Hm. Looks very Starfieldish. I forgot to give it a colour, or the colour didn’t stick? Oh well. Also it’s name is sometimes the new one and sometimes the old one. Very low jump range. Haven’t tried to install a purple upgrade yet… has to wait till tomorrow.
Some of the module pieces will add to jump range, and if rearranged in the tech slots next to warp drive, they also add adjacency bonus.
This also applies to things like shields, thrusters, landing gear, the module description will indicate which of these systems it’s tied to.
Habitats add more cargo space too.
If you land or summon your corvette at a space station you can go back in and edit it, this should allow you to alter the colours.
When you go inside the corvette you get a new base building menu, some of the modules that attach to walls will allow you to recolour the interior also without effecting the exterior colour.
At the moment I can’t seem to move around tech on the Corvette that is commonplace in starships, e.g I can’t move the launch thrusters or the warp drive, but I can move the corvette modules tech squares around them for the adjacency bonus.
I haven’t tried crafting new tech like upgrade hyperdrive so not sure if this will have same issue as the other immoveable tech
I have not yet been able to hop in and try this out cor myself but, can we edit the ship after building it? Or am I stuck with what I locked-in and have to create a new one?
I was concerned about this too but you can edit re-edit & save-as-you-go, although you need to menu hop a little to re-use parts you just removed (PS5). You can even use the ship while editing as it saves your new layout, letting you come back to it later on.
I started with a rudimentary basic arangement & have since created a Y shaped thing with lots of wings & engines plus all my storage vault access panels.
One glitch is: I can’t install 2 loading ramps (as one will stay permanently open). Hopefully they fix that for the mildly OCD among us who particularly want symetrical set ups.
I found that it’s possible to get a good trade on unwanted parts with as little as 16% likelyhood, which made life simpler getting the last few matching bits.
Actually one of my favourite updates even if it requires a little bit of glitch-polishing.
I started on my second corvette (I was going to redesign the first but I decided to keep the monstrosity for posterity)
This was when I realised, the modules you place inside change their appearance depending on the type of Hab module you put them in. I would’ve been fine with a one module fits all habs situation but this is fantastic variety <3
I took pics last night of a refiner module in three different modes. Will upload once I’m back on console.
Now, I wonder how long before they cave and give us the “expand variants” options for these so we can have thunderbird modules inside out ambassador habs.
I really like the chess table in the Thunderbird nutrient module and want it in my ambassadors hab
The ambassador habs nutrient module does build a nice lil kitchenette though
I went for an asymetrical approach with my second corvette, still tinkering with it but this is its current form
I notice you can now call any of your collected starships from within the space station. Time was when you could only do this on a planet surface. Not sure when this became a thing, but you can do it now.
So, for instance, if you’re working on your corvette in the space station, but you don’t want to fly it, you can call one of your regular ships, and fly that instead. Very handy.
I would like a nice picture catalog of the different parts in their different styles.
It is kinda hard to see it when building unless you finalize your build and walk inside. I don’t always want to finalize it. I just want to see what it looks like.
I’ve now tried digging up scrap in 7 different systems. All systems seem to have more or less the same parts - but some parts seem much more likely to be found than others (like the are some parts I’ve found 10 of, and others where I’ve only found one).
I suspect - but it’s hard to be certain, because it’s only a probability - that weaalthier systems may have a greater chance of multiple finds in a single hole.
I haven’t found any holy grail of planets that yields the best stuff.
Okay perfect. I didnt want to build some abomination and then get stuck with it.
I have to admit that this is probably up there with i e of my favorite updates from HG. I love tinkering with cars and electronics in real life so this scratches that itch I get in videogames too.
Excited to try it out as soon as I get the chance.
Do keep in mind though, that the initial ‘creation’ and claim, is what provides additional technology, depending on that creation. Altering your ship after, is not going to change this again. So it may be wise to go all out, and then scale down in adjustments after if you wish? Still a lot to learn (and get fixed) I feel.
haven’t much time to play with this, but in love with the idea of this. When starfield came out I wished we could have something similar, this…blows it out of the park.
I dug up a ton of parts and have swapped around and played. I wish the menu was organized a bit better into themes, since there appears to be 3 right now.
Had parts disappearing when remove from ships. Not showing up in the inventory or reclaim section, so not sure there.
Overall loving it, and the expansion possibilities of this are just epic……Just hope someday we get more utility objects not just decor.
First corvette created. It’s boxy, but it’s mine! Really enjoying this update. I think @sheralmyst said it above… being able to walk on and off your ship feels really good.
But where do I “cash” corvette missions in? I took one to catch x fish, because I was landed next to water. The mission counter completely ignored anything I caught.
(Aside: I was swapping multitools because one is optimised for mining and scanning, and one for fighting, and only one of them has the fishing rod - and when swapping tools, the mission goes back to a tutorial saying I need to install the fishing equipment, which I obviously have, I have just used it… Apparently the game’s self inspection only knows of one multitool…)
Then I saw it had helpfully highlighted another lake on a neighbouring planet. So I had to fly over there, now it started counting caught fish.
When I had x number fish, it showed in the bottom right of the UI, but I can’t complete the mission anywhere. The Nexus says “OMG you newb, you cannot use advanced technology like the nexus!! You obviously need to do the Polo and Nada quest first, duh!!” (Wrong error message?)
In the mission terminal inside the corvette it said “on mission” and the only button says “leave”. After a while I tried “Leave”, since it was blocking me from doing anything else, and I guess that just cancelled it? The description said explicitly I should count the fish and not deliver them anywhere.
