Datamining (Maximum Spoilers)

I’ve heard of new icons relating to portals being found in the files, has anyone else come across these and can you share images?

The icons look like menu icons when you “pause” the game. Some are speculating that it might be for a future expedition which is likely since most of their new content is put into expeditions.

My guess: I think “portal stories” is probably a new log to keep track of portal lore. And the other icons are telling me that portals may be getting a rework/portal update.

This. StoriesTable looks to be a collection of all of the lore interactions (Monoliths, Boundary Failures etc), but looks a lil unfinished? I’m not sure if it’s even used rn. If these Portal “Stories” are anything to go along, I’d guess they’re making some changes to how lore and the story works?

Looks like Procedural Traveller tweeted the new icons. They seem to relate to building our own portals, which would be very sweet, to have our own portal to travel to any planet we have the address for from our base instead of needing to find a portal.

They were in the icons achieve i released on Endurance Release date. ^^ up there somewhere.
They are mission style / build menu style icons. They could just be navigation markers for future missions, like Repair Portal, charge portal. go to specific portal.

My guess:
A. They are revamping Missions, to somekind of grouping (stories) to help keep code clean.
B. Custom player driven missions with all the different missions types. They are separated at root by Factions (Robots, Atlas, Explorers)
C. Something testing for more complex missions story telling???

The Models etc are all still there, and I believe there was changes made to them. MODELS\PLANETS\BIOMES\COMMON\BUILDINGS\PARTS\BUILDABLEPARTS\FREIGHTERBASE\ELEVATOR\F\ELEVATOR_F_PLACEMENT.GEOMETRY.MBIN.PC

There is all the grav lift references. As much as I love the idea of the elevators, Honestly don’t think there is a need on freighters…bases…ohhhhh yes. The rocket locker also got partially updates a shuttle, so I think it is meant to be a shuttle craft that you call in, lands and send cargo up. I could see this being cool if they planet environments that disable teleporter etc.

Yea… Didn’t mean the models themselves were cut, just that designers couldn’t fit them on as development on Endurance came to a close.

Yea I have a video showing off the shuttle here iirc, not sure if the first iteration was some crazy early logic test, or if they actually wanted to go ahead with this till the end of development till they decided not to finish it.

Endurance very much seems rushed. I think they are under a lot of pressure with all these new platforms. Getting ready for switch especially where they have a public date. Find it odd they are not marketing it more.

It work be neato keen (dates me) if the portal items relate to fixing ones broken … in abandoned systems?

I’m not so thrilled at being able to construct or own portals. No portals appear to relate to Travelers.

base teleporters way overpower portals anyway. Other than coordinates for jumping to specific planets without bases…not use full. So allowing to build them in systems without portals, and allow to store coordinates to input like stargates…that would be cool.

Think we are long over due for storing portal coordinates, food recipes, product recipes and lore within game.

Oh yeah! Pet peeves of mine. Lore accumulation, portal coordinate storage, and a personal Journal have been on my wish list for quite a while.

I use the NMS Assistant app for recipes.

I feel another NMS Feedback submission coming on… :grin:

Building on portals, maybe allow potential intergalactic travel? It shouldn’t be terribly difficult, as Portal Codes just need a buffer and Reality Index to become UAs and allow intergalactic teleportation

I was messging a couple people about PortalPage as it seems to reference the 4 icons, they sent me back an image which matches whats in the file…traced it back to reddit…

I have no idea how they rendered it:

Huh… we might be misinterpreting the term “portal” in the wrong context here. “UI_PORTAL” could mean a new central navigation page in the UI. Clearly, what we have here is a mockup for a new UI page that delivers a quick overview over milestones and provides quick access to various categories of the catalogue.

What is exciting is that there finally seems to be a catalogue planned for all the story bits we collect. That feature is soooo long overdue.

So that triggers when using a portal? Sounds like an interaction switch but, I don’t think there was a new interaction added? I’ll have to look in the puzzle table again.

Ahh that’s in debug isn’t it, the unlock all stories? I didn’t try that one yet, haven’t gotten to actual testing in game recently :sweat_smile:
