Anniversary Update Speculation(with spoilers)

As jedida said, it‘s used in computing and HG use it for their procedural generation. Imagine you want to encode the description of a planet in the minimum amount of data. For so many planets and moons, don’t want a whole database.
So you can imagine a number, the first digit describes the size, the second the biome, the third the weather, the fourth and fifth the number of flora and fauna… and so on. So planet 96427 is different from 73501 but similar to 96536.
In base 10, you could store 10 such pieces of info in each digit of a number. But computers prefer base 2, 4, 8, 16, … (cpus can calculate these faster), so using hexadecimals digits (base 16) to store procedural info would come natural to a programmer.
And you see those hexadecimal digits used e.g. on the signal booster, they are numbers from 0 to 9 plus letters from A to F.

So basically when characters in the story hear 16…16… it’s them realising that they have been procedurally generated…

So basically someone decided it was a good idea to post that tweet to draw parallels with Dreamers? Troll, or indirectly asking for another ARG. I was truly Hyped for a moment.

It gave me more of the impression of a reminder. “Hey, look, here’s what emily said, there’s some terminology that we see resurging at the moment”. I don’t think there was much of an agenda behind it.

The mistake was merely to post this without context and just assuming that everybody who was part of waking titan would recognise the video, and anybody else not being interested in it or asking about it.

Well, I believe there are many who want another ARG to happen… imagine the eyes who see that tweet and know nothing about this forum? Imagine the damage this tweet could be causing unsuspecting players… Imagine if someone uses this to get ignorant players to do things they otherwise would not? Like really.
On PS4, there were some shady people asking players for real names a while back… tweets like this need to be more clear.

You mean like the “we must crack the puzzle to unlock the real ending”-craze a couple months after launch? Nothing new. Nobody got hurt, I think.

Ok, that’s bad, but I don’t see a connection here. I imagine stuff like that happens in any MP game (I don’t play any, so I wouldn’t know). And Sean himelf is the god-emperor of unclear tweets, so I’d expect NMS players that actually read tweets about the game to be somewhat on their toes, to be honest.

I’m not saying the Tweet is great, or even noteworthy, I just think you’re working yourself up a bit much about it. Just chill, if anything actually interesting starts happening, you’ll find out soon enough.

Ah yes. I had forgotten about all of this. Thanks for the reminder.

Just stick to tweets currently from SM. I try to always post the latest here. Especially if it seems relevant to an update…which is hard to say sometimes as @jedidia points out. But of course, that is what makes his tweets so much fun. That is our cue to start speculating and reading between the lines. Hopefully, we will see something soon!
Oops! I was replying to @JubiTheVille not @jedidia. :upside_down_face:

Yes.

Maybe. I really want some kind of arg to come back, and when I saw that tweet… into the rabbit hole i went.

I liked the ARGs, but Hello Games had to pay for that plus use their own developers’ time. They may have decided it wasn’t economical and would rather work on updates and post teaser tweets as updates draw close.

Yes. And the ARG was really a way to round up the players and bring them together for the huge changes to come. It really broadened the NMS community and brought us together.

It probably is a title, but the most odd of titles that we have. And its the last one in the list. Perhaps it is a title and also HG giving us a hint knowing that we dig through code to find things. I mean, all the other titles are adjectives to a noun(your player name), but this one isnt an adjective, its an actual sentence.(forgive me if im wrong here)

Also, the description is interesting. Spitting out random theorys here… To those who read the last weekend mission dialog(the mission that we’ll be doing to unlock the titles) and completed the main game story too, the description of the item fits weirdly into the current game.

The description says “Contemplating the deterministic nature of existence.”
A “Deterministic nature” is something that is pre-destined, pre-planned, as if the future, a path or a process is already set. So this description is implying that our actions in-game and everything in it is pre determined or created rather than by chance?

Or maybe its refering to Procedural generation. It is said that it is different than being “random generation”, which isn’t deterministic. So maybe its refering to a new generated universe and/or story?

And then the the title is odd too. Every ONE procedural. “One” what? NPCs, player characters, missions, planets, galaxies, universes?

It also doesn’t seem to have anything to do with the weekend mission story too… The “Dreamer” title and description doesnt have to do with any in game story or lore that I can remember either, unless I missed something. It seems more related to the ARG but if it isn’t, I wonder if it also has something to do with the future update and/or story?

hmm…

Let’s not forget it’s also close to the first marketing slogan of NMS (Everything procedural). The first thing that came to my mind when seeing it was that first trailer.

Don’t forget that we are playing in a simulation being run by the Atlas as it tries to re-create the creator and attempts to see its own end. As part of the lore, the Traveller desires to see all 18 quintillion possibilities but knows they never can. So exploring is the heart and soul of NMS. It is the reason for our existence both in the game and in the Atlas created simulation as it tries to find its creator. (My personal thoughts…the one who stands with the Atlas at the end, when it is no longer alone and the simulation ends, is none other than SM himself standing with his creation at the end of all support for NMS. A sad but proud moment)
It has been fun to see how HG uses the lore to explain things like ‘universal reset’
The title that intrigues me the most is Iteration 1. Was this title created for those who have never died in the game? Is there anyone who has never died? Could it be proven?
Or is this title for those who have been playing NMS from the very beginning?

At one point, @DevilinPixy pulled all of the lore from the source files and posted it for us. That was v 1.3 or so. It would really be nice to have it all pulled again. The core story remains the same, I think. Remembrance was recently broken for me but seems to now be fixed. The remebrance lore is very important. If any players have not opened it, I highly recommend it.

Here is today’s random RT from SM

Why, what did Sean tweet? That second tweet is from some guy (presumably a streamer?), don’t quite see the connection. And what’s “RT” mean?

I believe “iteration 1” is for those that have save files from v 1.0 or something. Cant remember.

Also, regarding the remembrance lore, atleast the way I understood it, I dont think the simulation is pre-destined though. Its creating the possibilities on the fly each time. Unless its refering to the same end result each time? But it doesn’t sound likely.

Re Tweet and yeah, I don’t see the connection either. Guy is gonna finish his Living Ship quest.
HOWEVER, aren’t the mechanical beasts in Zero Dawn kinda like sentinels?..a connection? I don’t know.

After watching @MacForADay 's video on the new Nexus mission, where you fight corrupted sentinels, I am hoping for more corrupted sentinel like creatures…I just hope it is not my Living Ship that turns out to be one…
