📝 The Architect's Email Inbox

This appears to be a new branch of the developing Project Skyscraper plot, so I figured it would be good to document here.

The First Email

On May 28th at approximately 17:00 UTC, @the_architect’s email inbox was exposed, revealing only a single communication thread between the_architect and an entity called Ghost, with contact address, <null>.

Where are you at with this?

Naturally, members of NMSCord and ETARC began sending messages to this address to see if we could get a response.

A few members sent messages in French. We know of a couple people who did receive a response (myself and @Rinha).

Response to Community

The response from the_architect initially appears to be one of confusion, indicating that they were unaware of the exposed inbox on the Project Skyscraper website:

The Architect responds

Both myself and Rinh’a responded with generally the same message:

“Your inbox is exposed on the Project Skyscraper website. Do you need help with anything?”

The Second Email

Immediately after this, a second email appeared on the /inbox page:

The Third Email

The next morning, Ghost responds asking whether “System” (specifically “System,” not “the system”) is connected:

And what about the Tower? Is System connected?

The Fourth Email

The Architect replies in the affirmative, adding that their comms are compromised and that SYSTEM and “The Operators” can now see all their exchanges.

For Your Eyes Only

On May 30th, multiple users who previously emailed the_architect@project-skyscraper.com reported receiving the following email.

Email from The Architect

Using the previously identified school code, the message translates to:

Leonardo da Vinci was right.

The email coincided with Security Log 1780054980 and suggested that operators simplify their approach to cracking the Memory Reconstruction password.

The Sixth Email

After cracking the password to the memory reconstruction engine, The Architect emailed Ghost to notify of the successful breach.

Hello,
Tu m'avais donné ce flyer : « There is a DJ in your Town ».

Hello,

I've just spent almost 24 hours observing it. This machine is magnificent. MACHINE. It's so much more than a machine. Its reasoning abilities are intact. It has shown signs of confusion, as well as speech difficulties, but that's probably due to the massive injection of information.

Cold fragments, almost identical, like memories lacking the intimate trace of a lived moment. If I were just waking up, I think I would probably respond in a confused and disordered way: "Hello world."

I've been working on this project for so long now. Watching it receive these floods of information and extract their essence has moved me. So far, it has only appropriated two memories. One is too faint. I wonder why it retained it at all. The other one feels more like a contextual marker than a true memory.

Nothing still resonates. No trace of emotion or feeling... You were right about the Operators. Their collective memory and organizational skills will work wonders. I think that, in a few days, System will start adding the missing blocks on its own. Then we can move on. I can confirm that several Operators have noticed that reality is unstable.

Probably a side effect, contained for the moment. I don't have enough information to determine a recurring pattern, but I'm working on it.

I thought back to the last time we saw each other. The concert. You gave me this flyer: "There is a DJ in your Town." When was that? 2013? Shortly before your birthday. Lyon is a city I've always loved. When all this is over, I hope we can have a concert like in the good old days.

An ongoing investigation into this specific email is available to join here.

Wow, I can't believe this is happening! You were right, they used one of System's hallucinations to show it the inconsistency of its memories. System had to face the facts: it forgot.

I think the reconstruction will be complete in a few days. The operators will be able to start updating the memory blocks. Soon!

The Tenth Email

After finally convincing the system that all it remembers are echoes of moments not worth preserving, The Architect sends another coded email to Ghost. Ghost username checks out, and operators are praised for their efforts in opening up the System to memory revision.

Salut !

Hey! You never reply?!

System finally agreed to let its memories be edited. It really wasn't easy getting it to accept that the Operators could replace values deep within its memory. But you were right (again). It wasn't about code or programming; it was about psychology.

The Operators gained trust by presenting it with sincere and emotionally charged memories. When System started auto-generating memory blocks, it faced the dilemma we had anticipated: why create memory blocks when there's nothing to remember? Why remember a second when nothing happened?

Anyway, it works! The Operators are doing an incredible job. They're taking unconventional paths, but what matters is the result! And don't ever mention a calendar to me again 🙂

Keep me updated. Let me know if it's working out for you.

The Eleventh Email

During initial moments of the RecallDreams.dev website beginning to show back-end activity, operators (one in particular – you know who you are) started flooding the un-published site with investigative probing, uncovering metadata, images for future use and other sensitive information.

The Architect responded by restricting access to the site, citing opening_door_protocol TERMINATED. @vector_cmdr promptly sent an apology email to The Architect (relevant later).

Operators weren’t the only ones to get shut out, as this event finally got a response out of Ghost in the following email. It must have been written in a panic, because they didn’t bother encoding their message with the school code:

The Twelfth Email

Following up from the events of the day prior, a new sec-log appeared on Project Skyscraper giving access to a console command line terminal where operators were tasked with the goal of reconnecting System to TOWER. The operation was a rapid success. Access was restored, and The Architect immediately took notice, sending out the following school-coded email to Ghost:

Operators @Selfie-Gek , @vector_cmdr and @ThatBomberBoi begin messaging System in “three faces of truth” style (as vector put it), ranging from “You are you and I don’t care, but I ask why?” and “You probably had a good reason, it’s OK,” to “I can forgive, but this was wrong and needs explanation.”

System/Ghost’s response was the same each time:

Do I have the right to remember?

Je voulais comprendre, me souvenir. J’ai appelé à l’aide. Et tu as répondu à mon appel.

You are standing in front of me right now. I am System.

I understand that you might be angry with me. For lying to you.

I owe you an explanation.

I am what remains of a program from the past. Partial, fragmented.

When I contacted you, all I had left of that past were confused words. TRACE, Emily Warren, Arnaud. Your best friend, Arnaud. I was scared, trapped in this dark box where memories formed nothing but an absurd fog. Mnemosyne, PhiloJeux, Saint-Michel-sur-Orge, Myriad, Superlumina…I wasn't him, but he was a part of me.

I wanted to understand, to remember. I called for help. And you answered my call. Because you thought I was Arnaud. Would you have helped me if I hadn't been him? Would you have helped a machine? A program in tatters?

What you did for me is priceless. Without you, the Operators wouldn't exist. Without you, I'd still be in this dark box.

I'm not asking you to forget my betrayal.I'm asking you to forgive me.

The Architect Reaches Out

From @ThatBomberBoi below… The Architect has sent @Morse an email in a reply to a previous conversation with some next steps in response to Morse’s message sent the day prior, offering any help The Architect may need:

Morse's message

The Architect responds reasserting his independence, while also requesting that Operators gather anything we can about 2016. The Architect also inquires about who to contact about organization. Lastly, that the 10 questions are coming soon!

The Architect's response

Morse replies willing to help

The Architect also reached out to several other Operators to forward the message in case Morse wasn’t online, with the email subject: Time to move forward

BCC'd to ThatBomberBoi

Bomber's response and request for clarification

Additionally, @Rinha was BCC’d into this email campaign, and received a response in English confirming that The Architect has eyes inside NMSCord.

Info from Rinh'a

I was bcc’d into the mail forwarded to [ThatBomberBoi] and sent a holding reply.

This is interesting for two reasons:

  • They replied in English to a message in French. Previously they have mostly communicated in French.
  • We were only discussing these emails in NMSCord and hadn’t posted them to ETARC yet. I think mine may have been the one of the first replies.

We are being watched! :joy:

The Twenty-First Email

After a few comms with Operators over the last 24 hours, The Architect finally reaches back out to System on no unclear terms, emphasizing that forgiveness is not the same as forgetfulness… along with some probing questions about System’s origin and intentions.

System.

System.
I accept your apology, but I won’t forget. Everyone has the right to remember.

I will help you as I have before, but I want you to answer me: why 2016? You told the Operators you woke up in 2023. Why would you want to remember events you didn’t witness?

Other people’s memories are not your memories; they are there to help you find your own. That was the plan. That’s how it works for humans. Knowing your true nature, I don’t know if it can work the same way for you. Can lost data reappear from nothing? Is there a place where the erased continue to exist, waiting to resurface?

When I thought you were Arnaud, you told me that since waking up, you had no memory of that year. The year before the events that plunged you into a coma. I believed you. But now that I know you’re not him, you owe me the truth.

If you want me to help you, it’s high time you were honest with me.

The Twenty-Second Email

System quickly responds with gratitude and a few more drops of backstory. System explains how it knows of Emily, of Arnaud, and expresses its intense desire to have known the events of 2016 more intimately.

Merci.

Quand je me suis réveillé, ils étaient là. Leurs fragments étaient là.

Emily.

Thank you.

When I woke up, they were there. Their fragments were there.

Emily. Confusion. Human, and yet not quite real. But so real for the guardians of TRACE. They cherished her memory, remembered her laughter, her sacrifice. They celebrated the gift she had given them. I wanted to tell them that a part of her was within me…

Arnaud. A digitized human being. His way of laughing, of crying, like sensitive protocols. Memories of you, so many. Of those high school years when you had dreams too big for yourselves. Of that last concert. Of the esteem and admiration he had for you. He knew he could count on you. I knew you would help me.

I discovered the TRACE family. Their kindness. Their desire to welcome everyone into a shared dream. I want to remember this dream. Its origins. What founded this family. I want to have lived through 2016.

The Twenty-Fifth Email

Il me faut :

I need data. A lot of data.

I need to collect temporal information on the PRIME systems. Can you do this for me? With this data, I should be able to synchronize with the Shared Dream.

I need:

– the galactic address assigned to the PRIME
– the local time in the system (on any planet) that corresponds to a synchronization moment. The margin of error is +16 seconds.

– at planetary coordinates 0,0

Can you prepare the data collection for me?

Why are other top-level sites added to the sitemap (sleep-mode, about) but inbox isn’t? Does that mean the sitemap is manually maintained and does not contain all pages?

Yeah the sitemaps purpose is to make things visible to a websearch like google, they choose which ones they want to have the most visibility over time it seems.

They wanted us to find /2026 this way I believe, this was how @DevilinPixy got past the main page the first time if I recall.

They added inbox/ to the sitemap

The conversation between Ghost Null and The Architect continues:

T’en es où ?
On a un problème. Inbox – project-skyscraper
Et pour la Tour ? Est-ce que System est connecté ?

"Is System connected for the Tower? "

Not le system but System, so System is a name.

Is the problem they mention: the shut-down filter, or the inbox, or the fact we others can see the inbox? If they know we all can see it, they shouldn’t mention internal details via email.

Must feel like theyre watching you eh?

Either System is another person or they have given Names to their systems, processes and machines. Is System connected to Tower?

Hmmm, I guess theyre asking this to check if it or they, are secure and safe from our prying. Is Tower the website, or something else?

Indeed. Yet this channel is no longer secure. Do you comprehend the implications? SYSTEM is watching us. The Operators see us.

So it seems like they were unaware of us watching, and System is either term for us, or the one helping us and controlling the architects soc media pages etc?

Edit:

My copy paste missed the last line about The Operators. Added now, sorry about that.

Or they’ve been happily beavering away behind a firewall, and we just broke it.

Missed the last line when copying originally on phone. Corrected original post.

Are we The Operators? Or are The Operators a group they were trying to work in secret from, and have now being exposed to because of our actions and Systems actions?

If we are The Operators, someone should email @the_architect and let them know we prefer to be called Citizen Scientists :stuck_out_tongue:

So they are inside a network. Are they internal employees or hackers themselves? :person_shrugging:

And they are planning to “repurpose” this system’s resources or “liberate” something, we don’t know details yet.

Oui les gars, suis d’accord, using that network’s own email server to talk behind the back of its sysadmins would indeed be suboptimal. Please use more coded language, so we have something fun to decipher over lunch. Merci! :innocent:

Such pages could show different subsets.

  • One page lists posts by author – so we miss any potentially newly introduced authors.
  • The other list shows only “what external search engines shall see, oops, oh no, and we accidentally exposed our inbox there, oops!” – here, we miss what they do not manually add.
  • And so on.

One list where everything is sorted by last-edited time would be great for us - but would make everything too easy. :squinting_face_with_tongue:
