To be clear, taking a screenshot with the mouse button (or whatever you change the keybinding to) is the only one that works for NMS photo quests.
F12 does not fulfill the quest parameters.
Using key bindings to switch in and out of 3rd person.

Yes, it can be reassigned, but as soon as you do, it will always be red, no matter what you assign it to. It will only ever NOT be red if you return it to default and not assign anything manually to ‘Take Photo’.

On my PC (1920x1080) and with default FOV, photo mode does show glyphs until I press the left Shift key or wait a few seconds (shuts off by timer, it seems).

Ah ok thanks that makes sense
I still can’t take a photo, it makes a stuttering sound but no photo is taken. Now I’m using f12 but would rather use the photo option properly

The stuttering is what I experience when using the A button on my controller (in addition to cropping) It would be nice if it was fixed. I think I reported it ages ago.
