Future Update Speculation

Wait… Its valentine’s next week….

Valentines day + Safety Jacket = Prophylactic update

Well, you can ride your pets…. XD

Seriously though, NMS does have the various extractors for materials, so adding the smelters, fabricators, etc isn’t a stretch. But that would mean more a revamp of extractable resources, and a redo of the recipes to make it work properly. If this is the case, that’s a big change.

It would make sense in the long run, because LNF is on a single planet so just a handful of resource types per planet is not an option. Only problem is that resources will be too same-y if they are the same for each planet. Maybe a large set of resources with some variation between planetary system type with cross system shipment (give a new use for freighters and frigates, we do have miner and supply frigates).

Given the NMS mechanics, I doubt any NMS update would branch very far from what we’ve already seen. Modular, click together type equipment that functions pretty much on its own from an interactive standpoint. We do get a bit of proximity based overlap for inventory access but I don’t think there is any actual interaction between systems.
The mechanics of SATISFACTORY works quite differently with interconnecting systems leading to each other.

I do however see the possibility of something like a Corvette, (which is effectively a flying base), introduced where something like an Asteroid Mining Module could be placed in space and left to its devices & later docked with to retrieve the spoils. Basically a little space-base.

An other possibility, might be the more detailed interactiveness of existing structures such as Celestial Archives & Space Stations however I think they are ‘fixed’ into the game’s seed so maybe not…

I do wonder if the ability to ‘build’ a freighter might be on the cards: We have a system for retrieving wrecks & storing parts & the components of all the various freighters are already modular & interchangable. I would imagine it could work very much as the Starship & Corvette build system does.

A final note would be the possibility for a more detailed terestrial mineral & mining system beyond a few placable components. Maybe it could be an expansion to Settlements or some sort of new settlement.

I have to admit…I’m quite intrigued where this hint is leading.

May not relate to the clue, but I want to connect my refiners together…connect them to a collector even. Add a big bin to put on the input and output. Hook medium refiner to gas collector on oxy hot spot. Attach bin to other input and fill with uranium. Attach bin to output and fly off…come back to collect bin full of gamma root.

Mrs Mad-Hatter wonders if there may be a Corvette-like mobile base submarine for those super deep waterworlds coming someday. She makes a good point that those environments are difficult to utilise & fully enjoy from a game perspective.

I built a deep water base but found it to be somewhat pointless after all the fiddly, dangerous effort to set up mining, power & extraction equipment. Any land base would have been much easier.
A mobile ‘submarine’ type base that allowed for cruising through the depths attending to various mining POIs sounds interesting.

I don’t like underwaater. It’s too dark, too disorientating, and too dangerous. It’s too slow, and it’s too easy to get lost and stuck in a cave without realising it. I swim 10 feet from my nautilon and it disappears, only to be found half a mile away. Underwater is bloody awful.

Maybe the vests are a reference to CalTrans workers and he is letting us know that the next project has been massively delayed…

In the U. S., those are also used by crossing guards at street crosswalks near schools.

I at first thought the emoji also looked like a life jacket, which would be worn over water, hence related to Worlds 3.
