Some of the new terrain has been very surprising, it was hard to get an impression of just how much it has changed in purple systems from the trailer/deep dive.
I just came across this small moon with seas and noodley terrain coming out of it everywhere, reminds me of the kind of alien terrain you’d encounter in earlier versions of No Mans Sky.
Unfortunately it was a black and white planet so it’s hard to tell from the photo where the water is but this should give the idea. I can’t wait to find one like this in full colour
Some of the mountains are huge on other planets I’ve come across, I was shocked when I came in from atmosphere to land and the ground just kept coming, for a moment I thought what was the land was the sea floor and the water hadn’t rendered in but my ship just keeept going.
I thought the floating islands were islands in the water.
You can see here one of those typical floating islands that would generate above land on certain planets (not the new ones with waterfalls) They’re generally kinda high up, usually a full jetpack tank and then mining in through the bottom with terrain manipulator to reach the top…
Yesterday went through a storm down to the surface of a water planet. Flew low over the water and through the higher waves. Nice effect and the ship got a needed wash.
It’s extremely difficult to catch the size and layering of the waves in stills, always disappointing, so many moments I ended up abandoning trying to get depth and scale across… photo modes need to start adding an export/record as gif option
I also find I lose a lot of tone and depth as I play in HDR 1440p and something gets lost in translation between ps5 screen shot and downloading to phone from ps app, the contrast ends up in that muddy grey area
Oh that’s good to know, what a lovely surprise. Survival/Permadeath playmodes change of pace can really open it up to some special moments, especially after leaving a hidey hole when the raging storms end.
The waves are so wild during storms, I found one of my deepwater bases was not deep enough any more. The waves dipped below the portal and allowed water inside
