We should absolutely make a splinter topic called “So, AI do art and stuff…”
Not knocking AI art, I funk with that stuff too in my off time, have an RTX card so I run little homebrew stable diffusion things from time to time <3
I’m one of those annoying people that sees AI generation as a tool that paid artists really don’t want to hear about. It’s actually a perfect companion for the primordial stage of a wider project.
Also my background is in music, generative music and jamming with a bunch of modules with timed parameters and randomizers is not a new thing, musicians have been using “AI” to write and bounce off of for decades now, so coming from that world certainly helps with understanding AI as a tool rather than something to replace artists (unless you work for a shitty company, in which case, did you not see the big WB logo on yr way in?
)
Continued work on the armchair I posted quite some time ago here.
Took it apart a few weeks ago, to see what it looked like and to be able to list the final purchases required. I now have all the material like, HR-foam, webbing, canvas, etc.
The canvas used was jute like and is not actually a great choice to carry weight. This results in the fabric stretching, leaving quite a dent. Obviously this was never an expensive chair to begin with, but I wanted to at least fix this properly. So I figured I’d come up with a better way and decided to go with webbing. I did not want to get the proper tools to use the more classical jute webbing, so instead I used a modern alternative elastic webbing. It comes in a variety of strengths, with the stiffest being suitable for seats. This is easier to stretch manually to then tack it in place. In my case I had to stitch it instead, as I hardly have any wood to work with, mostly the metal frame. One side is easier, to then tension it and do the other side, which is the tougher part. Here is the result so far, which took me quite a while to be honest. Not the most enjoyable part of this project, that’s for sure.
Next up will be lots of sewing. I have already cut the foam, batting, and fabric to size. I think I’ll be starting with the base to leave the cushions last.
In its current state, that looks very much like I an old beach chair I ‘fixed’ using seatbelts from a car.
Was far more comfortable than the scratchy original material. I believe it still lives, although I haven’t seen it in 30 years.
I also have a steel-rod framed chair that was once wicker wrapped but now has comfy repurposed truck cargo strapping. It too is surprisingly comfy.
You’ve also inspired me to fix a simple flat-fold camping stool whose canvas ripped through a few years ago when the worn out pivot bolt let go & my partner found herself sitting on the floor astride the remains. ![]()
Wish I could grab a ticket and head that way…hope they find the missing paintings. Hope they have good coverage of the show so we can all see his works.
Maybe we can pay @Polyphemus to be our eyes, a train ticket to LANDAN is certainly cheaper than a flight to the UK. I know you’re in recovery mode but feel up for going to an art Gallery good sir? ![]()
Update on the armchair
Now I am really getting there. Just have to add a bit of filler and manually stitch the back and front cover together. After that the buttons can be done, which I have to get made with some left over fabric. Lastly I can put the arm rests back in place and this project should be finished!
Now you’re thinking sitting with portals
It’s starting to look irresistibly comfortable now and the colours make it all the more inviting.
That’s cool! Did it have those armrest pillows originally or did you come up with the idea?
OMG, the pie is amazing! ![]()
Thanks! I have done a taco and a hamburger too. They are smaller. I am working on making mini amigurumi and adding clips so they can be hung from backpacks, phones, keys, etc…
A friend of mine wants me to join her in the local art tour in October. If my hands don’t lock up, I am going to try.
Small works causes big finger cramps.
Trial run. Terrible pics.
Cute lil brugger @-@
And I never knew it until just now but Telamon on a keychain is something we are all lacking in our lives.
Everyone will just think it’s BB-8 though. And then you have to explain how it isn’t… I dunno. Sounds stressful. Burn it, halt production!
These are delightful! I think you’ve a winner on your hands. Uh, in your hands? Which will hopefully acclimate! Actually… what size are these? Two or three inches across?
I had to look up amigurumi . So that was educational. ![]()
Thanks! Yes, about 2 to 3 inches. They are fun to do except for the finger cramping but they are so small and the different parts making them up are small so there is not much to hold on to. ![]()
Sadly, at the moment going into the next room requires effort. Until about six weeks ago, getting up the stairs took 10 minutes on my hands and knees. Thankfully, I can now walk up the stairs, although, by the time I get to the top, I generally wish I hadn’t. Hospital appointments require taxis and a wheelchair, and travelling anywhere for pleasure is becoming a fading memory.
Some of my ability is returning, but progress is dreadfully slow. I used to enjoy art galleries - but at the moment, they’re way beyond my powers.
Well with a little luck and cosmic chance, Banksy might paint his next animal mural within view of your window and the art can come to you ![]()
Glad to hear your mobility is slowly returning, I can’t imagine the patience and strength required to go through that, we’re all rooting for you <3 Except for @Mad-Hatter , I think that word has a totally different meaning in Australia '^ _ ^
Edit: it has arrived.
