NMS Relics Expedition 18

Hmmm…so I have softened marrow in each slot but it says operation unavailable…ok. just use 2 slots

Large skeleton (somehow it cannot be lit up properly) and rock and skull exhibit,

Museum cash desk and cafe, and door frame made out of ruin pieces.

Five main exhibits (these are superlit in comparison).

For those who have not yet started the expedition, I highly recommend building a small base in the hyperborean planet in the starting system and returning to it later. It has the best pockets of bones but you won’t have room in your pockets. So return here later when you have the space to collect the 80 fossils needed

I advise all expeditionaries to carry the plans and materials to build the exocraft of your choice. I’m finding it impossible to land anywhere even vaguely near the rendezvous points - I’m not talking about yards, or hundreds of yards - I’m talking miles. It’s ridiculous.

I had the same issue. I had to find a landing pad to land on and then walk and walk and jet and walk…
and I returned to the starting planet and now I see no other bases on the planet except mine…

Has anyone seen a skeletal sandworm?

I bought a better ship in the space station. It has a hyperdrive.

Oh, they all had hyperdrives after I finally made that first jump. But none had one in the first system before the first jump. I believe this was deliberate and meant to force us to use the starter ship. But I fly in 3rd person and I can’t see over those tall science ships. So I was hasty in parting with it. HG likely did not expect a player to have millions of units that fast.

I’m being extra patient & waiting out a patch or two before starting the expedition.
It’s hard…

Concentrating on chores & paperwork now & I’ll indulge in NMS Exp 17 on the weekend.
Am enjoying the mild spoilers though & just skimming the details.
I’m considering it ‘intel’ gained by first wave of travellers.

Exhausting last few days.
I will check on @Polyphemus rescue base again. Last night, I could not see any bases but mine on that planet. I could see bases on other planets…if not for that freighter and all the bones and artifacts to sell, I would have been doomed. :scream:

Sometimes when I defeat a stone guardian, an artifact marked “living stone” is left hanging in the air. It self-destructs after a couple of seconds. It behaves like it ought to be a valuable collectible, like the monstrosity eggs - but so far I haven’t been fast enough to catch one before it disintegrates.

Can they be collected? Are they used for anything?

The only thing I have been able to get are the Vigilant Stones and I do not see a purpose for them either…

Been wondering this too, the update notes also indicate the risk of defeating them gives valuable rewards. So it can’t mean the eye since you can just grab those and run.

I occasionally get polished stone from them too.

It’s most likely bugged or not properly implemented yet.

I also think they aren’t functioning as intended, the watcher stones.

If you disturb one, it breaks any around it in a radius. Sometimes they are close to fossils, other times not so much. I get the impression disturbing a fossil within their radius is supposed to also activate the eyes but doesn’t seem to be the case.

For now the only risk is holding the button when you think it’s selected the bones in front of you but actually selected the eye slightly beside you.

Their pathfinding can also be bugged at the best of times if the terrain is in any way rugged.

The vigilant stone collectibles fluff also makes it sound like you can place them in a base or having them in storage containers before defeating the guardians might not be a wise choice, but it seems to be primarily fluff.

Speaking of update notes, it mentioned a new indication for NPCs having unexplored or further dialogue options. Anyone figured out what this is referring to? I’ve been visiting all sorts of NPCs to try and figure it out.

Also @sheralmyst I placed a bunch of bone skull wall mounts and plytlnths around some bases to see if I can reproduce your bug. Will let you know if I do. Was wondering, did you build this in an expedition system with other players or a private system/existing base?

Edit:

Another note on Guardian combat. The Minotaur AI currently does not recognise them as targets. Most likely an oversight on HGs end but for now let’s assume they’re just distant cousins and the Minotaur can’t bring itself to do it.

@Polyphemus

Now that I think about it, they did mention that stone guardians can also be found wandering ruined planets. Perhaps there’s a unique reward tied to these encounters? Will try some ruined planets minus bones and see what I can find.

Oh there are also new titles tied to Paleontology/Archeology you can unlock by doing x amount of various dig related activities, just unlocked one there  There seem to be 4 new titles in total if you count the one we get from the Expedition

The wall mount issue? I was in the expedition building my own base. I placed skulls on the walls and when I moved them to reposition them, they changed when I placed them again

Ah I thought they had just changed on a return visit. Will move mine with the move function and see what happens.

I did attempt deleting them last night and it returned the skulls, so it might be the go to method if moving them with edit mode is bugged

edit:

On the search for Guardians on a normal ruined planet, I thought I spotted the first sighting. On my visor appeared a Fossil Bed. On a non fossil planet. My guess was this would be where the Guardian would be wandering if anywhere, or maybe it will just be the same as on fossil planets, and will be eyes to disturb among the fossils.

Turns out it was none of those things. It was actually the new Dig Site POI.

Since they can be on any planet, it looks like this would be a good method of finding one, and also you can now gather a small amount of bones this way via normal play since the dig site POI’s spawn with a fossil bed.

… Yet? There are aspects that cry out for added use.

Hmmm. Has anyone tested weapons and which give fastest “kill” for guardians and golems?

As most know, I’m averse to combat, but many expeditions and some missions require it. So, I’d like to “beef up” my weapons and upgrades prior to my new PC arriving in a week or so. I have not set hotkeys for weapons, so I may need to go that to quickly change. Scrolling through the multi-tools using the “G” key on PC is maddeningly slow and I’m prone to “passing” the right one by pressing the key too many times.

The scatter blaster in the expedition worked well even with little upgrade. Definitely aim for the arms. The punches these golems land are very painful. Then when it spins like the Tasmanian Devil from Looney Tunes, RUN!

Yeah. I noticed the slam and you go flying in the promo video.

I wonder if you would blast then from a starship without attracting sentinel attention.

I remember a beam of light that I couldn’t pinpoint. Scrambled back into my ship and hovered - looking around. Finally found it beneath me. Moved a little ways away and used the Photon Cannon. No incoming fire and finished in a short time.
