Cloudy and wet here, so no chance to see it.
Crew-12 - Return
Re-entry about to happen, currently blackout. Wishing them a soft splashdown and good return
Main chutes deployed and healthy (nominal).
And splashdown, welcome back home indeed!
Only a minute delay on arrival, eh? Can’t complain I guess ![]()
oh yea, happy space week everyone!
I thought that first image of the parachutes was going to be an ad for Cornetto Ice Cream and it’s three iconic variants as the image first started to scroll up.
They typically appear in triplicate against a blue background.
My second thought was cupcake photography.
Also cant resist an opportunity to reference the Cornetto Trilogy
Was adding some maritime images to my post further up. Now found Shannon, further up north.
Never really checked before, but it’s Interesting to see what all is around in the area.

This is not at all surprising, since the wage gap is not due to conscious gender bias - It’s due to gender bias inherent in the historical data from which salaries are calculated.
Setting a wage that is competitive enough to attract good people, but not so far above the market standard that you’re bleeding money where you don’t have to, is not so easy. Employers therefore rely on 3rd-party services that calculate competitive salaries for various branches, and they do that based on algorithms that use pretty much all historical data available. They have a predictive component, but that’s also mostly extrapolation of recent data.
And since gender is still a component of the criteria according to which a salary is calculated, and Women had historically lower salaries than men, for both reasons unjust and justifiable - historically, women had less work experience than men at the same age, for example, but were also considered inferiour workers in general. The first one is a legitimate reason for a lower salary, the second one is not for most jobs, and is probably completely backwards for some jobs - in the data it just all averages out into a lower salary for women in general.
This could be overcome relatively easily by just making gender not a selectable criterium in the algorithms - and if this could be done without any knock-on effects, it probably would have been by now. The problem is, of course, if they just do that now, women’s salaries will go up, while male salaries will go down, and they’ll meet in the middle. Fair, but there would be a whole lot of hell raised by nearly everybody, so nobody wants to be the one to start.
In any case, since AI was trained on the same data, it will have the same bias. Something would have been very weird if it didn’t.
Hello Games did space travel is similar to this, time travel and 16 billion light years from earth too what LoL.
Me: Watches video.
Wife: OMG WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN? I thought you were dead when you vanished 4 years ago! We had a funeral and everything! Your life insurance was payed out! This is going to be such a pain in the ass!
That’s an impressive demo (if actually real), and I’m pretty sure I’d have lost my shit if I was there, like I lose it at any great circus number. But that’s what this is. A great circus number (really great, though). And I can see as much practical use for it in everyday life as I can see for any circus number…
Still, I guess it can be a valuable performance boost when chasing criminals. And it’s super-compressed air, so you probably need a turbo pump to get it into the tank. Let’s call it a “Turbo Boost”. In a talking, self-driving car. Hmmmmm…
A person could save the world with all the money being pumped into useless cool stuff
I’m assuming it is real with people in the audience also posting vids but who knows any more.
The creators are the victims of their creations.
Here’s Ars Technica with a bit more info & just a hint of snark:
Now we just gotta wait for purple stars to get added to reality
Hello Games (and us) had thought that green stars were Sci-Fi, but maybe no..
but do they dream of electric sheep?
I find this pretty interesting and I agree it looks off. The curvature on the shuttle does not help with this either of course. Having looked at some other 360 views and 3D model views, the viewing angle appears to make a difference as well.
I had my doubts for the s to actually be up-side-down. I initially blamed the viewing angle with the curvature and most likely use of a single stencil for the full name. Using separate stencils for each letter I considered unlikely, as it would make it a lot harder to get consistent results. However, after having seen various views of both sides in images, 3d models, 360 views, and detailed examination of the font, I changed my mind. I find too many inconsistencies in both sides to consider a single full name stencil (copied/duplicated). I now believe they very likely used single letter stencils, where they may have actually made one or more mistakes. Not to mention the not so great spraypaint job done with the overspray visible.
Either way, one things is for sure… I can’t unsee this anymore!
