We have been assuming that the article was released early by mistake, but it named a date instead of saying something like it was ‘released today.’ And only two days before the given date. The info could have been scheduled for a Tuesday reveal (we always needed a week or two to get all media inline), but the game ran into a problem and GR didn’t get the memo to hold off publishing.
I’ve been there many times. I was lead for a group of about 300 programmers, someone would leak a project to the media, it gets published, and upper management would come down and assign me to make it work immediately to save face–and stock price. ( I often thought that corporate marketing did the leaking as a way to put pressure on development.)
Maybe they are sweating the leak or maybe they just like working at night (a better time to test IMO.)
Of course publishing the article could have been a mistake, tomorrow could be the day, and I’ll happily be waking to the next adventure.

Nothing has ever suggested that the Atlas is/was in our world. Nothing has ever suggested that the creator(s) of the Atlas were human. Lots of players seem to have assumed so, but there’s nothing anywhere in the lore that says so.
