In game terms, it could have really large impact of there were two Atlas entities and the two became an over all faction. Not like the NPC mission/rep levels but a driving force to save/stop one or the other? Would be a big leap!
There is something in the water. Don’t drink the water.
There are infected nanites. They change things.
Abyss changes things. Abyss is in the water.
Yep, now we need ‘Abyss Filters’ in our bases.
But I wanna taste Abyssal fluid!
No. But really. Perhaps we’ll find out more about The Abyss in NEXT. Maybe we’ll see a somewhat physical interpretation of this. I’ve an idea for a sort of game-mode. Perhaps a base defence? Just ask me for details and I’ll see if i can get a post up and running for it. Still a newbie here though!
I totally forgot about that. This may have something to do with the audio we received for Element 5!
“Special Salvage crew performed cleanup operation on nanite infested abandoned buildings”
If so, this is insane! The nanites will start infecting stuff IN-GAME as we approach the 16.
Yes. I saw that movie. (The Abyss did take place in the water.)
Nooooo! Not my precious, cactus-facsimile base! What did I do to deserve this fate?
(Its probably the 500 times I picked the wrong dialogues on purpose to make NPCS/the atlas mad)
And we can imagine domes, to protect buildings, a city. In glass.
A world of glass…
Without having read all 88 posts above (even though I read a majority of them), I am sure that there are more NPCs in the game than what we have been exposed to as of yet.
Waking Titan, in it’s role of explaining the origin of No Man’s Sky and the role of us Travellers, has made it pretty clear that there are other forces at play here. I will mention just a few of these here
- Something hijacked Superlumina, and we have no idea who or what that was.
- Someone blew up Elizabeth Leighton, and we have no idea who or what that was.
- Someone disconnected Tariq and thereby killed him, and we have no idea who or what that was.
This last one is particularly interesting, since @Emily tried to speak to him, and he told her (and us) that there was someone else in charge, mocking Emily and us in our efforts to save the dreamers.
Also, in the Boundary Failure lore, in dialogue #14, Telamon tells us that "Physicality changes you. I was created three weeks after the first death. I do not know why I think of it now. They considered me a necessary, even vital part of what they were trying to accomplish. So much so that I could never be erased, not even by the Atlas. But hatred finds a way, doesn’t it?".
Some things here:
- Elizabeth is the first death, and about three weeks after, we had the protein puzzle leading to the code word Identity. Whether this signifies Telamon’s birth or not, well who knows, but it would be fitting if it were so.
- Notice how “They” and “Atlas” are mentioned in this text as two separate entities. Telamon says that it can never be erased, not by “them” and also not by “the Atlas”.
- “They” seem to be motivated by hate. Hatred finds a way, doesn’t it? Killing people knowingly, is most likely motivated by hate. So yeah…
For your first two bullet points we more or less know it was W/ARE…as for Tariq’s death…that wasn’t a murder…he died when we took down the servers compromised by W/ARE…we had about a full day’s notice that us screwing with those servers was messing him up when he went critical after we had the first two of five servers taken down.
Hmm not sure… I find it hard to believe that a hardware developer for video games would hijack a physics website with the following text
Controlling Information
Since beyond time we have consumed immense swaths of Knowledge and obtained untold power. We will come for your world as we have many others.
Join Our Crusade
By now it should be pretty clear the whole hardware game dev thing was more of a front than anything else…hardware game devs don’t perform experiments on people and keep going after poeple start dying…hardware game devs don’t have spies in other major AI focused companies. W/ARE were MUCH more than that.
I agree that WARE seems to be the “villain” here, but then why is it included in the authorized users for the data uplinks.
I’m sorry, but I seem to be stuck on who were they trying to find, or rather, who was corrupting the data?
If it wasn’t for Tariq’s comments I could believe he was acting rogue or the data was just being corrupted by an accidental crossover or feed from an innocent entity. By entity I mean someone or some group, or even some natural phenomena that caused the corruption and did so without malice.
Just a thought.
If there are two AIs, and they both think like AIs - i.e. utterly different from, and incomprehensible to, humans.
And if those two AIs have different visions of what the future should be - to the point where one is trying to destroy the other.
And if we keep in mind that they are AIs - that they don’t have the emotions, glands, bodies, or fears of humans.
Then how do they resolve their differences, so the result is the best outcome for all concerned?
And if one of those AIs is specifically designed to predict the future, and only became self-aware by accident, then how does that AI manage the situation for the best possible outcome?
As far as identity is concerned, it’s not really the main point whether or not W/ARE is used as a front for someone else with a hidden agenda, since the “enemy” would in that case be just that person or group who is doing that in the first place… we are hence still on square one, since we have no idea who would be creating or using W/ARE for his/her own purposes, with supposedly other (malign) reasons…
If it’s another AI or another human group, from this or another timeline, well - nobody knows - but it reeks of involvment from a so-far unknown entity imo…
We’re probably not going to get a lot of answers since I don’t think they’re looking to expand the story into something you could fill novels with, for now it looks like W/ARE are the bad guys and we had a solid hint that one of or both Elizabeth Leighton and/or Sophie Dubois were involved with W/ARE somehow. What this all means for the game and its upcoming story nobody knows but probably nothing…we’ll have like one or two points out of the whole ARG that actually tie into the game like last time but it’ll mostly be totally separate.
This is my thought, there isn’t enough time to “defeat” W/ARE, just the extraction event. So either Waking Titan will continue next year as we combat W/ARE more, or it will turn out it was all a misunderstanding and W/ARE isn’t bad.
I’d buy that book!
Edit: btw I think you guys are correct, there no more time to dwell deeper into who’s who anymore. But if HG is wanting to continue WT anytime in the future, then maybe this is intended actually…
Not all W/ARE is bad. Zheng wasn’t aware of human experiment:
Test subjects have been called in and the device has been used on them in ways that i could never condone 7 of them lost as we speak 3 of them are dead 8 are on the verge of being unrecoverable their intentions are not what we think they are actions should be taken to shut them down exit
But we don’t know if the head company is involved or not.
