Farming freighter’s upgrades (Desolation Update)

Hi!

Findings:

  1. many systems may spawn derelict freighters with the same name.
  2. derelict freighters with the same name will award upgrades of the same class, but of different types each time player visiting it (even within same system).
  3. it is possible to farm upgrades of specific class within same system by repeatedly scanning for derelict freighter and visiting one to collect upgrade.

Example system coordinates (Euclid):

This system spawns freighter ‘The Sea of Kusas’, which always awards upgrades of class ‘S’.

So far I have collected five of those (PC, experimental):

Even with this not maxed out fleet coordination level, single S-class frigate is enough for a mission.

Because frigates now get maxed out stats of 150, instead of 35-40 regular points.

HG nerfed freighter upgrades on experimental patch and now they each give 15% bonus max, instead of 25% that they were giving previously.

I’m on PC, Normal, Steam and can’t access any of the slots that I’ve added. So only the top row is available. Was wondering if you might be on the Experimental branch?

Yes. it is fixed on experimental.

Found a derelict freighter that had two spaceships inside. Sorry about the lighting but it’s the best that I could do.

Got an S tech from each and a C from the engineering panel. Note - The S upgrades are for spaceships and not freighters.

This kinda weird placement seems to yield best result is stats.

And here are tech slots.

Man, I need to get my internet back up and get on this update ASAP.

Just filled out the tech on a freighter. Pretty cool that its usable again for long distances. I’ll probably delete most of the tech in main storage after I test the loot from frigate missions though.

Could you please also show tech slots?
And what are the glyphs of derelict, you’ve used to obtain upgrades?

Sure took this a bit earlier , I’ll get you one with the glyphs tomorrow.

Edit: Mines has 2 fighters too like your derelict, gives the odd b class but usually you get 2 s class modules.
Theres only bots, no beasties, you can charge right through without stopping.

Apparently the class of your freighter makes a difference in the max number of slots. Mine is B class and maxed at less than yours.

Thank you! This is best freighter so far with 246 ly hyperdrive and other upgrades for freighter and ship’s upgrades.
One thing I do not understand though, how did you get ‘warp efficiency’ = 8.0 and hyperdrive range over 6000.
Best I’m able to get is 4.0 for ‘warp efficiency’ and 4900 ly for hyperdrive.

I believe its something to do with legacy freighters. I’m in the process of updating mines at the moment.
In the first pic I have a legacy freighter from normal mode. The second one I got a week ago in survival, both kitted out identically. looks like theres a lower base line or something with older freighters.

Went to a few systems in the same region looking for the elusive ‘S’ upgrade for the freighter’s hyperdrive. Didn’t find any.

Can say that all the derelicts in the same region have the same number of zones. In this region it was only necessary to go through four zones to find the engineering panel.

Also, that the hazard is somewhat consistent within the same region. Here I usually had drones and/or ceiling lasers. Sometimes had nothing. Sometimes a few jellies were added to the mix. Zone contents went from none to extremely crowded with random equipment. Some drop chutes and ladders might show up too.

Slime covered doors but no hanging bags of critters. Lots of security drones and lots of chutes/ladders.

The following one is the best I’ve seen so far.
It has 248ly hyperdrive upgrade and it gives it on first attempt.
Seems like ‘counter‘ resets with loading/warping into a system.

Not freighter upgrades.

Just through the back of the Docking Bay doors are two spaceships that you can scavenge - each with an ‘S’ upgrade.

Staying in the same system and using an Emergency Broadcast Receiver to visit the same derelict results in various ‘S’ upgrade pairs.

Edit. Every once in a while a lesser upgrade appeared.

Managed to max out my hyperdrive range at 6286.1

Curious to see if anyone manages more with a diff. layout! I haven’t tested them all.
