Yup Bandai Japan:
The Nintendo Switch™ version does not have multi-functions.

Atleast they are making it clearer…Also says their version releases Oct 6th instead of 7th.

The same account as before is now playing the game on Nintendo Switch, and dropping gameplay as they test.

Something interesting to note, in the UI video there is no sign of the datamined “portal” UI. I wonder if that’s indicative of 4.0 being a day 1 thing?

I believe the game was loaded with a copy before Endurance I believe…Likely anything new will be part of 4.0…but I still want to see a file dump and see how they shrunk it 3.1/4.6

As part of that goal, 4.0 adds a new Relaxed mode (playable with either a fresh or existing save), which Murray calls a “very fun version of No Man’s Sky where the focus is on exploration, less on just surviving and grinding, [where it’s easier] to see the six years of content that’s there”

Lots of little tidbits coming out today.

" milestones have been expanded in 4.0, giving players new goals"

If you come back to the game [in 4.0] there’s actually a log where you have a summary of the story so far," Murray said. “We have an info portal that will collect together everything that you’ve done so far, everything you’ve unlocked, all of that, and give you more info on it, so that you can dig into it.”

Yup, we were right about the “portal ui”. And it’s gonna be there. If everything you’ve unlocked is indeed everything, that should include all the tidbits of lore. Yay! :+1:

All in all, I like a lot of what I’m hearing. Consolidation and integration, and especially a game mode where I can tweak things to my liking, certainly have a much higher potential to get me playing again than some new feature that feels a bit tacked on. I have to say, I really start to like the way they essentially go nuts with throwing content updates out there and then spend the effort every year or so to get all the parts into harmony again.

Awesome! That is up there with my most desired QoL changes. Grouping up lore and being able to read it all later was much needed…

No giro aim (yet)? I hope they prioritise that next after the content updates, it’s a cool feature.

For people who only have (or prefer using) a Switch, buying NMS will be an easy choice. But I’m not sold on getting the Switch version at all, I actually prefer keyboard and mouse and the big screen of the PC version. :person_shrugging: A selling point for me would be, when travelling with a Switch, my brother and I could play locally together, but if there’s no crossplay anyway…?

I wasn’t following all announcements, did they say crossplay/multiplayer was completely out of the question for the Switch?

In the interview, SM stated they would listen to the players and left it open…but for now, it is left out for the benefit of performance.

So the 4.0 update is 99% a Switch console integration, with no real alterations or improvements to NMS as it currently stands on other platforms?
I’m a bit confused as to what all the hype is…
Or am I missing something…?

4.0 focus is switch. Murray has described it as a large update, but not a content heavy update. In other words it is a QOL update, with a lot of updates to existing systems. There are a bunch of articles that just came out, have a read, very interesting stuff.
