Wish Upon a Star

The game still lacks a text chat :speech_balloon: feature for console versions. (I’m still on Steam, but others request.)

I still wish for a dedicated ‘walk: slow’ option, :person_walking: perhaps custom assignable keys on ‘PC: keyboard.’

Otherwise, a light touch on a console joystick is the solution. But it’s just far too light for my liking. I don’t always want to ‘run: fast’ and ‘run: faster.’ :person_running: And neither do I want a light touch required to ‘walk: slow.’

We have these beds. :bed: I’d like to sleep in them. :person_in_bed: Ability and need to sleep  and drink water. :cup_with_straw: :clinking_beer_mugs:

I think some longer missions would be nice, and more missions involving starships.

Example:

  1. “Save a planet that’s been taken over by hostile forces. Hostile forces remaining: 100-1000.” :small_airplane:
  2. “Save the Citizens: Relocate as many citizens as you can before some cataclysm occurs. Planet about to explode? etc. Go around picking up as many NPCs across the planet as you can, in your custom Corvette starship. Bigger starships fit more citizens, at once.” :people_hugging:
  3. Fly around and parachute airdrop packages to their destinations. Etc. :package:
  4. Shoot the space whale. :whale: Harvest its meat. Requires a team of Corvettes.
  5. (Note: Requires adding a space whale, not just whalelike living ships. Hint! Hint! Hint!)
  6. Hunt super colossal titan space worms. :worm: After a certain number of shots, which collectively add up per planet over multiple play sessions, harvest a bounty of special rare meat and other resources. (Idea: Shortly before its death, the titan worm tries to eat the player. On the player’s 1st experience or all experiences, HUD warns the player: “Escape Being Eaten by the Titan Worm!”)

Even longer missions:

Add a ‘procedural expedition system,’ :compass: which randomly generates expeditions to feel much like the pre-made expeditions we now have. Only, these feature a combination of the smaller missions we now have, and the longer missions as described above. This would provide expeditions ongoing, covering the downtime between the special hand-made expeditions by HG.

I also think all the ‘manufacturing plant’ :factory: building types could use a complete redesign and rebuild, to make them much larger and much more interesting. Or, these could be added in addition to smaller.

Added Corvette starships with live-in walk-around interiors:

Up next: Add a voyage to the sun to harvest its special energies, :sun: and a voyage to some long distance planet (maybe multi-biome, Hint!), :globe_showing_americas: all requiring long distance flights, requiring 30 mins to 1+ hour flights. Reasons for live-in walk-around interiors. As discussed in: What More Can We Do With Space?

Is this the new wishes thread? Oh hi there!

I would like corvette landing spheres at prime locations such as these

I was looking at the original game trailer. In the first part you see 3 ships fly overhead. We have ships that fly overhead but the ships in the trailer look like what became the sentinel ships.

I would like to see sentinel ships patrolling. Only on aggressive sentinel planets though.

I think it would add an element of danger instead of them only appearing when you get into your ship.

It would also be nice if they were scanning the surface the way we do when looking for POI. And maybe we could deflect those scans with the device we use to avoid detection in space except with one mounted into our backpack

I love this idea! Could even be done similar to how Pirates can attack any POI if you loiter there too long and gain the wraith of the RNG; an aggressive sentinel planet should send in the Sentinels. Mix it up a bit. Maybe some land forces arrive to attack the POI with the air forces too.

We should be able to use the Grav gun to rip these doors off of the crashed Freighters

Better landing animations

Right now, we just sort of… belly flop onto the planet with rigid landing gear.

Imagine your landing gear coming in contact with the ground establishing a firm support while your ship slowly descends in a slow cushioned shock absorption.

Orbital mechanics

I’ve wanted this since No Man’s Sky was announced. I really hoped we’d be able to see the planets rotating if we sit in place, or to be able to watch a celestial body pass by overhead as it continues its orbital trajectory.

The rumor is that this existed once, but play testers became confused with their orientation. We have new systems in place now that would mitigate these kinds of problems, so I think it’s doable if it doesn’t tax the engine too hard.

Space bases

Now that we can space walk, imagine plopping a specialized microgravity base computer down on an asteroid or out in deep space where you can begin building with an entire new set of space-centric base building parts.

Yeah, a better ability to manage markers would maybe solve the orientation problem?

Humans have the tendency to think in Earthlike stationary terms, “I built my farm under the space station”, “I parked the freighter next to the asteroid field”, or “I built my base with a view of the neighbouring planets.” If the planets slowly orbit, we would keep ringing up Sean, “Dude where’s my car??” :squinting_face_with_tongue:

(I swear in the current expedition, there is a Phish space station in a Phish system that was discovered by someone named Phish. For a moment I thought they had added private station building, sigh…)

What do you do in a space station, and what special parts would they offer?

  • Exocraft sales, rentals, & teleportation
  • Scanner telescope that lets us scan visible planets, and preview local base screenshots
  • Bargain cargo bin! Donate 1 stack, and then optionally take from 1 stack (because one person’s silicate trash is the other’s glass treasure!)
  • Food court sausage machine! Donate 1 ingredient stack, then optionally take from 1 processed food stack. If several donations together make a recipe, the processed items automatically become one of the options to take as well.
  • Telegraph post office that shows the last 5 planetary comm ball messages scrolling
  • Similarly, a pet store that shows holograms of the recently adopted local pets, and previews of some unadopted ones (like multitools sold on stations are previews of multitools on planets)
  • A news room that shows who killed the local pirates

Things that get better the more cooperative players are. What more can you think of?
