In the caramel ice cream factory I have agriculture machines outside doing all the farming but sometimes this guy breaks into the building and hand delivers the eggs.

I think you can claim the same egg from the expedition rewards screen on your main save from the QS Companion.

I got the same creature when claiming the expedition egg. So yes, you get to keep it.

Note: Some players (myself included) are experiencing a bug with the expedition egg. Hatching it may just cause it to disappear without adding the new pet, or may just summon an existing pet if you have one.

I need to double check my Steam and PS5 games. That may be why I was surprised on Switch. I did not see this see thru critter in either of my other games.

Update
Today’s Steam experimental patch has fixed the egg issue for the bio luminescent creature however, I had to hatch the egg already in my inventory, which failed, and then go to the Anomaly and claim a fresh one.
Bad egg I guess.

Hmm, when was that update? Oh, experimental.
As @Argh said, seems I lost mine (bioluminescent pet) before I ever saw it (during the expedition, it disappeared and in my main save, it looked like a butterfly instead).
I thought I broke the egg because I have the tradition to give each egg a bit of antimatter in the color gene slot… 
I just wanted a shiny antimatter coloured pet… is that asking to much?

The great thing about starting a new save is when you arrive for the first time at the Anomaly wearing your solid colored space suit and flying the starter ship, everyone thinks you are a newbie. Then they gift you things.
