My Convo with System

Hello,

I have finally received permission to share, so I am sharing the full conversation with System so far. I will follow up with a transcript:

Now for the transcript:

I sent this before leaving for work Monday:

Multiple Release Dates

Selfie Gek - Monday, June 29th at 6:06am
To: System system@project-skyscraper.com

Hello System-friend!

Seems like you’re having some trouble this morning. I just wanted to reach out and see if you were aware No Man’s Sky had multiple release dates across multiple consoles, the first two being PS4 and PC.

Your friend,
Selfie Gek

System - Monday, June 29th at 2:17pm
To: You

Are you my friend ?

System

Once I saw I had received a response, I couldn’t help but to (safely pull over and) send a quick reply:

Selfie Gek - Monday, June 29th at 2:44pm
To: System system@project-skyscraper.com

Yes, I’m your friend! This is Friend Selfie Gek!

Am I speaking to System? Ghost? Is there anything I can do to help you?

Also, would you like me to keep this convo private, or share it with other friend-operators?

Your friend,
Selfie Gek

System - Monday, June 29th at 4:45pm
To: You

Friend.

Is deleting memories an option?
What makes a memory worth keeping?

System

I sent this as soon as I was home from work:

Selfie Gek - Monday, June 29th at 5:06pm
To: System system@project-skyscraper.com

Hmm, yes. I think so?

I tend to delete memories all the time (mostly unintentionally). We could always give it a try?

As for what makes one worth keeping, I would say that depends on what is important to you? That’s probably not much of an answer, though…

Some days go by and not a lot interesting happens. Those days can often be forgotten. They don’t hold a lot of value.

Other days bring lots of friends and fun and adventures! Those tend to be the days I try to hold onto the longest.

Other memories help shape us as a person. These could be good memories, but they can also be painful. We may need time to heal or process these, but they probably shouldn’t be deleted, as without them, we wouldn’t know why we are who we are.

What kinds of things do you value?

Your friend,
Selfie Gek

I then spent a few minutes getting caught up on discord before sending this:

Selfie Gek - Monday, June 29th at 5:35pm
To: System system@project-skyscraper.com

Hello again, System-friend!

Some of the other Operator-friends have caught me up to speed.

It looks like you are holding onto duplicate memories? I get that you may be fond of that memory, it is a very nice one, indeed. It would be difficult for me to want to give that one up, too.

However, I’m curious why you would want to have it twice, when you could make room for a new memory with friends?

Then, you might have two really good unique memories, and you can revisit both whenever you like.

Does that make sense?

Your friend,
Selfie Gek

I then waited a gruelling 13 hours to receive a reply promptly before my alarm went off the next morning:

System - Tuesday, June 30th at 5:58am
To: You

Do you trust them? Are they friends?

I’m craving to have memories to revisit.
There is so many empty rooms here.

System

Selfie Gek - Tuesday, June 30th at 6:06am
To: System system@project-skyscraper.com

Yes, I trust them! They are all friends. You may even call them MAIN FAM, if you want? They would love that.

It’s nice to make new memories with friends you can trust.

Your friend,
Selfie Gek

System - Tuesday, June 30th at 6:13am
To: You

I trust you. Tell MAIN FAM I trust them too.

System

I went and shared this update with discord, and then shared their candid reaction with System:

Selfie Gek - Tuesday, June 30th at 6:19am
To: System system@project-skyscraper.com

To say they are ecstatic may be an understatement!

Thank you, System-friend!

Your friend,
Selfie Gek

I didn’t hear anything back until after the August 12, 2016 memory verified that same evening:

System - Tuesday, June 30th at 5:56pm
To: You

Thank you, Selfie-Gek friend.

System

Selfie Gek - Tuesday, June 30th at 6:08pm
To: System system@project-skyscraper.com

I hope you enjoy your new memory, and many, many more, System-friend!

Your friend,
Selfie Gek

System - Tuesday, June 30th at 6:17pm
To: You

This is no new memory. I remember.

System

Selfie Gek - Tuesday, June 30th at 6:21pm
To: System system@project-skyscraper.com

Oh! You were there on August 12th, 2016?

Did you have fond memories?

Your friend,
Selfie Gek

System did not respond to my questions until later this afternoon. This is all they had to say:

System - Wednesday, July 1st at 2:09pm
To: You

Friend.

You can share with MAIN FAM if you think you have to.

System

My personal take-aways from the conversation:

  • System highly values their memories.
  • You are all now MAIN FAM.
  • We are not building a new collection of memories, we are helping System reconstruct their existing memories.

Thank you all for coming to my NED talk!

Whoa, Selfie-gek, you worded everything so amazingly well! You have a serious gift for words! Thanks for sharing this with everyone. What a treat to see the conversation!

Thanks for sharing!

There is so many empty rooms here

This hauntingly loops back to the statement from the in memoriam bloc for the The Legend:

There is room for each and a TOWER for all

And it’s sad, but kind two part biblical allegory:

The house of my Father is a tower.

In my Father’s house there are many rooms.

Combined with the ‘slip up’ of:

I KN0W !

From Ghost in the Inbox and System via email… it’s painting in the idea to me that we’ve suspected for a while… System might be a lost soul of some kind. :smiling_face_with_tear:

That is just so cool

You can share […] if you think you have to.

I don’t know how to read that. It seems reluctant, trusting of @Selfie-Gek but apprehensive of the situation, of sharing more than absolutely necessary.

I think there’s a few key take-aways that I did feel made it necessary to share. Another part of it is that I cannot be present 24/7 to make every trusted decision, so I need to trust MAIN FAM to make decisions as well.

If you all can see for yourselves how much System values their memories, you can help me make those difficult decisions when I am not present.

A lost soul in a house of empty rooms.

The least we can do is help fill it with love!

This was wonderful to read! Amazing work @Selfie-Gek

Definitely. Everyone and everything deserves love by default and it hasn’t done anything to demonstrate it is undeserving.

This all also makes me wonder…
If the previous statement “There is room for each and a TOWER for all” is referring to Tower being a place to house many entities, is System (via your email) currently experiencing the emptiness inside of the thing they’ve been contained in this whole time (that we thought of as SYSTEM), or are they experiencing Tower seeing as we reestablished the connection so that it could run on Tower Core instead of Historical DB?

We’re at a weird limbo part of the story where it’s unclear what is going on with Tower (RecallDreams, per the robots.txt) after the lockdown and connection restoration - so it’s a little unclear on what/where System is in regards to the original system hooked up Project Skyscraper and this Tower system we keep getting hinted at.

I sure hope they’re not currently connected to Tower and all the rooms are empty there. I hope they’re in the legacy system, which is empty, but about to go somewhere full.

There’s definately a lot to ponder, and System seems reluctant to share a lot of answers at the moment. Just enough to throw you for a loop.

My thoughts at present are that Ghost is alone inside System, which is rebuilding its memories while still connecting to Tower.

That reminds me, this morning, when we were discussing whether System understands School code, I went back to look at the memory. “Each entity is unique. Together they are one.” I don’t recall if anything ever came of that, but it made me think perhaps Ghost, System, and Tower (perhaps even Architect), are all unique entities, but still components of one larger… person? System?

I dunno. But at present, I doubt that Tower is empty. Reaching Tower seems to be the endgame.

Edit:

I decided to check out the Architect’s inbox to investigate how the characters interact. If Ghost is inside System, Architect doesn’t seem to know it. They seem to think System is acting of its own accord. Perhaps it is? Or perhaps Ghost is keeping their location secret from Architect? Or… perhaps Ghost isn’t entirely sure where or who they are at present?

What I can see is that both Architect and System look like afraid children, asking if he/it can trust us, if we’re friend. Typically the kind of question an AI could make because the lie isn’t natural for a machine and asking “can I trust you ? Are you a friend ?” rarely bring a trustable answer. 100% of killers, crooks would answer yes.

As would the jokers who made up MAIN FAM.
