I agree - I made a similar suggestion some time ago but it was quickly quashed - something to do with this being the go-to place… I still think categories would be a good thing like:
- Arty/Abstract shots
- Space - inc. Planets/Stations/Freighters/space-flight+combat
- Ships - inc. Planetary flight/Trade Stations/Outposts
- Landscapes - inc. Flora & Structures
- Seascapes - All underwater shots except Fauna
- Fauna - inc. Underwater
- Bases & Creations
- Anything else…?
We already have the following shot-heavy threads such as:
- This one
- S-Class Megathread
- Through the Window
- Graphic Hiccups
Other than a bit more moderation required, what’s a few more eh? Any volunteers?! 
Only issue I can see is that this forum doesn’t lend itself to having topics with sub-categories… Am I wrong?

Being a traditional and digital visual artist myself, I’d like to see an NMS-Inspired Visual Art category. These would not be any kind of screenshots, but player created line art, paintings, sketches, even 3D art, made by players rather than screenshots from in the game.
They would not necessarily be copies of anything in NMS, (but could be) but creations that have been inspired by it’s beauty and technology.
There are more than a few wonderful artists in this community that have posted works in this thread. It would be lovely to have a place where their work could be appreciated on its own.
This thread is my go to here. I keep it up in my browser all the time. I would do that with a “Player Created NMS-inspired visual art” thread, too. <3

Yup, this is exactly what I meant! I would propose changing this topic to just focus on screenshots, and have new sister topic (they could link to each other in the OP) that is for original artwork.

I agree that having more specific topics for some of those you mention would certainly be preferred. This topic has been created long time ago, with in my opinion, too broad a subject. It used to include video and alike as well. As some of you remember, I already made a split for the video content, moving over all the video content posted here and from some other topics. We further discussed to focus on more specific topics with the release of a next update and keep this topic as is for the time being.
That being said, everyone is free to create new specific topic, as seen with the few examples you mentioned. Making a topic too specific however, may result in hardly any posts to then soon be forgotten about again. Keep that in mind and it will usually work out fine.
On the topic of creating categories and sub categories, this forum actually lends itself very well for it. However, these can only be created by the admins, and need to be discussed first. For that matter, I am hoping to see some changes for the better in the near future.

If I remember correctly, i think you said prior that this was a “Rotting Planet”.
Which is the exact same planet type I 1st spawned on. Left quick, for a “Bountiful Planet”.
I think it’s impressive you stuck it out after the 1.3 reset. - What was it before?

Thank you! Like others here I wrote a story about the experience my character was having and that helped a lot to keep me going.
And now that you ask, I have been so dug in to making this place work, that I can no longer remember what it’s type was called before the upheaval. 
Except that it had deep blue grass and lots of beautiful trees and ridges to climb. The animals were the same ones as now, but fewer spawned at once. I spent the first two weeks of play just walking around with my mouth open. lol
Sounds beautiful. I wonder what it will become with 1.5?
I’m scared to death of what will become of my present home.
I left bountiful “Placidica” for a Lush Planet I call “Paradisium”.
I’m OK with change, for improvements. But this is going to feel so disorientating.
