I’ve been playing Cyberpunk 2077 since yesterday. It’s uncannily similar to Deus Ex. That’s not a bad thing - I thought the Deus Ex games were some of the best I’ve ever played. I fact, the one thing I found annoying about the Deus Ex games was the small quest maps - so you couldn’t explore the game world - only the small part your current task involved. Cyberpunk doesn’t do that - it’s free roaming - you can go anywhere. And whilst the map doesn’t cover the same area of terrain that the Witcher maps did, Night City has lots and lots of levels - from sub-basements to skyscrapers, and it’s all there to explore.

It was a bit of a learning curve, but now I’m loving it. Highly recommended.

Wait, that game came out already? I had no idea!

I know, it was easily missed. But one or two news providers have mentioned it, nevertheless. You obviously need to keep track of specialist information sources.

Just a word of caution, apparently Cyberpunk looks just awful on PS4 and XBox 1

I can’t speak for consoles, but the PC version got a huge patch yesterday. I haven’t noticed any difference, but mine was working fine to begin with.

CD Projekt Red are clearly responding to customer’s feedback with some enthusiasm.

I believe console also received a patch.

In a follow on from my interest in playing Assasins Creed Valhalla I ended up buying it.

I’m truly enjoying this game with the map being so big & countless ruins to explore, once you reach ancient England. The graphics are lovely & glitches are quite rare. Very immersive on a quite nights game session.
There are so many variations on how to tackle raids & sneaky burglaries & the blending of all terrain interactions is near seamless.
Castles, (with dungeons) & some villages are quite large & present all manner of puzzle situations & variables on how to ‘acquire’ the loot.
Combat is relatively simple yet balanced so that there is always a risk & some foes so ‘boss’-like, you really need to calculate your decisions. Sometimes backing out is the smart option but is easily done.
Exploration really is key to upping your character’s skills & strengths, which has lead me all over the map, which I’m yet to find the borders of.
So far, I’m loving it. Ticks a ton of boxes for me.
Good game. 9 out of 10.

My wife, my teenager & myself each had a decent run on Death Stranding but all found it very slow going.

The graphics are stunning & the storyline is deep & kind of engrossing in its weirdness.
Huge vistas, nicely detailed sci-fi environments & interesting futuristic technology are good fun eye candy, with wear & tear a somewhat ironic stroke of realism, when set into a quite bizarre storyline environment.
It looks great & plays pretty much glitch free on a base level PS4.
(It was a bit hard to adapt to Norman Reedus’s visage as the main character, if like me you’ve endured a family of Walking Dead fanatics but the likeness is very well executed).

The invasive, repetitive cut scenes during deliveries & other interactions become annoying, plus the gameplay itself is dragged out into a tedious mind numbing chore if you try to rush it.
I loved the wandering & exploring while playing apocalyptic postman as the world is beautiful in its immersion. Choosing online access adds more ‘life’ but I prefered the off-line play myself.
Fight scenes are relatively simple & many missions can be accomplished by stealth.
It’s like the game was supposed to be a spooky but relaxed open word sci-fi experience, that somehow got mired down in the complexities of how the fantastical entities need to be dealt with. That’s where it just got grindy & annoying. Later on, you get some better equipment to make life easier but the interactions still feel slow & awkward. I also found the UI a bit unnecessarily complex but it certainly looks cool
Fight/escape scenarios are slow & I found them frustrating, plus I’m not a big fan of ‘boss’ characters. The NPC interactions bordered on painful after a while.
There is a ton of ‘fluff’ in the way much of the story unfolds via cut scenes but that is ok given the very weird storyline that requires some concentration to follow.

For me, I just got sick of the cumbersome feel to the way the game plays out, which sadly outweighed the beautifully immersive graphics, to the point none of us ended up finishing the entire game.

So I’d give it a 6 out of 10.
A fantastic looking & immersive game that was let down by the slow & grindy nature of how it plays.

I played the game knowing full-well what im getting into. Each time I played it, I played it with the correct mind-set…

…this is a Hideo Kojima game. Lol. He’s going to be deep, chaotically artistic and cinematic.

So I kicked my feet up, sipped on some tea, had a plate full of snacks near me and took my time with the game. It was slow-moving, true, and it somehow “works” for the game but at the same time it doesnt. I think the reason for this is that a large part of the game(specially the first half) is to make you “feel” that your in this destroyed, lonely, world, the eerie feeling that your alone in a world you dont understand, a world that feels like humanity is near-extinct and hanging by a thread to live and that someone is watching you(cause there are). It wants you to discover the history of what happened to the world the same way you would if you, the player, were really living in it. Buuuuuut it spends too much time allowing the average player to take it all in. We are used to having the story/action scenes closer together so it feels odd to go on for so long between major action/story points. On top of that, the bigger action and major story parts happen quite far into the game. Maybe about half way through and beyond. That’s when the game dips in-and-out of feeling like your in Death Stranding and, in these “sorta” flashback/mind-trip memories that you begin to experience, go from cut-scenes in the early game to “actual” somewhat frantic shooter gameplay and suddenly your in a nightmare call-of-duty game that you have to fight to wake up.

Also, the game doesn’t really tell you in typical game fashion that you HAVE to go make connections to make the game more exciting. Its hinted as you progress in the game though. When you do the deliveries, specially the odd and difficult ones, you unlock more and more interesting tools, vehicles, bonuses, clothes, hats, cut-scenes, weapons, easter egg items, and more. the cut scenes and emails you get contain subtle hints also to locations where you can find interesting things for those that like exploration.

Personally, I liked the game. I put many hours into it. Exploring feels like your a real explorer in this world(something I enjoy in real life when I hike) and the views are wonderful. The story is mysterious and left you with many questions after answering only a few of the main ones but I love mystery so that’s fine for me. However, I do admit that there should be a bit more things to do/action scenes at a few places where you have to deliver or pick things up in the first half. The surprise ones are nice changes of pace but I think if there was a few more it would be perfect. There are some areas I explored into where I said, “oooooo, there is definitely going to be a fight scene here or some major plot point happening here at some point” only to find out that the main story line didn’t address these areas but instead it is addressed in a side quest that lead to something sometimes interesting(like lore, a cut scene, cool items, a real human coming outside) or sometimes just a form of a new skin or some person that ended up upset with you and tells you to never come back again.

Overall, I hope there is a part 2, just add a bit more action before sending me back on a long journey, alone, with all the crazies and freaky things.

I give it a 7/10(but a 9/10 when things are happening) lol

Well, as of Christmas, we, (my household), will be trying out Cyberpunk on base level PS4, which given the controversy surrounding glitches & playability should be very interesting.
I know it looks & plays amazing on PC & I already know that it has serious issues on old-gen consoles but I’ve avoided most spoilerish info so I can approach it with an open mind.
NMS had some messy issues upon release but I was instantly addicted anyway & subsequently sunk a huge number of hours into it over its various updates.

I’ll write a ‘review’ after I’ve dropped some time into it. Should be interesting…

Even on PC, it’s still pretty buggy (think Bethesda games). So far I haven’t come across anything absolutely game-breaking, but there have been a few times I’ve had to load an old save.

For me, it’s worth a bit of instability to have access to a game world of such scope and scale. I can see why older consoles would stuggle with it, though - there’s just so much going on.

I believe CDPR intend to release a patch in the new year that will improve performance on consoles (although I get the impression that the price will be a reduction in graphics quality).

I’m still playing Warframe, which is like playing a whole new game every two weeks to a month.

But I will be getting Hades, which looks awesome. And I appreciate the folks that created the Transistor series. Probably will get it on the switch.

Anyone else playing Hades?

Good , I rather finish Deus Ex first then. I have enough games where I sneak around and murder everybody, I don’t feel I need CP right now.

I keep reading about a scandalous release and complaints and refunds? Okay, the mega pixelated graphics on old PlayStations are a reason for a refund. But the rest of the game seemed fully playable (from what I could tell from watching streams)…?

There were bugs like NPCs stuck in walls, and very few times it crashed and the player had to restart - but I didn’t see anything game breaking. In other words, it had fewer bugs and missing features than NMS, :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: so I wonder, how bad can it be?

@Polyphemus , did you encounter any blockers?
