Desolation Update

If they continue on these lines, these would probably be the next to arrive, as they are no additional effort to integrate with the current world.

These are quite a bit tougher due to terrain integration, but that could be solved by just flattening like it is done for current bases. They couldn’t get too large, though…

I would love that, but they would be a pain to integrate. It would require advanced knowledge of appreciable swaths of terrain to place them. Honestly, I have no idea how that could be done reliably. The only feasible option might be to regenerate the terrain around them, but that could lead to all kinds of weird artifacts and probably be heavily unoptimised, unless they can embedd their general shape into the terrain generation itself… which is probably not something the terrain engine was designed to accommodate. Then again, the necessary hook to flatten terrain around bases could probably be abused for something like that…

Even better… imagine if we get a real enemy in the game, and this sort of gameplay is applied to infiltrating their bases, stations or freighters? (or defending your own freighters and frigates from boarding parties?)

One other thing that piqued my curiosity about the Desolation update was the Title available for entering a special system. Has anyone unlocked this title or know what a “Special System” is?

I believe that the type of derelict (hazard, contents) may be tied to the region of space. If I warp to a different region then the derelict changes to slime, remotes, jellies, nothing, etc.

I noticed that too. A hand full of titles were locked for me and some of those were obvious why I didn’t have them but there was a few that I had no idea how to obtain.

They can be stacked or used as a base for other items.

I worry about the wisdom of placing parts from these derelict, virus and vermin infested freighters on our own freighters. I hope we don’t regret this.

On PS4, we are getting a regular crash upon leaving a derilict freighter.

If we head towards a planet or a space station, as the game ‘thinks’ about what’s coming into view, it just crashes.
This loses all progress from whatever the last save point prior to entering the derilict, which can be quite some time.
Seems to happen most often in Permadeath saves for some reason.

I’ve found the solution is to pulse away into clear space, (only stars), just far enough away to call in my Capital Ship & then immediately land & establish an autosave restore point ASAP.
Avoids a ton of repeated effort.

I have observed a similar phenomenon with my wife’s, my daughter’s, and my account.

I hide mine in a doorless cuboid room.
It’s just too big & looks like a sign off the roof of a Route 66 diner.
