In case you have an Xbox and want to try Starfield for cheap
According to the memo, Walmart is going to mark down physical copies of Starfield from $69.99 to $0.03 starting Monday, January 22. A “point of sale block” is planned to go into effect that same day, meaning customers will not be able to actually purchase the game. However, it’s possible some could get lucky and manage to snag Starfield for next to nothing regardless of the point of sale block. In any case, the plan is to gather copies of Starfield and dispose of them by Monday, February 5.
Not sure exactly how WM disposes of such things…
Poking my head out from enshrouded and Palworld (why did i take on two survival/crafting games at once?!) to share this post Hello Games retweeted, looks fun!
Younger me used to catch all the press confs live with friends on MSN messenger during E3 or TGS season etc and I’d say that remained true up until only a few years ago.
These days I always seem to be hearing about them the day after they’ve happened but here is the latest from Sonys State of Play, link includes the live broadcast or a quick handy rundown of everything shown.
Edit: I wasn’t expecting modern day Konami to give Silent Hill 2 the thought and care it deserves but wow, I wasn’t expecting something that tonally unfamiliar either. The game that tried to be anything but Resident Evil is now getting the RE2:remake treatment '^_ ^ (great remake, but not silent hill)
Well thats… not something thats happened before right? '^_ ^
*whole community stands laughing nervously waiting for some sort of answer that makes sense *
Maybe Nintendo annihilated HG for supporting Palworld the same way Israel is destroying the careers of Irish CEO’s with american connections for supporting Gaza XD
What the hell is palworld and why’s nintendo interested in it? ![]()
They basically made every nineties kids dream Pokemon game, made the characters reminiscent of five Pokemon at once so your nostalgia goes into confusion overdrive and they just called em Pals and added guns and some questionable animal cruelty and slave labour practices with what is one of the strangest localisations to the English language I’ve come across.
Up until its release, it’s appearance in steam discovery queues just felt like, Chinese game company cash grab knock off.
Turns out the brave fellows are Japanese. Based in Tokyo. Nintendo don’t even need to bother with international law on this one.
What took everyone by surprise is, it wasn’t shovelware or half assed. They made an honest to good, solid and well optimised game that went into early access in January.
What’s more is, this little game people assumed was gonna be a nothing,
Sold 7 million copies in its first week and became the second game in steam history to have 2 million concurrent players.
You wanna bet Nintendo are paying attention now.
There’s piles of evidence they copied actual Pokemon Company 3d models though so the game that everyone loves could disappear soon for a while, then reappear with new designs.
A recent blog post by the studios lead might have accidentally given more weight to this evidence. He mentions it was everyones first 3d game and they didn’t even know what rigging was and nobody on team had ever done animation.
I know when I’m learning new things I take apart and rebuild what others have done to get to grips with it.
I absolutely believe some of their staff may have been phoning in the homework a little.
All that aside, it’s a great game and all I’ve heard from Pokemon fans who own a PC is, gamefreak have been taking the piss with their last few gens and they’re happy someone finally made a good Pokemon game cos maybe now gamefreak will get off their laurels.
All I’ve heard from Pokemon fans who only own Nintendo stuff and not a PC is, those meanies must be stopped look what they’re doing to pikachumerism
You mean, more than Pokemon? I have trouble thinking up a way you could make that worse…
Less cute and more up front about it. It’s a survival game so if yr hungry maybe you cook and eat Pikachu in front of its friends. Oh and Charmander will do the cooking at the firepit cos hes a fire type.
It’s great because they’ve gone down a road I don’t think Nintendo can follow because of Pokemons branding.
I like to joke it’s the repression Japan feels as a nation as they’re asked to decrease whaling and dolphin whatevering. That’s why Palworld is full of animal cruelty and actively encourages you to poach from wildlife sanctuarys.
I haven’t played it this much yet but a friend informs me you can eventually catch humans in Pokeballs and sell them so there’s another nintendon’t, human trafficking ![]()
Also even though Palworld has its own names for things like Pokeballs and Pokemon, everybody playing the game is calling them Pokeballs and Pokemon. I think that’s gonna work in Nintendo’s favour should palworld try and use parody law.
I’ve never been more excited for IP infringement in all my life *grabs five bags of popcorn *
Palworld player here with about 30-ish hours into it. (Didnt play multiplayer since i heard its not fleshed out yet)
Sorry quicksilver thread
but I just want to add that Palworld is actually a lot of fun.
I think “Pokemon with guns” doesn’t paint a good picture of what the game really is because only a very small number of Pals can actually use a gun. It also, to me, makes it seam like your getting a cashgrab assetflip game where they copied pokemon and threw guns on them but its not. Really, its a mild survival and exploration game and its mainly only you, the player, using the guns and the human NPCs so if anything, its more like “Ark Survival with Pokemon” but its not Ark and its not Pokemon. Its carved its own identity and it doesnt feel like a mishmash of features, it actually feels like they cared about what they were making and thought it out well.
As an early access game, it has a lot to do and its not as buggy as early access games usually tend to be but worth noting that the game is unfinished, there is no ending right now and a part of the map is not currently accessable and the devs said they are currently prioritising the A.I. of the pals.
You can capture humans, but each time you do, it says its inhumane to capture people and you can get a wanted status if you do it in front of the authorities in the game and so far it seems that they have no special perks to using them as replacements for pals and the people don’t really have any unique icons as pals do, its just a generic dark hooded figure. Seems like its a feature that isn’t fully fleshed out yet, but it is funny to do a few times. Lol.
As for the rest of the game, its as if your playing Ark on easy PvE settings but all the creatures and aesthetics were replaced with a pokemon/nintendo aesthetic and instead of taming creatures, you capture them in pal spheres. And instead of your creatures dying in battle, they go back into a pal sphere where they can be healed back to life at your base. And instead of everything trying to kill you like in typical survival games, most of the creatures seem to leave you alone unless you attack first. Some will attack on sight, and the bad NPCs will too. And instead of the typical grind that survival games have, many things can be automated so the grind isn’t as tedious as other survival games. The map is actually huge and there are hidden little goodies seemingly around every corner to encourage exploration and curiosity.
Overall, even in its early access state, and all the hype, made up drama for views… I recommend it. Its a good game.
This is the Palworld topic now until the quicksilver store fixes itself (assumingly not updated because everyone at HG is trying to complete their Paldex). Or we get moved to “Games and Game Related” ![]()
ChinPokePals Spam
I’ve been having a great time even just relaxing or watching Pals relax in the game
Ark with Pokemon is definitely a better descriptor than Pokemon with Guns
edit: We’ve Landed
Thanks Dev!
@toddumptious , @jedidia , and @Jupiter.blues:
I know Sean started this, but the resulting discussion better fits over here. I can also imagine this discussion taking off even further, so strap those seat belts!
To add my own two cents on the Pal/Poke situation, obviously ‘influenced’, but even Nintendo will think twice suing for infringement.
Thank you DevilinPixy lol.
keeping things clean.
I have to say that Ark and Palworld are definitely very different because its tailored to different kinds of players despite both being survival type games.
Ark(on official settings) encourages multiplayer by having the players do all the grind and making it faster to grow your base and gear if you have more players in your tribe doing the work, so playing solo takes forever to get anywhere unless you have your own server and change the settings.
It also prevents you from learning all the crafting engrams to encourage you to find someone else who has the craftable engram unlocked and either trading or having someone in your tribe agree to unlock the things you aren’t able to anymore.
Palworld allows you to learn everything eventually and you dont need to find friends when you have the Pals to help do the work for you.
As for creature breeding for better stats, Ark’s is terrible and tedious and can take you literally months to breed a creature to have your desired stats. Palworld is so much easier and so much quicker.
A friend gifted me Palworld on steam after the gamepass trial ran out. <3
I think I have survival game fatigue now cos I was also playing Enshrouded, so might wait a while before starting a whole new char in palworld and getting back to where I was.
Speaking of Enshrouded, I wasn’t expecting it to be this deep. This greedy.

Chapter 1 : It Doesn’t Need A Sequel.
This was my exact feelings after playing the first game.
What a beautiful and perfect ending to the first game.
You get so much from one single nod and you can kinda tell where it may or may not go after that point, and was some good mental floss to toss around.
The possibility of messing it all up with a sequel was so high, right up until release I was saying “we dont need this, but sure I can’t stop em and of course I gotta see where they take it next, but I’m so worried, I cant look!”.
Then they went and made a better, stronger game that brought me through one of the most conflicting and painful gameplay experiences of my life. To watch Ellie give in to vengeance while Abby was coming out of it, tore me in two. By the end I thought fuck, Ellie needs to die, and abbys gotta do it, and I think I’m okay with this… She’s left her no choice.
Still half way through the making of but really enjoying this vid so far <3 Especially hearing how Joel originally died/the game opened and seeing the teams reaction </3
So im about 40-ish hours into Palworld.
Some details, things I found out and some theories:
Its still a ton of fun even in early access and I still recommend it to people if you want to have some fun. but after you start to explore the majority of the map, you start to notice where the game is definitely not finished at and where future content is “likely” to be added.
Much of the starting area of Palworld is beautifully crafted. Nearly every tree, rock, mountain, waterfall, river, etc. looks like it was purposefully placed. But the further you explore out beyond the beginning of the game, you can see where the ground is missing foliage, levels of detail, some baren areas, and several ruins that are very large and cool to check out even though they are mostly empty.
Theory on future content/the empty places on the map:
So the game was entirely redone in Unreal Engine. The game was originally built in Unity and all previous trailers were in Unity as well. Apparently Palworld’s CEO did a long message to the community and essentially talked about how the game was made and how the game direction changed and they rebuilt Palworld from the ground up in Unreal Engine because Unit U wasn’t going to get the job done for the scope they have on mind and they all knew nothing about UE except for this 1 guy they hired that taught the whole team and now here we are with Palworld in early access with several missing features from previous trailers.
I think that the “ruins” in the game might actually be placeholder locations for the cities/castles/towns/settlements that are shown in the original trailers. And the current only permanent settlement(at least I haven’t found any other yet) looks sort of like beat down wooden shacks with some NPCs you can buy from. So those might get an update too.
There are supposed to be floating cities too. Currently that’s not present but you can sort of tell “where” that is supposed to be in the game based on the area on the ground.
Apparently there is supposed to be a whole story mode where you get to side with a faction and work with the good guys or the bad guys but that’s currently not present and im not sure if that is still going to happen but the developers said the game is only about half finished so there is a long way to go.
Im definitely looking forward to more of this game ![]()
Sooo… the scope creep during development was so epic that they needed to rewrite the game halfway through? Haven’t heard that one since star citizen… ![]()
Really looking forward to some of the first few items mentioned in their road map. Specifically the ability to bring your character/pals to other players palworlds.
I have 2 playthroughs on XB Gamepass Version, one in a friends world and one for my solo play when they are offline. My gamepass trial ran out and another friend gifted me a steam copy.
I now have one fresh playthrough on my friends palworld but I’m a bit survival world fatigued from 3 palworld games and 2 enshrouded characters that I can’t bring myself to start a new character with new pals again for my solo steam play.
The other things i’m excited for that should come along with player character migration is trading with friends and the addition of a PVP arena for Pokemon Pal battles
Also learned the hard way that landing on a nature reserve, leads to teleporting cops who never stop pursuing you, until you are dead '^ _ ^ would like to see that get fleshed out soon too. Just so I can have the option to evade and hide.
I have a feeling the next time you hear of that one, it will be about Star Citizen again XD
Yea they guy basically openly admitted to their studio not being very good(I think he was referring to their skills as a game developing company, the translation isn’t very good) and that scope being too large and that the original palworld trailers were done with source code from their other game Craftopia and several of the animations and assets were just bought. Correct me if im wrong but I think he was trying to say that this was done to get attention to get funding for the game but that it was hard to do so and Unity was becoming a bottleneck for them.
I can see how this sounds like Starcitizen but atleast the Palworld devs said that the game is a little more than half done in its current state. Meanwhile, Starcitizen wont tell you how far they have to go because perpetual “development” and selling ships you cant even use in-game makes more money than a full release. ![]()
Edit: I think what they showed in their original videos is totally doable. The mechanics are nothing that hasnt already been done before in other games either.
