Hey @kyle-culver ! Thanks for stopping by! Hope the new year is treating you well!
Oh thanks so much I am so please t make pictures Art ! Again as in real life due to illness had to give up⦠it was fun and I hope to make an ArtGallery Base and invite people to display theirs ā¦one day xxx
So glad you visited xxx would you like to make a Christmas base nearby ?
It would be a great way to keep in touch xxx
Are there example of other people making Art in NMS do you know ?
I donāt have a specific list but on the Anomaly thereās this big portal with a list of featured bases that are very artful. I visited once and the first one slowed my old PC to a crawl and took minutes to load in, so be prepared for that.
This seems to be at its worst in those sections of expeditions where HG have allowed base building. In order to stop you falling through the ground, the current version of the game wonāt let you land your ship until it has loaded the surrounding landscape. But all those complex bases have to be downloaded before this can happen - so you can be floating round like a helpless fool for hours.
Ooo I will try and find that portal thank you x
Ah that is interesting xxx
I remember someone putting together a āMuseum of Simulated Artā and a call for players to add their own work. Not sure where that one was happening, but I remember not being able to participate due to lack of time on my part.
The Galactic Hub Project has an Art & Event District where there is supposed to be a dedicated space to player-made art. However, I went to the coords and couldnāt find it. The wiki page says itās under construction, so might not be around to view for a little bit.
There was this guy on reddit who made an art gallery a couple months ago on Switch. But itās all the available posters from the game and no āoriginalā works.
I honestly havenāt seen many players create ācanvasā artwork in the game, or have a focus on it, like there is for base building, ship hunting, or bytebeats. A few here and there, but thereās no foundation. It would be a cool niche activity group to start up, though!
Thank you for these pics Kyle x I think I will start my own art gallery and see if others will join in
Pity those co ordinates didnāt work for you as I would love to see how others make galleries
Just had a look at the galactic hub link - scared off by so many rules ! I can see how they would be needed though x
haha, yeah completely understood. It definitely needs to be an involved process. Not that we have too many bad apples out there in this community to worry about. Thatās always a nice incentive to even pursue something like an art gallery.
If you create one Iād love to spectate and maybe even participate. Seems most galleries offer what youād often find IRL: large walkways with dedicated wall space. I feel thereās a level of glitch building needed for making the canvases. Iām not entirely sure But something about making a fancy lobby with drinks and observing artwork is appealing to visit in-game.
Great Kyle⦠so far all I have managed to do is lay decals over a flat panel
I have a limited range of things to use as I havenāt got any QS ā¦yet
But the variations are manyā¦they can be quite tricky to lay the decals on the panel which also gives rise to some surprising resultsā¦just like real art and the limits of any material chosen ā¦
So shall I join that community! How does one so soā¦would they want me⦠! I would love to set up a gallery there ā¦would that mean that others could contribute ! I am not sure what the rules about not building on thereās bases would do about contributing artistā¦
The beautiful thing is you can simply start on your own. āJoiningā would be the equivalent of sharing your work via screenshots or what-have-you. As far as I know - besides the Galactic Hub Project - there are no āofficiallyā running NMS Art communities. I guess it comes down to you and what you want to do.
For me, I would probably start building a base with the idea of making art inside of it to be featured. Iād do my own thing until I have a decently filled gallery, then open it up for visitors and share the location.
Youāve made art in the game, so as far as Iām concerned youāre already part of that NMS art community! Could even start up a new thread with art made in the game being the focus. I donāt think there is one yet, afaikā¦
In fact, I could build something of a gallery to house art, and as long as we were friends in the game you could create whatever art youād like in that base. There are other methods, but thatās just keeping it simple. Iām already thinking of commissioning one of the base building community members to build something for me. That way more of the community gets in the know and itās a collaborative effort.
I totally get how not having an interest in finishing daily missions, which makes it hard to get the extra decals. If I could transfer some of my QS to your account I totally would. Fortunately, you can join other players completing dailies. In most cases their progress extends to you so, theoretically, you wonāt have to do much. It will simply take time to acquire. Each mission offers 400, and they stack 3 days at a time. So you could potentially get 1200 in one day. Iām not even sure what decals would be considered for creating art⦠hm. Thereās gotta be a chart or something in the wiki.
But this is all brainstorming⦠No matter the direction, youāre still already part of that NMS art community, even if there is no āofficialā one. Yet. So wherever you decide to go from there is up to you!
Likely the biggest reason there is not more of this artwork in the game is due to collision and an unpredictability about how things will interact and a question about its durability.
I have made quite a few pieces of art in the game and have found that stickers can change and overlap in weird ways over time. I made the decision to build inside my settlement and had tons of signs only to have the last big update rotate my settlement by a few degrees and throwing everything into chaos.
Here are a few things I have left.
A sticker poster on my freighter
Some signs at my current main base
A couple of experiments at the same base
Gosh you are ahead of me with your artā¦3D !!! I rather like the frailty of this artwork in NMS at the mercy of a higher power for survivalā¦just like IRL art it only survives at the whims and fortunes that surround it xxx
@Linshell I forgot about this mural I did in one of my old bases
I never actually made it to these Christmas builds in the end.
Iāve also yet to use the add to favourites feature.
Will be making great use of it once Sony revives their service
