Corvette Creations

No pictures to share just yet, experimenting with different builds and seeing how all the parts interact etc. Going for a ghost in the shell type beetle thing at the moment but its looking more and more like a Tortoise.

I find I’m liking the hallways more fun to use than the habs. You end up with more doors but you have more choice in what is a door and what is a wall as placing interior modules will replace the door with a wall on the other side, it also breaks up the variance. The captain can have a fancy room while everyone else has the duct tape variety and it helps keep ship sizes minimal.

You can achieve ship interiors that feel less symmetrical/tube like and have more of a natural layout to them.

My approach so far has been to do my blocking with the interior first, and then see what visuals that conjures up in my head and try to replicate it with whats at hand. The ol tried and true method of freeing the statue from the stone, thanks for that one Mikey!!!

That Mikey Langelow?

Well this has all had a subconscious effect on me except my adolescent brain conjured up the wrong Michaelangelo.

Its officially a turtle tortoise corvette thing

Still working out the shape, took it for a test flight to see how the shilouette was looking. I was happy to see the legs change direction as too take off and they look even more like it’s swimming :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Awesome and unique. @toddumptious

This thing showed in the Anomaly just as I finished the expedition

The thing about these huge Corvettes…they are all exterior hull.

The bottom one had an interesting layout. Up the ramp to a walkway with a set of stairs. Everything else was upstairs.

I have been leaning towards airless/atmosphereless planets whilst searching for corvette parts due to their generally flat or rolling terrain and the ability to perpetually fling yourself and your jetpack into the horizon.

While I had found ones that yielded the usual amount, yesterday I found one that has buried scrap in bunches, four out of the five signals I followed led to areas with 5-6 more within 100-200u of eachother.

This felt like too good to be true but I think I found my permanent scrap searching planet.

I thought I’d share it here for folk who might be still on the search for a good scrap planet.

And sometimes you get those locations where two have spawned in

The only downside is the sentinels are aggressive but this has the added bonus of keeping you on your toes and focused on the task at hand, hardly an issue on an airless planet if you just keep running running running

If you do make your way here feel free to build, explore and name anything you like 07

But I have already filled 2 roamers and still do not have all the parts I want. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: but I will be heading there soon

Good thing they increased the stack size from 10.

If you have a surplus of something you could always trade it for what you don’t have.

Will I follow this advice myself? No. I will find my own damn parts. Unless I find myself building and only have three of the four rounded corners I need, then you bet I’ll trade while the guy has me there in the shop. That’s how they get ya.

You’re allowed to trade the ones you’ve scavenged. It’s only cheating if you buy them.

(edit) Trading is more difficult than it needs to be. It would help if there were some price indicator to show what’s likely to work.

I’m not sure if it’s my imagination or just depends on the part you’re trading for, but consecutive trades at the same station seem to result in a lower percentage or sometimes it just feels easier to get a higher percentage with very little parts (maybe there’s a “play hard ball” slider that’s space station specific?).

Hard to know but I’ll wait for the community at large to gather the data and deliver the science.

It seems to operate on the same principals as the bone trading, it even had that whole stack trading bug that the bones had. So if that’s been looked into (whether haggling varies from station to station for Bone Collectors) then the answer is most likely the same there too.

That’s certainly true when buying / selling general goods at the trade terminal. The more of an item you sell at a particular station (as in number of transactions), the lower return you get.

The opposite is also true - the more often you buy an item, the higher the price goes. So, if you’re bothered, you can game it.

If you have, say loads of gold to sell, the trick is to buy lots of gold - in small, separate transactions - then, when the price has gone up, sell all your gold in one go.

Of course, at the trading stations, you can see what the price is - which makes things easier. Trading corvette parts, you have to guess.

I seem to mostly dig up parts of little value. Sometimes I can’t get enough value together for the parts I would like to stock up on.

I would really like to see the ability to trade for more than 1 piece at a time. Gets tedious.

Also, we need more ship slots. 12 is not enough

I had only used/seen the basic parts until i finally got into the expedition.

Some other Travellers have really made an effort to hunt down the premium parts & dress them up nice. I noted that some of the smaller more elite ships were some of my favourites & will probably be the direction I go in my main save…. when I get to it.

You can trade, say, three low value parts for a medium value part. Keep on doing that . They don’t need to be parts you want - they’re only for trading. Clears a lot of junk from your inventory, too. Then, when you have three medium value parts, you can trade them for one high-value part.

It’s longg winded, and annoying, (mostly because you can’t see the value), but it works. I got my extra reactors that way.

I think I just don’t like the trade system. :face_with_steam_from_nose:

You can actually trade for multiples of the same part by increasing its value the same way you would a regular item, depending on control scheme.

The number doesn’t show up until you proceed to the trade window but you’ll hear the little increment indicator.

Unless you meant more than one type of part. In which case I would like that too. Checkout with a nice little bundle

So I don’t see a way to trade for more than one item at a time. In this case, the landing gear I would like. I can only get 1 at a time

No need to land to get corvette parts.

Since corvettes hover, just go down somewhat close to the planet surface and reduce speed to 0. Get up from the chair, scan for parts, mark one, get back into the chair and fly there. I don’t know about the lasers but the ship’s photon weapon mines the site just fine.

You increase the quantity before proceeding to this window, you won’t see a quantity rise in the previous menu but you will see the number on this current window when you do

@temp this was my go to tactic, I just set the corvette to maintain course at a low alt and speed and wait for one to appear on the horizon if there isn’t already one in sight.

Even better if the Corvette is already heading straight for it, I take the stairs to the roof and do an air drop as it passes without having to course correct the steering.

This planet has had them in such a large number and in close proximity it ended up being easier to just jetpack everywhere .

Cruising in corvette and being able to scan is going to make a lot of similar tasks and searches a lot more fun and manageable, also gives passengers a much vital task for people playing together. It might be my favourite low key “feature” of corvettes.

I returned to the turtle and worked on it some more, I made the underside a lot more belly like and lengthened the shell on top to be further up the front, while adding two rear side roof access hatches with the intention of making them lounge areas within the shell.

I’ve also started decorating the trims and vents etc with various foliage and branches so it looks like its spent a bit of time blending into a swamp.
