Although it has been in the works for a long time already, and likely going to take quite a while longer, I still follow The Starry Expanse Project for their Riven remake (realRiven). I had totally forgotten about their April Fools’ demo, but was reminded of it with their latest Game Guide post. You can still download it and have a go at it (link near the top), before reading further into it and spoil yourself ![]()
But did you realise what she got up to at ballet class… ![]()
This is actually impressive. I like how the simplicity and sparseness of the stage turns the frivolous mystery of Pokemon into something almost culturally important, perhaps more so than the colourful world Pokemon normally portrays. Then again some might also wish to debate that even the Spice Girls are culturally important…
I guess you’ll next tell me you were forced to make a Pokemon tutu lol.
You reminded me of this. Perhaps you meant to. ![]()
Who is this God Person Anyway? is the third installment in a trilogy written by Oolon Colluphid. The other books in the trilogy are Where God Went Wrong and Some More of God’s Greatest Mistakes . Colluphid continued his theme with Well That About Wraps It Up For God (which centres its argument upon the babel fish).
Colluphid’s ‘philosophical blockbusters’ are less controversial than that wholly remarkable book, The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy.
The cover of Who is this God Person Anyway? features the Pope (from planet Earth, galactic Sector ZZ9 Plural Z Alpha), with the top of his croizer shaped into a question mark.
I really need to write a memorable book and send it to two of the Universe’s fiercest critics Oolon Colluphid and @Polyphemus for a review ![]()
I can’t resist adding more wonderful nonsense by Douglas Adams because the following quote always makes me chuckle.
“Now it is such a bizarrely improbable coincidence that anything so mind-bogglingly useful could have evolved purely by chance that some thinkers have chosen to see it as the final and clinching proof of the non-existence of God.
The argument goes something like this: “I refuse to prove that I exist,'” says God, “for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing.”
“But,” says Man, “The Babel fish is a dead giveaway, isn’t it? It could not have evolved by chance. It proves you exist, and so therefore, by your own arguments, you don’t. QED.”
“Oh dear,” says God, “I hadn’t thought of that,” and promptly vanishes in a puff of logic.
“Oh, that was easy,” says Man, and for an encore goes on to prove that black is white and gets himself killed on the next zebra crossing.”
Douglas Adams is probably, the best writer in the Universe that ever evolved from a fish. With faith I can only pray for more people like that. ![]()
Nintendo E3 Highlights
Other big news
And this one because it is the only FF game I have never been able to beat
And I will add this one just because The Dark Crystal is such a cult fave around here
Wife has been able to beat them all. lol
Good for her. Not sure why I got hung up on the final boss battle in 8, but that was years ago…
Remaster may give me a reason to try again. Has she played FF Tactics? It was one of my favorites!
I don’t know for sure, it was one of her favorite games to play.
But wait where is Hello Games???*
Well, so we don’t all feel left out. I thought we could make up some of our own much needed hype to add to the wild rumours and fuel our anticipation … (As if we haven’t enough already)*![]()
Considering Squares track records with remasters and ports of final fantasy games, I’m a bit worried by this. Have you seen the machine learning tools the modding community has been using to remaster the pre rendered backgrounds for 7, 8 and 9? It’s incredible stuff, leaps and bounds beyond what anyone has done by hand over the years, such a shame it was common practice for japanese gaming studios to delete source code and files back in the 90’s, would give away both my legs to have those original hi-res pre-rendered backgrounds but this is definitely the closest we’ve gotten to em.
Would love to see this done with the 90’s blade runner adventure game <3
FFvii is my most memorable final fantasy game as it was the first one to make it to the UK & Ireland, but IX is hands down my favourite, especially the music (Nobuo Uematsu is a personal idol of mine <3 )
Still unsure of the ff7 remake. While it looks incredible, the fact the first part will end with leaving midgar worries me, since its far from the midway point of the game. I don’t think we’re going to get to explore the world, I don’t think any of the side areas and stories will be present, looks like it will just hit the key story beats and probably transport you to new places via cutscenes like the more recent final fantasy games have done. A shame but this is the impression I’m getting from the recent announcements. It will be great to see the story retold though and I can’t wait and I always have FF7 on PSX/PS3 and PC (w/mods) if I need to explore the world via chocobo or highwind.
Sorry bout below post, was meant to add as edit to this
To be fair, that final boss fight was an absolute marathon and quite difficult. Ultimecias Castle was cold and cruel… I can’t believe that was 21 years ago. I was 11 years old and once I finally beat Ultimecia, I found myself doing it over and over and over again just to see that ending and hear the music that accompanied it throughout
While we wait for BEYOND…
After spending so much time sitting in the hospital, I came to realize just how nice it is to have quality mobile app games available. The problem is, of course, finding the quality ones.
So I thought I would list a few of my favorites.
This was my first ever mobile app game. It is still one of my favorites.

This was my second mobile app game
This one I am currently working on. It is not yet complete. More chapters are coming starting in August.

Pretty much everything from the Trese Brothers is pretty good if you’re into RPG-Strategy hybrids. If Templar Battleforce came out in the early 90ies, it could have taken on Xcom and Jagged Alliance in a fair fight. And the new Star Traders: Frontiers is the best RPG I’ve played in a loooong time on PC (now also available on mobile, though a tablet is pretty much mandatory), if you like story-light, character skill driven open world strategy RPGs.
For those interested (and I know some of you are), Astroneer is featured in the current Steam summer sale, at 25% off the original price.
Not much, I know. But it might be enough to tip some over the edge.
Shock horror!!! Naughty boy!!!
'Uncouples @Polyphemus ’ photonix drive and sends him off into a black hole in the 128th galaxy. ![]()
I have very few apps on my little cheap tablet because there is very little memory and I don’t spend much time with it. So I have to be choosy and of those lucky enough to pass my ‘quality control’, I found these amusing. You might like them @sheralmyst if you enjoy Machinarium . They all were ‘free’ to download and the ads were not irritating last time I tried playing them… which was a while ago.
Hocus is quite fun if you’re caught in the rain or waiting for the kettle to boil ![]()
I’ve linked them all here on the Google Playstore for everyone, so just click on any picture.
I will check them out, thanks!
I usually am able to avoid the ads by tethering from my phone to my tablet and once the game has loaded, I turn off the tethering. It does not work with every game as some require constant connection. But, it is worth a try.
Is anyone thinking of joining the pre release for Before We Leave? I see @CobraTV is in the discord. I am involved in several pre releases right now…not sure I want to join another. Knowing BEYOND will likely have bugs to work through as well…how many can 1 person devote time to. I just really like the idea behind BWL. Looks fun.
The release date for Rebel Galaxy Outlaw has just been announced for August 13 2019 (Yep. Next month!). Mal and I have both been waiting for this one. It is exclusive for its first year on the new Epic Games platform:
In the meantime we are playing Starbound (which we got as a steam early access game. Also, Astroneer, which has come a long way since its early access. And of course still bopping about in the No Man’s Sky multiverse --still in the NEXT version, at least until the whole thing implodes on us again. (sigh). Not as invested anymore, though.
So check out Rebel Galaxy Outlaw. Main character is female. NIce for a change. <3
