Well, they safely caught 1 monkey. Only 42 to go!
It’s the last 12 that are the tricky ones. You’d know if you seen the movie. Brad Pitt and Bruce Willis, trying as hard as they might with the net and enticing bananas, just can’t catch those darn dozen monkeys.
One of us is remembering that film wrong…
You’re right. Todd’s being silly.
I believe Bruce just blew up the whole top of the building
And that’s the moment you realise 12 monkeys is a christmas movie I see you accidentally taped over 12 monkeys with Die Hard and possibly the tail end of Commando, too. I miss VHS
Yeah, maybe…
…because, the bit where the talking monkey was flying a Harrier Jump-Jet to save his daughter from the giant marshmallow man, all got a bit weird when the bunny rabbit pooped jelly beans & the white Dodge rammed the bulldozers & then Gargamel ran our of the porta-toilet upset about ‘bad magic’.
Did all seem a bit out of place.
I feel like I just read a complete review of the 90’s in 5 seconds
25 monkeys captured
Growing up with a fictional tv personality has been one of my favourite parts of life, always happy to see new Alan Partridge. Just finished the new Audiobook and my sides are in bits. It’s all behind a paywall so I thought I’d share one of my favourite moments from Alans most recent return to television…
Steve Coogan has family roots in Ireland so he get’s a pass on doing “irish-face”
there never was
it is all in our mind
But there are certainly shills and grifters, dude sold his own country out
When I see people like Sam Altman I always wonder, is Aaron Swartz rolling in his grave at the state of these Tech buffoons scrambling over money.
edit: derp, I actually came here to post a funny video XD
Hopefully folks here know who Charlie Brooker is…
This is a supercut of all the Philomena Cunk/ Barry Shitpeas segments from screenwipe, newswipe, yearly wipe, how tv ruined your life, cunk on britain, etc. So clips ranging from 2007 to 2022ish Specifically the segments where they discuss politics.
I hope they the editor does more supercuts of these two, when they talk to scientists about discoveries is one of my personal favourite themes for their segments.
Diane Morgan is a national treasure and UK’s greatest exports in recent memory <3
(watching this after posting it, holy crap time has aged well, russell brand in his “fighting for the people” phase, before the most recent sexual misconduct allegations and his sudden pivot to being the new Alex Jones. Speaking of shills XD )
Until now, I have avoided the rat’s nest that is social media. Steam discussions were bad enough.
But I must admit, you’ve got me tempted…
So far, very similar to twitter. As far as posting etc…
Ooh, please tell us when you see NMS migrate to a new site, and I’ll try if I can read the latest without being logged in. I like Sean, but not that much that I’d get a Xitter account.
Ah, so thats what bsky stands for. I’ve been pronouncing it as Busky, cos buskers. My country used to be run on Buskers. Not so much any more now that its corporatized and you can only play from a selection of legally sanctioned songs…
Curious as to what makes bsky a new and safe alternative. We’ve been here before, moving to a new social media site that hasn’t been infested by fringe lunatics yet. What’s to stop the same cycle from happening again? It’s only a matter of time before someone doesn’t check their shoes and drags crap in all over the place.
So I’m hoping any new social media site would have failsafes and protectiosn in mind to stop it becoming a cesspool… But I also see finances overriding any such measures that might be in place when more investors come on board and they want to see “more users with longer engagement time.” Thats when this things tend to fall apart.
Don’t mean to be pessimistic but it feels like we’re doomed to repeat history, and enough time hasn’t even passed for us to have reasonably forgotten the mistakes of the past. They’ve happened several times in the last ten years '
I was day dreaming about a morality Captcha. Instead of ticking the boxes with the traffic lights you have to tick the appropriate boxes that show hate speech/crimes etc and then also include red herrings like cops forcing a vaccine injection in an alleyway, just dumb stuff the far-right or “liberals” fear and will instantly fail the morality captcha for.
They’d find a way around it I’m sure but it’s some sort of measure in the right direction. Like just some signifier so you know the person spouting nonsense and infuriating you with their backwards speech, is actually just a teenager or grown-up gobsh**e who doesn’t know what they’re talking about, you can let your blood unboil and go about your day.
Because that’s what I find myself thinking these days after responding to a bad take online… I responded as if I was talking to a peer or someone of a similar age, when in reality that could’ve been some dumb kid, and in real life you have visual confirmation that puts your mind at ease and removes your desire to engage. We don’t have that ability online. But I think we need it in some form. Which i also recognise is an impossible thing to reach. Show me one generation that has successfully kept their teens out of the liquor cabinet… And needing age verification for internet use seems a bit, antithetical, to the purpose of the internet.
So the only real true measure is making sure education remains strong and media literacy is hammered into their heads before they get online, before they get indoctrinated and before they start making a game out of some very serious real life stuff. Trump looks set to undo that and Elon Musk looking very happy to facilitate a breeding ground for it… I wish you guys all the luck, for the sake of modern decency across the globe.
(Fun fact: the first goal of a ReCAPTCHA is to provide free human-annotated training materials for visual machine learning (text recognition and image detection). It uses ten other methods to detect whether you are human or not…) :-p
Take a breath @toddumptious
People are leaving X due to Musk himself.
As for what you see on blusky, it is the same as other sites. It’s all in who you choose to follow. Look and think before pressing the follow button and then remember, you can always unfollow
Thanks for the reminder, things have gotten quite manic lately and the energy is being expelled through my fingers it seems
I miss those old captchas that had words you were helping identify as part of a crowd sourced digitisation effort of archiving old books. I guess the text recognition got to the point they no longer need their army of passive interns </3 I still wanna help robot learn read good better
