You have no foresight…I mean everyone expected this…right? :joy:
It is your companion…so hilarious. But all jokes aside, how much does it hold?

That topic of in-game chatbots has been coming up more often now! The catch is, you need to connect it to a paid service, or to a local LLM (free, but then the bot’s capabilities depend on your local VRAM memory).

For Space Engineers, someone created a ship AI, for some reason, it never caught on. It would be interesting, st least for a while if it could answer game-related questions, or warn of enemies. Maybe it gets too expensive to be viable?

For free, you can create a local agent that can “google” stuff for you, or rather, check the wikis (and maybe even reddit?), I’m looking into that. I don’t know how to integrate it into a running game though.

The question is, which problem am I trying to solve? We have a new solution, now we are looking for suitable problems…

For that it would need to understand what’s currently happening in the game. That’s not really what LLMs do.

There are two potential uses I can see for LLMs in games. One is as an interactive manual (hey there, Clippy!).

And the other is as “translators”. Not from one language into another. But especially with procedural games that rely a lot on text, you have the problem that your procedurally generated description are only so fancy (point in case: Dwarf Fortress). What you could use an LLM for is take that formulaic, generated text and tell the LLM to write it in a different style, so it can be adjusted to the current context and get some variety.

Trying to use an LLM to “play” an NPC will only lead to heartbreak, as the LLM will invariably deviate from what it is supposed to say depending on how the player engages it.

Tough to find out here it looks like, although it has been on sale in a couple of shops back when it released.
