That part of the world has lots of practice at this

It would be interesting to know the timing here. It’s not out of the ordinary, and was probably already planned for some time, and has now become an issue with ICE kinda turning into the GeStaPo of late.

If this was decided and announced now, after all this, somebody is being a diplomatic troll.

The italians should ask the pope if he can lend them the swiss guard to contain ICE. Might do them some good witnessing actual discipline and training for a change.

Nice of the clock to catch up with how we’re all feeling

It’s kind of strange that we are living 26 years into the ‘future’ I grew up hearing about… the ‘Beyond 2000’ times.

I thought it was going to be modular shiney white homes, fantastic cities & smart energy solutions across the world. Instead its just a suit-run clusterfuck of dystopian level mess, plastic moulded junk & high-level fibs all housed in the same crumbling architecture that housed us 50 years ago.

Gotta admit… I’m feeling a bit scammed :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

To be fair, we did get the wristwatch TVs and pocket computers - but then we used them for bullying, and sending each other low-grade nonsense.

I feel silly for fooling myself in my teens that all these new young tech billionaires and CEOs creating new industry would be of a better class than the ilk that came before them.

I wasnt expecting them to usher in all the worst and bleakest parts of our favourite sci fi’s and dystopian movies :man_facepalming: I thought they had heeded the warnings to circumnavigate those parts. Turns out they just said, oh thats cool, we could remake feudalism.

Mad-Hatter and Toddumptious clearly enjoyed the wrong scifi books/movies. If you expected cyperpunk, you would say, “Wow, I always thought these books were meant as a dystopian warning, but apparently they are used as a template to follow!”

I just wanted my hoverboards and flying Delorian :sob: Instead we just got Biff Tanner…

Which reminds me; screen writers and film makers more or less used Trump as the go to example of “do not let this kind of capitalist get in to power” for much of the 80s and 90s.

Who could forget President Koopa, though it is understandable if you purged the live-action Mario movie from your memory.

Bruce Springsteen has written a song

Did he just write Born in the U.S.A again but nobody had the heart to tell him he already wrote a song like that already?

Sorry I couldn’t resist the joke, I’ll go check it oot now

It’s not a threat, it’s a feature!

I fully agree with the sentiment, but the song is far from his best. I appreciate it’s hard to rhyme anything with “Minneapolis”, and “Renee Good” and “Alex Pretti” aren’t much easier - but Bruce has a lot of help available. It wouldn’t have hurt to have crafted this into something less amateur sounding.

In the wake of the Kent State shootings, Crosby Stills and Nash released “Ohio” - and that was one hell of a song. It got its message across, to some extent, because it was well written, and competently arranged.

Okay, big rant coming, apologies…

I kept seeing bots and trolls say Alex Pretti died by Fafo under every youtube post or video covering the story, and Google auto translating it to “for a foreigner” for some reason and i honestly couldnt understand it.

Turns out theyre just regurgitating the latest tiktok trend word that fits the weird cruel world they want to exist in.

As someone who has been minding kids for a long time and seen all approaches to parenting, this has a good aire of people talking out their arse. E.g the gentle parenting approach started A LOT longer than ten years ago. Thats just ridiculous right out the gate that they say it only started in the mid 2010s…

The school of hard knocks has only ever produced the worst kind of people as a side effect in my experience, they dont show kindness to others around them nor their community. Some kids overcome it and persevere but they are a small minority when you encounter that generation in the wild.

Ive seen some gentle approaches take the piss though, and its usually the same kind of person who is competitive with everything so they rush to be more gentle, most gentle, the “best” gentle than all the other parents, and not take the actual child into consideration, and that parent is usually like that because they got rough and neglectful raising as a child. Theyve missed the forest for the trees entirely and everything is a winning game where they have to prove their worth to the distant parent that still inhabits their subconcious.

Any extreme approach to parenting wether extreme hard or extreme soft, is going to mess any child up long term. Every child is different too, this fafo approach is the kind that causes parents to overlook the fact a child may have behavioural issues or underlying psychological or neurological issues.

What a child needs is education and understanding, a parent who can listen and instill some sense of community and responsibility into a child. Throwing an ipad out a window or locking them outside just creates traumatic memories. And filming it and putting it online is a level of shame i dont think i would have survived as a child. Tbh thats genuine abuse.

What you need to do is find out why your child isnt satisfied and wants to run away, why its glued to its ipad (guess what, thats your fault for not setting boundary times for screen activity early on) etc. You need to pay careful attention to what draws their interest and have them focus on that, sign them up for social activities or aftwr school courses that cater to it and encourage them and help them see areas where they can improve instead of just clapping gleefully that they did a thing and theyre great. The parent who says they dont have time for it or are too busy with work shows their hand, you have a community around you, you should have friends or neighbours that can step in and help in moments youre not available. If you don’t then you have to do some introspection and realise maybe youre broken and have fucked up somewhere surely.

Im an anxious nervous shy prick but I still know if I need aid there are people who will help out if you just ask tjem.

Sorry, this stuff really annoys me, any severe approach with zero nuance applied is just lazy parents looking to shift the blame. Have fun raising a child that fears you and will never trust you and probably rebel irresponsibly into severe drinking habits or drug addictions.

I have plenty of friends with crippling habits that were raised in a “fafo” environment and none of it was ever going to prepare them for a cost of living crisis where a living wage is hard to come by and everyone now having some form of college education to the point none of it means shit when applying for a job that isnt PHD based.

Kids are anxious today? Nothing to do with a gentle parenting approach that supposedly only began ten years ago. Everything to do with the fact that we are all anxious about whats happening in the world the last ten years, everything to do with how everyone is struggling, people with kids cant get on the property ladder, still in their parents house where tensions are high etc. This article doesnt even take environment into account at all.

I had a ten year old tell me hes afraid that the wall they built around their house isnt tall enough to stop someone coming in and attacking his mom and he doesnt know if he’ll be able to help her, recently on the walk back from school.

Kids are just as fearful as we are by the hate and rumor mill thats been regurgitated ad nauseum by the media around us and those in power who would happily do so.

I agree. Some parts work, some do not. Sounds thrown together.

and I hear you @toddumptious . I have a friend who fosters up to 6 kids at a time. I feel for kids these days.

Bruce certainly rushed it out and says as much right out the gate with it being written, recorded and released in about three days.

Theres one man who does this every week for years now and I think maybe Bruce could’ve called him in for assistance
