Difficult Sentinels

Is there an easier way to defeat the four series of sentinel destruction and what would be the best multi tool to use

I’ve found a heavily ‘S’ modded Pulse Splitter combined with the Plasma Launcher my current preference.
Good personal shielding on your suit too.

Take out the repair drones ASAP & keep moving sideways & always reload at every opportunity.
Use foxholes & terrain for cover & keep backing up to avoid getting flanked.
When the Quads show up, sledge them with the Plasma Launcher.

On the big Walkers you need to take out the leg armour before the main body.
The paralysis mortar is somewhat useful on the Walkers too.

Notes: The little drones also summon back up so getting rid of them first gains you time.

Any drone can fix another so shift fire to the ‘repairer’ if neccessary then return to the first target.

I notice that during the current expedition, there seem to be different difficulty and weapon stats applied.

I found that during the expedition, by far the best weapon against sentinels of all kinds was the minotaur cannon. It does enormous damage, has rapid fire, huge ammunition store between reloads, wide area of effect, and unlimited range. You can stand 50 metres back and spam rapid fire into a group of sentinels, and destroy all of them.

However, I don’t recall the thing being nearly so effective outside the expedition. Maybe something has changed?

I prefer the neutron cannon. A well upgraded neutron cannon can eliminate each flying sentinel in one shot, the quads in 2-3, and you just have to work on the walkers. The corrupted flyers are harder, 2-3 shots. Small spiders are easy, you can often get two at a time. And 2-3 well placed shots will take out the large spiders. For the upgrades, try to find ones with more damage. The speed metric will boost your overall weapon’s stats, but that is only useful if you have the opportunity to shoot fast. S-Class upgrades will give a damage boost of 10-14%, I forget what that comes out to if you have available supercharged slots. Mine now has a potential of 30,000ish. I have had it higher.

If you can pick the location, I like the minor settlements the most. The railing around the landing pad can block the quads laser, and you don’t have to worry about all the pot holes from their grenades. Also having two doors to hide through is useful in emergencies. High ground is useful. Atop the sentinel pillar is a good spot. Korvax buildings have a built in shield to help keep drones from seeking in from behind. A steep hill works but can interrupt your weapon charging. Caves used to be good, but these days the drones will come in with you, sometimes falling through the ceiling. Sometimes they attack, other times they don’t, I haven’t taken the time to figure out what triggers them so I just stay out of caves for now.

For strategy, I take out the summoners first, maintenance drones second, then work on the real threats. Summoners will bring in more maintenance drones. The laser on the quad is relentless, having something to hide behind if it gets the upper hand is essential. Unless you are going for counts, then on one of the first two waves leave a summoner, You can easily get 150-200 drones before getting bored.

A cloaking device is useful for emergencies. It can give you time to breathe. The paralysis mortar is also useful with the walkers to stop them from prancing around.

And as @Polyphemus mentioned, the Minotaur is better than it used to be. I just let it do its thing by itself, It seems to take less damage if I am not in it. I didn’t use it for taking on the large walkers because I wasn’t where the credit would go.

Changed the category.
My strategy is similar to all above but if you know you are going to fight the sentinels, you can also claim and build a quick, small base. Just a small room with a few arched openings will do. The only sentinel that will fire directly into the building with success are the dogs, so make sure you have a spot to duck into out of its line of sight.
Plasma blaster is a must. Take out the chicken walker’s legs first. And if you have an AI controlled mech, it is worth beefing it up and turning it loose on the battlefield.

Welcome back, glad to hear you’re still out there exploring.

Great advice from everyone, I use the neutron cannon in my main playthrough but have found the scatter blaster weapon the current expedition is pretty beefy when you apply the upgrades awarded, enough to take walkers out in a few shots.

Another helpful tip is the barrels or cannisters a sentinel drops, depending on enemy difficulty determines the amount of shield recharged when you pick one up. You can also shoot them if they’re too far from you.

Shooting their loot drops for a shield rechargw has saved me in a pinch countless times

In Expedition 14, I found that the AI mech would take some damage and I’d have to fix it. When I operated the mech, I could engage from a distance and just had to refuel between waves.

Yes. I believe sentinel waves have been made much easier for the expedition due to the fact we need to slay stacks of them to reach all the goals.

As an advertisement for the Neutron Canon I ran down to a planet and ran through one group of sentinels. I’m not that good at aiming with a controller (VR is much easier) but this should show its power. The whole fight took just over 5 minutes.

That last upgrade increased the damage to 44K. This is the starter tool for the expedition with a better weapon.

EDIT: I was standing on a hill just over a cave opening to control where the sentinels could come from.

Paralysis mortar and maxed out scatter blaster works for me. Lots of shields always help.

Wait. When you say “Summoner”… you all mean Wi-Fi Face, right? :smirk:

Yes. Take it out fast or the wave will never end. It just keeps calling for backup

Ooooo. I’d sure like an animated portal “ring” mimicing the above one.

Anyone game to create one?

I kinda want that now too. With a Summoner where Bill is

I’ll see what happens when my laziness subsides. I think I still remember how to use the layer to gif frames function on Photoshop… if that’s even still a thing? I used to make Halo:CE animations with it back in the day :innocent:
