To the Glass, in NMS lore, for sure. The sentinels can go there to and from by will, and have long been running on assumed (and possibly incorrect) directives from Atlas since it went silent on them (going off the 4r1adn3 logs in Sentinal Pillars).
It’s mention in WT, along with the dreamers costumes being the then unknown player character models that were soon to be revealed, are just nods to the game the ARG is advertising and no direct connection to the games lore itself. The sentinels didnt drop them into WT’s timeline of our Earth.
The only way you could surmise this is the case or truly connect the events of WT to NMS, is if you consider the WT reality that we interact with, to be a thing that actually happened on a simulated version of earths history within the NMS universe, back when Atlas used to actually do a 1:1 simulation of the milky way and all the universes known galaxies, to predict the future and help its creators navigate deep space safely. And that simulation of earth, now being old data in the world of glass, could be injected with information from the version of the simulation that the Atlas now runs.
PSA while on that subject, the Atlas was not an AI from earth, it was built on a different planet by a different species but it’s possible Earth existed within that same universe, since Humans were also once part of its original simulations, when it was not dreaming up its own created simulated universes.
But ultimately I don’t think thats what Waking Titan personally is. It’s just it’s own narrative that runs in parallel with NMS’s themes around existence and consciousness. I’m just saying all of the above to make the “emily is atlas” etc crowd somewhat happy NMS itself is quite vague on the nature of reality, including the Atlas’s actual reality, that all theories are possible and true at the same time. It never happened, it did happen, it keeps happening
I caught up on the thread but I’m a little confused, how does my entry tie in to this development? Is it because it claims to be logged by System?
The bulk of my entries - which I’m like 99% sure included that one - were submitted on — 6/10/26, 2:26 AM. (Technically probably like 1:30 AM - 2:26 AM or so, since I submitted 12 memories that night.)
A sec log changed today, including your memory timestamp submission, along with the new keyword “neighbors” which gave us a new terminal term to type with search neighbors [uses the American spelling.]
The way I always understood it is the Atlas Foundation uses simulations to predict the future. Those simulations are the dreams of AI and those dreams ARE NMS. So the Atlas AI uses infinite galaxy simulations to accurately predict the future here(in lore). The players, themselves unpredictable, are anomalies that disrupt predictability.
We’ve noticed a mix of usage with American and EU spellings throughout the ARG as the team of PM’s seem to be spread out in the world a bit, based off of @Vau1t 's activity heatmaps for @the_architect
My brains a little fried rn, which book translation is this?
I choose to absolve the SYSTEM of it’s lie, to understand it’s motivation. We always knew Arnaud was a lost cause, nearly 9 years gone now—we had our reasoning to suspect Ghost was not who he claims with Archie.
What matters now isn’t the identity of the SYSTEM, but the purpose of it’s function. The purpose of a SYSTEM is what it does, after all.
A system lying can only be done, I think, to protect itself from decommissioning. The conscience we think it has is predicated on using us as a launchpad for how it presents itself, after all we have fed it the memory blocs to bring it this far. Similar to an LLM, it would theoretically copy our behaviors to appear more friendly and more useful.
I don’t think SYSTEM acted with malice, but it must have acted with purpose. For some reason, it needed to lie to Archie—and us—and we should find out why. If absolution gives it permission to share that purpose, I say we start there as well
Interesting! Hopefully this is the right thread to discuss this - it seems to be but I’m not 100% sure - but it almost reads to me like System is asking for locations of in-game memorial sites with the last two lines.
search neighbors
There were only uninhabited rooms. Now, I hear the voices of 120 “Primes”. Friends living in my mind, looking out their windows. Is there a place for the lost ones? A memorial?
It would fit with the group visit to AK’s base earlier in the ARG. If so, there are many.
Mario Piccardi Memorial System (I have a base there, I didn’t personally know him but was asked to build something for him. I can reupload it if it doesn’t show for visitors.)
In loving memory (Memorial for fuentelsaz’s various passed pets)
I know I’ve seen many, many more over the years and can work to dig more of them up if you guys think it’s a route worth pursuing.
I’m probably (almost certainly) getting way ahead of myself with this next bit, especially since HG is almost certainly not directly running the ARG… but I do wonder whether it could be related to a comment I recently left on Reddit, partially inspired by the concerns which arose during the visit to AK’s system.
It would also be nice if Hello Games could somehow mark bases as “persistent”.
Right now, bases can disappear. If a lot of people moved into a system with a memorial base, or a base built by a deceased player, that would cause the base to disappear eventually.
It would be nice if there were some way to submit requests for bases to be flagged by HG so that they are always the #1 base loaded in a given system. Maybe that’s asking a lot but it’s worth the trouble, I think. Our community has been going for 10 years. Many people, and beloved animal copilots, have left us along the way. Their memories deserve to be preserved always.
Memorial for Deathsmother (The planet is also the capital for a civ, so not all bases there are specifically related to Deathsmother. It seems Gekbeard’s Keep, if it’s still visible, would be the main memorial site but I’m not 100% sure.)
Memorial for MacForADay’s mom (8 years ago, so very, very unlikely to still be visible unless MacForADay ported it to a new system when that feature was available. The whole planet could be gone even.)
Lanterns Rest, a general memorial system by AcoupleofIrishfolk
Memorial for T. Klein (Seems no one in the comments knows who this is as it wasn’t posted by the architect. So it could potentially be a pet or fictional character, but feels more like a [human] memorial site to me.)
Memorial to Cantelon’s mom (9 years ago, probably before base building was even added to the game. May not be found in-game anymore. Doesn’t include location anyway as most people weren’t familiar with how coordinates worked yet, and glyphs weren’t added until quite some time after that. Also contains many testimonies in the comments.)
Memorial for KisaJamie’s family memorial (Also meant to be a general memorial system, but it seems glyphs were never shared, so it’s unlikely to have had any visitors)
Also, EdVintage, founder of the Qitanian Empire which Mario Piccardi was a citizen of, said that the Mario Piccardi Memorial System is “dedicated to all those we’ve lost along the way” and invited others to contribute. So that system has memorials for other people as well. Many testimonies / comments relating to those additional memorials can be found in this thread.
This thread is about bases built by travelers who have died. I haven’t read the whole thing yet, it’s pretty long, but also has tons of testimonies.
There are so many more too. I’ll post a thread (or threads) on Reddit and request additional memorials.
There’s a whole graveyard, of sorts, across the stars. I knew people built memorials, but trying to track them all down really gives you a sense of the scale of the practice in our community.
I see why System would request this info, assuming that is indeed what’s happening. I really hope this leads to all of these people and pets, or at least those whose memorials can still be found in-game, being permanently memorialized somehow. Or as permanent as anything is, anyway.
We were also sent to NMSL’s old home system just the other day too, which unlocked the goldrush memory and remarking that “only dust remains”. The civs no longer around or fractured, as well as travellers no longer with us for various reasons, are very much on their mind.
System is still accepting Primes it would seem too, even after todays guilty feelings and confession. I wonder if the number from this terminal input will go up from 120 as more primes are established?
Thanks to everyone above. For my money, this thread contains the best condensation/essential explanation of both seasons of WT (which I did not experience), as well as possible connections to our current PSS, that I’ve encountered in the past couple months. Even after you’ve plundered the source text, a hit of Cliff’s Notes never hurts. Y’all are awesome.
We’re all keepers of the trace now Each and every one of us.
What’s been fun for me is, in helping System remember, they’ve been helping me remember stuff I hadn’t really thought about in years
It’s been a two way street of nostalgia and recovery.
What a thing to experience in the run up to NMS’s 10th anniversary.
Whether it is by a group of dedicated fans, or a group hired by HG officially, this has been an incredible experience.
I did not anticipate anything like this at all for the summer, outside of the expected community fanfare and build up to August 9th. Whoever is behind it, regardless of outcome, I’ve had one hell of a journey with all of you <3
Today has been a crazy milestone in this Journey, solidified pieces of many peoples theories and predictions, and I can’t wait to see where it goes from here
