Expedition 20 Breach

I suspect that they want two things:

– acquaint returning players with the entire ocean experience .

– get new players introduced to multiple aspects quickly

I believe it has :+1:

I’ve seen a few videos now from YouTubers new to the game giving their 50-100 hour glowing review and they hadn’t even gotten to or seemed aware of purple systems/Autophage yet.

I keep thinking their videos would have more impact knowing this knowledge but teasing it to the viewer to incentivise a purchase or play.

There being an entirely new layer of planetary proc gen gets lost in the sauce some times

I haven’t seen that in a long time but it did have some benefits for photo opportunities. Here I fell 1000u to the ground and the water disappeared leaving a bright sky in the background.

(edit: the picture just disappeared as well. ??)

(edit 2: I just noticed that you were talking about bases disappearing. I’ve never seen that, this post is about the water itself disappearing)

The comment about the nautilon was referencing things that they add to the expeditions that don’t serve any purpose other than to advertise a feature of the game. What did gathering sea glass have to do with finding corvette parts? They could have placed something relevant deep in the ocean that we needed the nautilon’s scanner to find. In recent memory the nautilon has been ever present but little more than a station break. I don’t think that it has helped engagement at all. The work that they put into the water system does warrant the exposure but this isn’t helping. Nowhere that I’ve seen where people are discussing the Breach expedition have I seen any mention of the beauty found below.

(Picture from an earlier session in the game.)

Same goes (almost) for their gun selection. What purpose did that serve? I can guess that it was to make shooting monstrosities more challenging, but I just used the bolt caster. I haven’t finished the expedition so maybe there is something else that we have to fight through where this makes sense. Although I think that showing the guns virtue makes more sense than its weakness.

:eyes: I have never experienced water disappearing…

As for the gun they give us, I have found the scatter blaster (shotgun) useful. But I also upgrade it and put it in a supercharged slot if I can. It makes running and gunning much easier as you do not need to be precise.

Shotgun is usually the standard weapon for fighting hordes in close quarters and on the run. Just about every game out there gives you that option under those circumstances.

Weird. it’s my favourite. Fully upgraded it’s a one-shot kill of just about anything at point-blank range, and point-blank range is the only range at which I had any chance to hit anything with the framerates I was getting during combat…

Has anyone found a way to access wrecked corvettes once the expedition is finished?

I don’t have plans for the debris rangefinder any more, and nobody in the anomaly can supply them.

Interesting observation - during the expedition, I built a few little bases so I could return to interesting areas.

Now the expedition is finished, I’m going back and deleting those bases - and I find that the space stations are no longer abandoned.

One of the bases I built marked a little valley with a sentinel pillar. On returning, not only was the sentinel pillar gone, so was the valley - the base computer was about 15 feet underground.

It seems that expeditions make pretty major changes to the systems we visit.

Now that I think about it, I didn’t see mention of it getting added anywhere in the patch notes.

Could be we’re beta testing this feature for a future update sometime early 2026 or it might be one of those little Christmas bonuses like bytebeat or the game awards ship

I brought all the Arcadia logs back with me, didn’t think to try bring a scrap searching beacon.

I wonder what happens if you do?

On further thought, the wreck that appeared was always the arcadia. If it is a feature to be added to the game, perhaps they what to have a few wreck variants that aren’t in place yet or a procedural wreck system for the main game version.

There’s been another unique expedition moment last year too with the time dilation. Something we thought might get added soon too but hasn’t.

Perhaps another beta test? Seemed a fun feature to have under specific game conditions. Perhaps there’s an update planned where these things are main features and we’re testing it out.

Has there been any other unique expedition mechanics that have yet to resurface?

Was this after the save converted to normal mode? Because expedition files have a lot of overrides for universe generation, and HG keep adding more almost every expedition. That’s probably why you’d notice changes taking place once the save goes from an expedition mode save to normal.

Edit: Side note, did anyone else notice HG silently shift the end date back to 6th Nov? There’s some weird date stuff going on over at HG, with the reduxes being pushed serverside for the 19th and Nintendo switch having this entire community mission be unlocked from the get-go. I have a sneaking suspicion we might get another small surprise in a few weeks? Hopefully (finally) some news on NS1 corvette support.

I brought a debris rangefinder back with me to my main save to play around with them a bit. Although we can’t conventionally craft them (yet?:crossed_fingers:), they can be replicated and do work in the main game for finding corvette salvage. Like the expedition, I found a black box from the wreck highlighted and floating around, but couldn’t interact with it.

I too am guessing this feature is being tested and needs a bit more time to cook before being fully rolled-out in the main game (at least, I hope so, because it’s a fun way to get ship parts). It’d be super cool if we could get more logs from these with lore like the terminals and beacons on crashed and derelict freighters.

Yes. It’s been a couple of days since I completed the expedition - it’s only now that I’m cleaning up, I’m noticing the changes.

I wonder if the random space encounter beacons have the crashed corvette as a chance appearance in its pool?

I do have a big ol stack of those I’ve been meaning to do nothing with…

As a reward for completing the expedition, the QS vendor gave me a small selection of Aeron corvette parts.

He did not, however, give me the plans for them - and they don’t appear in the trade section of the corvette parts terminal. As far as I can tell, the few I was given are the only ones I can have - there doesn’t seem to be any other source.

Something has to be incomplete…

You craft them in the same way you do the corvette weapon reward from the last Expedition. So long as you have the ingredients for them, they will be a selectable part from the corvette build part menu.

You need glass shards and something else, if you hover over the part in the build menu it will display the ingredients

I start Expeditions in a new save. Multi-player is not allowed and, early on, I turn off everything in the Network tab.

This is the first time that I haven’t seen numerous, extraneous icons surrounding the meet-up locations - especially from space there was on the one icon showing. That was very nice of HG.

I ran into a video on YouTube recently that was showing that the wrecked corvettes could be found outside the expedition by pulsing. I didn’t have time to watch the video but skipping through I saw that he found one using an anomaly detector, and another with “pulse fishing.” Like first wave exotics, this takes a lot of grinding. He was keying on “Rare Deep Space Object Detected” messages. I think his channel name was Pharaoh, but I am not finding it in my history (another rare search problem.)

I was terribly confused by this, so I put a little time into sorting it out. This is what I found:

If you don’t have a particular corvette part, you can’t make one. You can’t make them from plans like regular tech.

If you have a corvette part in your exosuit inventory, hovering your cursor over it will tell you the parts needed to make another one.

If you have a corvette part in your exosuit inventory, and you have the parts needed to make another one, hovering your cursor over it will bring up a menu allowing you to duplicate it.

It appears to be a bit like bank loans. If you have a good job, a steady income, and a healthy bank balance, you can have a bank loan. If you’re unemployed and in debt, you can’t have a bank loan. Bottom line is, you can only have a bank loan if you don’t need one.

You can only make corvette parts if you already have some.
