So, I do art and stuff - general artistic / creative chat

This is quite inspiring, particularly @sheralmyst 's studies. Quite lovely, particularly your second “fresco.”

I’m going to try, really try, to be creative today. My aching heart is with my fic right now, and it’s super easy to load up the file, so I’ll give that a shot. I’m particularly encouraged to see that people are still reading the monstrosity. If not, I might fly around in Euclid some more, or… race. My dad was a racer himself as an enthusiast yahoo, so I guess it’s in the DNA or something.

Nice to hear from you again @stryker99 .
I have been overwhelmed by things that must be done…and waiting on a tube of precious burnt umber. Seems to be out of stock everywhere. In fact, many paint supplies seem to be low on stock.
Took my ‘zoo’ to the vet for yearlies and this was on the bench outside

I absoloutely must paint it though, I hear my pastels calling me and a nice sheet of colored paper.
Believe it or not, I feel drawn towards my old subject matter of barns and old homes in rural settings. This time though, I would like to approach them with a looser style. I am finding my hand leaning towards a merging of different styles which is where I would like to ultimately be. Not exactly copying others but pulling in aspects from various styles…
One thing I have discovered, my lower back will not allow me to stand or sit at an easle for more than 30 minutes. Maybe that will help me keep my brush loose.

Playin’ around with heavy impasto

That’s a gorgeous piece. Nice technique, getting color gradients across a knife stroke. Making those stems with a scratch I assume, and the fiery background itself is very pretty. The whole piece makes you want to gaze at it for a while.

Those are wonderful. You didn’t even need to say, I can see they where done out of enjoyment. :heartpulse:

The top one is my favorite of these two!

So happy to hear how much fun you are having! Your joy is glowing through these pieces!

Salt on a wet canvas is quite fun! It draws in the water and part of the color and leaves a kind of tie-dye affect

Your styles are expanding wonderfully. Very nice pieces.

I couldn’t sleep. I can see writing will have to wait till this weekend. Or art. Or music. Hopefully… :expressionless:

Good luck with it @stryker99 !

Well…my first go with the Malcolm Dewey style…I grabbed a pic from the internet that looked to have real colors…of course, my brain altered them

My purple flowers are too evenly spaced :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: but there are a lot of them in the original pic
My back was killing me before I was done…very distracting. Not sure what I will do. Take a break between layers I guess. That means I will really need a palette that keeps my paints wet longer…
I think I need a few stronger highlights in the trees…
Also the light is a bit confusing. I think it was almost overhead…but that is what it looked like in the pic.

I liked your flowers. More than a hint of Klimt in there - do I detect a fan?

I do like Klimt, yes. but I think I am far from that level. but thanks!

So this is funny. I threw this together on a canvas I totally messed up. I just sold it. Go figure.

Terrible pic
The squiggle is not actually on the canvas

Wow! sheral, that’s wild. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, it looks great. I wish I could say something like that for any of my creations!

On a happier note in my case, I’ve been writing today - for the first time in months! Well, more than a tiny paragraph anyhow. It feels so good to create something we feel involved with in an intimate way. The art in this thread looks like it came from the heart.

One thing I’ll hasten to add is that I’ve been doing kind of an embargo of a lot of the threads in the forums till I dive back into NMS gameplay again. I just gave a peek in here this week because I caught a bit of chatter about an update. And woah, I’d missed a BIG update, and a couple of Expeditions. If I didn’t know better, I’d say I might have kind of sort of inspired the team a little bit with my fic. That’s one of the reasons I wrote it after all. When it gets to the climax, I’ll be very curious what people think of it. It might be impossible to include as-is in the game, but who knows what creative sparks might fly from it.

squiggle or not, that painting is lovely! Thanks for sharing it with us. (and congrats on selling a painting! :grinning:

I’m still banging my head against the painting I was forced to abandon all winter due to the cold. It is driving me crazy. I have half a mind to just burn the damn thing and start over. :innocent:

One of the problems I’m having with it is the aspect ratio of 10x8" does not really suit the subject. It should really be 10x6". That’s what I get for using “standard” panels. lol

Lovely! So happy to hear it!

When I’m writing novels (which I haven’t done for a number of years now), I try to write at least 1,220 words each day. Do that for a month and I have over 50K words written (although I usually end up with 70-90K).

My problem with writing novels is editing. Once it is written the last thing I want to do it edit! Nine novels written (first draft) and not one of them is edited. Probably couldn’t find them now anyway.

Here is a link to Golden’s latest “Just Paint” article.

I get their monthly newsletter. There is a ton of helpful and interesting research and best practices information on there.

There aren’t too many art product companies I love, but three of them are Royal Talens who make those marvelous water soluble oils and watercolors, Windsor & Newton for all their paints, and of course Golden, which are gold. I like a few more like Utrecht, and Holbein which are made in Japan of all things. I also like Master’s Touch products from Hobby Lobby in the States, when in a pinch. I have been getting the itch to try watercolors, which are a bit easier for me to dive into. At least they were in the past…

I’ve been thinking that I should go over my monster novel posted in here and edit it. Some for brevity and just to take scenes more seriously. I’ve been throwing everything down almost in a stream of consciousness, and some of it is a bit… liberous, for a word. Maybe some day when I get some more images ready to paste in, which I’ll need help with from the mod Mods. I tried opening an old post months ago and it wouldn’t work.

I just found this Just Paint article really helpful, too. I have an acrylic painting that I sold and need to get it to the collector.

I feel shocked that anyone would even consider wrapping a painting --especially an acrylic painting-- with bubble wrap, or tissue paper! :astonished:
