I know it’s been a while since I was here last, but this place has really gone downhill…
So my B class settlement looks pretty rusty. I would be interested in seeing one that is C class…please share any pics anyone may have.
Upgrading my office to A class…but each building has to be upgraded individually
Edit: metal parts are rusty no matter the class…
I had just started a new settlement with the worlds part two update so I’m looking forward to finishing that off and questing for new ones.
Had I just waited a little longer I could’ve kept my original settlement, same one I had on ps4 since introduced. Oh well
All that rust has me thinking. Remember when all build items had a rusty metal option? Some of the older items still have this feature, some of the newer items boast material selection, but it changes nothing.
I’m seeing our modern metal base parts here, with an added layer of rust.
I think material selection will finally be activated for newer base parts when we get that big base build camera update
I won’t spoil the upgrade fun…the following picture is NOT an upgrade
SPOILER
The Matrix
It looks like I’m going to have more problems. I played a couple of settlements when they first released, and decided I really didn’t like them. I haven’t had one since, and that was maybe 10 or 15 restarts ago.
Now the Autophage have some appeal - But settlers? Ick. I really don’t want to get involved in that stuff again. They’re helpless, pointless, hopeless, and needy.
Perhaps if there were a mode where I could exterminate settlements?
I love love love building inside my settlement…I hope they have fixed them in place so they no longer rotate in an update.
My current one seems unmoved…
And the appeal for an autophage settlement is the looks…and the robot parts…
These are funny
There is a lot of partying in the settlements these days
People of short stature should bring a booster seat to the hot tub
Sitting in it may not have been a good idea
You’re welcome to drop by and shoot my guys, might stop them perpetually walking into walls if they’re suddenly onset by a disgruntled liverpudlian
Thats the first thing I’ll be checking when I finally get to play the Beacon update. See if they’ve done any work on the NPC Settlers Pathfinding.
Downloading now on PS5… Just gotta pull myself away from Dwarf Fortress somehow -_-
offtopicDFrambling
Very invested in my fort right now, breeding dragons now after many dwarves lost to the cause. In a few hundred years their ancestors will be able to use them as their personal guard dogs when they reach maturity '
Not sure how long they’ve been up, have been veruy preocuppied this update day, but here are the fawncy patch notes
Travellers who have encountered the Autophage can join these settlements as Overseer, and those who have earned their trust may receive a special invitation…
I knew those Autophage were throwing weird Eyes Wide Shut style depravity parties but I didn’t think we’d ever get invited to observe one ;0;
Clarification on the Special Invitation
- Players who have completed They Who Returned may receive an invitation at their settlement to visit an Autophage settlement.
It seems this isn’t an invitation you get after establishing an autophage settlement but rather an invitation you get at any settlement, to direct you to these rare hard to find settlements (autophage settlements can appear on any planet), once you have finished their main quest line. Finding another one after this might prove tricky. There are also new settlement charts for locating autophage settlements, which can be purchased with motes from autophage terminals.
For information:
I didn’t have a settlement - haven’t had one for years - and I am only too aware of the difficulties involved in allowing the game to choose - 10 to 1 it will place you on some radioactive hell where the weather strips the flesh from your bones on 7 seconds, and the terrain is all vertical.
So I bought a settlement map, found a reasonable planet, opened the map, and found a settlement. When I arrived there, “The Settlers” quest started. So far, so good.
Except the first thing the quest requires you to do is talk to the settlers. Until you do that, you can’t progress any further. Trouble was, there weren’t any settlers. There were buildings, and there was a marker telling me where a settler was supposed to be (I could tell because it said “settler” - education is a fine thing), but there were no settlers.
I tried leaving the planet, and coming back - no change. I tried teleporting out of the system and coming back - no change.
I thought of maybe restarting the quest - and it turns out you can’t - it doesn’t have a restart option.
Then I saved the game, shut down No Man’s Sky, shut down my computer, and restarted everything.
Lo and behold, I now have settlers. I have spoken to them, I have fought sentinels, and I am now overseer.
So if you have a similar problem, that’s what worked for me.
Until I reached the end I was wondering if maybe it was an autophage settlement and you just hadn’t done a scan to make them visible XD Glad to know this bug is easily fixed <3
FML I really should just read the patch notes before I say anything XD
Adopt a rustic aesthetic for your bases with new sets of weathered and rusted surfaces . Applicable to all existing timber , stone , and alloy structural components - as well as the new salvaged components.
Also we can change Telemons voice now. ;0; They can be teleManly now They can also be muted ;0; We can now be like that Traveller who ripped their suits speaker box out.
We also have voice options for our Travellers now
Player vocalisations - such as breathing or exertions when running - can now be customised to several different voice types , varying in pitch and character .
Also it seems like they finally figured out how to have players effect the economy without it leading to griefing etc.
Originally, before launch, this was thrown around as maybe players destroying space stations, and theres been hints in updates now and then that they were going to bring it into the fold some how one day (everyone got very excited when those space station overrides showed up).
It seems this now comes in the form of settlements, your settlement will boost the local economy within the star system across the board as it grows and enhances So there is no way to impact an economy negatively, which was always the gateway for griefiing that most likely kept the feature at bay, and it only boosts it. Good compromise I think
@Polyphemus it seems they also made the sentinel attacks on setllements less regular so they may be less annoying to you, but they also added a lot of new ways for them to bother you, so it might just be exactly where it was Our squadrons helping us is nice, I hope this feature is extended to planetary pirate raids, I’d like to not have to stop what I’m doing and jump into my starship every time they show up. Let the lads take care of em.
Damn. That means I’ll have to get a squadron now. Another thing I haven’t bothered with.
Worry, worry, worry.
Good stuff to know when recruiting pilots.
The pilots class can be upgraded for nanites, but their ship class cannot. So focus on recruiting pilots of s-class ships that also have pilot stats you like, its relatively cheap to upgrade the pilot themselves from c-class to s-class, especially for those of us sitting on mountains of nanites.
I’m not sure waht all the pilot stats corelate to but I just chose mine based off colour using this guide on nomansskyresources
The Captains have randomly generated traits in 4 randomly generated categories; such as Empathy, Respect for Command, Flight Ability, Starship Management, Navigation, Dedication, etc. These ranges are listed in order below:
(Gold) Unrivaled, Outstanding,
(Green) Excellent, Good, Above Average,
(White) Average, Below Average, Poor
(Red) Abysmal, Non-existent
theres also the usual hard to make any sense of infographic that accompanies all things in usesupallmypcsnomansskyresources that absolutely hates anyone trying to ever share it anywhere, ever, so heres a link (reading glasses not included)
Okay I am already loving the new functionality of settlements.
I can set these things to manufacture stuff I genuinely need and bleed through and upgrading them gives you access to better produce (e.g having an s-class star port will allow you to produce fuel for your firgate fleets missions!).
This is extremely helpful, Frigate Fuel is about the only reason I ever run out of carbon and tritium now, or base building is why I always need more !!16!!GL455!!16!! ; which my settlement is now happily producing. This will save me a few trips around the frost crystal farm/silicate powder cooking methods.
I just got a planetary pirate raid on my settlement while idle and typing this in excitement XD
I really hope this is one of those “Squadron showing up” incidents and not just a “random planetary poi counter tick” pirate attack that isn’t tied to the settlement system runs for cover
edit: Yup, they showed up without me having to get in my own starship and started taking out the pirates.
An Explorer Class even did a wrestling toss (WWF/E fans can give us the technical term) and threw a pirate starship over the top ropes with its biddy liddle arms!
Here’s what an invitation to a dissonant settlement will look like when it comes through at one of your existing settlements
We just made identical posts XD Kinda (mines in the base building thread) A lot of love for these new water towers, I was so in love with the staircase I didn’t even check to see if it had a function. Oh wow!
Settlement expeditions are really good now.
It used to be, they would go away on one and if you didn’t see the message about their return in the bottom left, you would never know how their expedition even went, or what it was even for.
Settlers on expeditions will now present themselves at your terminal for a debrief WITH new options relating to the purpose and result of their expedition.
fun fun fluffy immersive fun. My guys feel like guys.
I was hoping NMS would ween me off my Dwarf Fortress addiction but it seems that they added more Dwarf Fortress to my No Mans Sky (our settlers have personalities and jobs now and you dont have direct control over their movements) so I’ve just swapped nicotine for crack.
edit:
and omg they celebrated a succsefful expedition with a fireworks party <3
also buildings now wait for you to do a grand unveiling before completing their final stage.
I’m starting to feel really bad for NMS Switch players who aren’t getting a Switch 2 any time soon </3
This update would contain nothing for them right? Just a big ol nothing? Maybe those new base parts?
I hate the Autophage settlement I was directed to. Aggressive sentinels…how hard is it to find a new Autophage settlement?
