This guy showed some alleged images of LNF leaked by a playtester
I only looked at the comments and they all basically say, why did you post this video obviously knowing the images are AI generated…
(I found a benefit of YouTube ads! The ad gives me time to hit pause and read a few of the comments and then close the window…)
Its Profesor Cynical. Ofcourse its going to be misinformation and/or a bait video. Thats pretty much what he’s known for.
And this is what happens when you show a trailer and follow it with an extended period of silence.
I think any form of “news” which has Cynical as it’s primary source should probably be approached as misinformed rambling at best, if not a self-designed hoax to drive clicks.
I will say Hello Games’ marketing strategy with this game just really isnt it. The general hype around the game seems to have died down, with even the most diehard parts of the NMS community slowly moving away. A year of silence after revealing a technically impressive and attention garnering game is a really strange move. I know HG like to surprise us and show off their work in a big flashy reveal, but I’m not sure how well that strategy works for a new IP where you’d wanna expose it to the wider gaming community who has no idea about your communication methods.
That’s precisely why I think LNF has run into development problems. All the signs pointed to a winding up of the current NMS story arc in late 2024, followed by a big LNF reveal - but it didn’t happen. Instead, NMS got endless reruns of old expeditions. It really does look like development has stalled.
Not that I mind so much - I would far rather they took their time, and got it right.
And yet, I can’t help but wonder if this latest modder update to NMS is a sign of them setting up NMS for the big goodbye. The mods are what have kept some iconic games going for many years and HG no doubt wants that for NMS. It could indicate a shift soon…
Whilst I agree that HG will hope to keep No Man’s Sky as a going concern, I think it’s more likely they’re testing the modding system for Light No Fire.
Bits and bobs of this system have been left in the exe since Origins. Current levels of mod support arent nearly powerful enough in NMS to keep it afloat past it’s development cycle. I’m pretty sure this is more a case of someone picking up a side project enhancement again rather than a marked shift…
Speaking of the experimental, I kinda think they’re gearing up for Steam Workshop integration. The current struct HG use references AuthorIDs, ContentIDs, a set of DependencyIDs and update timestamps, which doesn’t make too much sense given no one uses these in the current modding environment, but are a part of how Steam Workshop uploads and handles User Generated Content. I don’t see them giving us a proper API with this still, but it might be a better place to host mods.
Yes, and the only platform that has confirmed Light No Fire is Steam.
I hope so! I remember downloading user created stuff a long time ago. It was so cool. But then it seemed to fizzle.
If we could download player bases it would be cool but then again, how would it all work.with build limits? And we can visit them thru portals so…idk…
The modders might just make the LNF planet in NMS…
Im not sure if current NMS is build to handle that yet.
I’d be more excited by the tools that’d let us get anywhere near that level of modding complexity than the prospect of that specific mod honestly.
