Thank you @BlackIris and @sheralmyst.
Another reason to stay indoors is inbound for Texas and points SE. Call me strange but, I am kinda looking forward to this. I have never experienced a dust storm. And it is from another continent so I find it kinda cool.
You’d better be, that’s your annual load of free fertilizer coming in!
I didn’t even realize that the dust storm was coming. It will definitely be interesting to experience, Thanks for posting this!
This article answers a question I had. The masks with the vents. They are designed to keep particles from getting in but they do not keep particles from leaving. Kinda defeats the purpose. So no masks with vents.
FiveThirtyEight: What To Look For In A Face Mask, According To Science.
And avoid these
The trouble is, PPE is specifically designed to protect the wearer, and nobody else. There are extensive international standards for protective equipment, but none of them take into account the possibility that you might be trying to protect someone else That’s not what PPE was designed for.
In Europe (and also in the UK, since we’re still using European standards), the standards for PPE come from EU directives, which are then expressed as member states’ law.
Equipment designed to protect people other than the wearer is not PPE as defined in the directives. There are no standards for such equipment - nor can there be, unless new international legislation is agreed and adopted.
Yip particle exchange…
This PSA vid from Czechia from early April has a good explanation in my opinion. Everyone to wear a mask i.e. due to the issue of filtering on incoming not outgoing etc
Here in SA its mandatory/law to wear a face mask outside of your home. Shops and business premises are not allowed to let people in without a mask.
Personally i use a filtering standard rated Mask i started with an FFP3 but ran out, and could only get FFP2. All with a valve to assist with breathing out, as surgical or cloth masks are too claustrophobic and well get stanky after a while…
I just wish everyone would wear one. I don’t care what kind
I have noticed that shoppers without one seem to feel ill at ease when others around them wear one. Since we are in this for some time to come, hopefully more will begin to wear one.
So not the virus but a nice distraction. The Saharan ‘Godzilla’ dust plume is just now reaching this area (yesterday actually. But it was so cloudy it was hard to tell what was what). It is hard to make out but the sun is definitely not as bright as it should be. There is a haziness all around (not fog)
The clouds have a brown tint to them. Too bad it does not really show in the pic. But it is 8am and fairly dark. According to the weather channel, our visibility is currently 1.5 miles
Darn. You mean we can’t call it the “Chinese virus” anymore. Come … on! I wanna hate!
LOL.
For context: Czechia had ~2 months of strict lockdown (starting in March) followed by 2 months of slow phased reopening with masks everywhere. In shops and public transport, everyone still wears masks today.
The special thing also was that this bridge and surrounding streets are always full of tourists, and now was the first time that the locals felt they could do what they want there (they chose food and music).
The heat index will be 110 today…I am not going any place. (I bought a car in January. Have not put 5k miles on it yet and I have to make a 50 mile round trip to town.) Most do not wear a mask here…scary. At least our testing sites are drive-thru.
I have only been to my mom’s, to the Wal Mart parking lot and in Brookshire’s 2 times , at 7am when it was empty, and Dollar General 3 times also when it was empty. I have driven in to help several older people with tech issues. Every time, I wear a mask. They wear a mask and everything I touch gets sanitized.
I have driven around town just to drive around. Did not stop any place. I have driven thru Burger King once and into Sonic 4 times. They all wear masks and BK has kept their lobby closed. That sums up my entire life since March. I know for a fact that our church services and large gatherings will remain online for the remainder of the year and quite likely even longer. Oh, and I cut my own hair…it’s not too bad. My hairdresser is not wearing a mask…I told her I would not be coming to see her.
2020…a year to go down in history…hopefully the Truth will be recorded.
ABC News: Alabama students throwing ‘COVID parties’ to see who gets infected: Officials.
As a high school student, why am I not surprised .
Progress! The amount of people not wearing masks down here is ridiculous.
