It’s unusual to tease an update at this point. The current expedition still has nearly two weeks to run.
It feels like Hello Games have been fielding minor distractions to keep us troops entertained, whilst in the background, they have a private calendar running that they don’t want to ignore.

I was nonplussed about ring planets, myself. Then I discovered that planetary rings caused clouds in facilities of all types. I was not impressed.

An expedition introduces temporary changes to the base game. An update introduces permanent changes to the base game. So far, HG have avoided doing both at the same time - presumably because of the complexity and risk involved.
Their timing puzzles me. It has done for some months.
