There was one like that found years ago, I wonder whether it’s always the same or whether there are many? (A generic reddit search Reddit - Dive into anything)
Good question, I don’t recall, I never had the impression of large clusters like that. Clusters would be interesting if they had any meaning for the game. I can’t think of a good example, but for instance in Minecraft, you know that certain resources can be found in certain biomes, so you keep track of it, “desert was this way, swamp was that way”. But in 3D, that’s quite confusing, unless it’s coded as a filter in the map.
I haven’t tried it yet but until the bug with claiming the Liquidator Mech rewards on your main save is patched, I was thinking you could package the mech pieces after building them and bring them back through to your main saves via the item transfer if it allows it.
Will also save you the resources of building them again when you finish up the expedition at the Nexus terminal.
I want to add to @MacForADay 's video. There is no way to not claim the new mech parts in the expedition. When I return to the QS shop it already shows the items available but greyed out like I have already claimed them. Maybe it does it when I click on the expedition phase icon…a real pain in the ass.
Reported it to zendesk.
I really do not have time to run this expedition again on another save file as I am leaving for a trip in a couple of days…booo…
If you haven’t finished the expedition yet you can package the liquidator mech parts up after building them and bring them back to your main save through the Nexus.
Unless you started a new save for the expedition Then I’ve no idea.
edit: Woo go save editor!
PSA: Walking around in Full Metal Mech will attract storms and result in immediate death by Thor.
I have (what feels like) half the expedition tasks complete already, and I haven’t reached the first dropzone yet. Am I missing anything? As in, I select the mission (I think Acceleration) and there no target on the star map for the expedition path. There’s a green line that doesn’t go anywhere. Nobody else seems to have that problem.
Hmmm. I have a suspicion. I did a quicksilver mission on the Nexus. When I completed that, did that not drop me back into the system where I was for the expedition?
Sounds like you may be correct. I had similar issues in previous expeditions when we had to go searching for a certain planet or system type. I would find myself unable to find the expedition route. Can you find the starting system at the space station teleporter? The top post has the system name.
Can you use a space station teleporter and simply return to the first system from your discoveries log? Hopefully the station has the same name as the system… or it should be the oldest on the list.
Alternatively can you access someone elses base via the teleporter? Many name their bases in a way you could identify its location.
lol … yup… I just went to the oldest space station and the expedition path immediately reappeared. I mean it could have said something… “Dude? Nada and Polo, like, dumped you at the New Jersy turnpike next to John Malkovich’s brain, you’re not gonna make it home on foot from here, jus’say’n?”
Someone posted a screenshot of how they swapped the expedition shuttle for a previous expedition reward ship. I could do that, but I installed all the hyperdrive updates, and I couldn’t “drag and drop” them over. Is that only during expeditions?
And similarly, I was in a space station and saw some nice yellow exotics. But half the ships there disappeared, they arrived and they left, but they weren’t landed. There were a lot of samey shuttles, some suspiciously expensive, and a lot of double parked ships that could not be interacted with or left immediately.
I assume that’s a not so subtle message to continue the expedition in the shuttle?
Well, during the expedition I found a crashed 42 slot hauler, which I repaired and fitted all three (cadmium, emeril, indium) drive upgrades to. I also found, claimed, and upgraded a sentinel ship.
I retired the ship the expedition originally gave me fairly early, and completed it in ships I found. I didn’t notice any particular problems.
I scrapped the shuttle just as soon as I saved up 1400 nanites for the sentinel ship from a previous expedition.
While I had both, I ‘X’ all the ship’s tech that I could. Only left four or five things that I couldn’t Store. Transported them to the new ship and installed them. Moved things around and then scrapped the shuttle.
Yup, restoring crashed ships of course still works! That’s a proper source of an upgrade. The one I found even had better stats than the starter, too! I wanted to swap the new ship the lazy way, without repairing its inventory, while using the starter shuttle as storage.
By drag and drop, I meant the X action, yes. I was hoping to do the X action quickly on the fly in the “buy/add to fleet screen”, as usual, I had a terminally full inventory and couldn’t pre-store the tech…
Planning 4/5 , Execution 1/5 , Laziness: 5/5 …!
My main question is, buyable ships appearing and disappearing is just a “standard” multiplayer bug now? Does ship buying officially work during expeditions? Can you guys buy (and, even see) every ship type at a space station?
Yes. (PS5 Multiplayer on)
I was at one of those big ‘newer’ archive type trading posts…not a space station.
I spent a lot of time in the first system, wandering & collecting anything & everything of value.
I particularly disliked my hauler and as soon as I had the cash, I traded over to a random little C class fighter.
I did stumble over a few wrecks (3 I think) & patched them up, scrapped them & used the proceeds to beef up my little fighter further.
Well I’m glad you crawled your way back to the Vanguard Path so you can continue to work on your puppetry
I held on to my scrappy hauler the whole time, never even upgraded it. Last few I brought my main save ship/multitool over but decided to keep it Au Naturale on this expedition. Going back to my main save with the Starborn Runner was a bit of a shock, could feel the G force. I actually brought the Hauler back to my main save for nostalgia purposes, its nothing special and will get replace but for now the Blue Star Liquidator stays.
I feel like I just saw my soul refined to three easy to remember stats.
Ooof. I finally did the last task, fight four walkers. Not that it would be hard (with all the upgrades and the minotaur we got), it’s just a bit repetitive and not my favourite type of expedition task.
Usually I avoid any battles, but this time when I needed several, the reinforcements (or bio/deep sea horrors) sometimes couldn’t find me… or were stuck underground… or whatever glitch.
Is an expedition some sort of tutorial, I wonder? The game now has so many features that it’s hard to remember them all. So maybe HG want to help us remember all the game mechanics, and make practicing them expedition missions…?
Honestly, I think a large part of what they’re doing is experimentation. They’re learning how to do things, and gauging how they are received by an audience. Yes, they dress it up, and make it attractive - you have to keep your lab rats fed, watered, and happy - and I’m sure they value the loyalty of their player base, but ultimately we are a commercial resource.
Sean Murray likes to foster his image as a whimsical, slightly dippy-hippy character - when he’s actually obsessively hard-working, very hard-nosed, and extremely analytical. I don’t believe he ever does anything on impulse. Everything is calculated, and working towards a goal.
