I mean, it would probably be about as much a multiplayer area as the freighter missions are multiplayer missions. Meant to be multiplayer, but people with high end upgrades can manage to solo them.
Just some thoughts on the portal we see at the end. The light shows to be bright white, which is interesting in my opinion. Has anyone considered or thought about ‘White Holes’? The lore does not mention it a lot, in fact I could only find 3 matches in all of the language files:

The installation crackles with blue sparks, electricity arcing from panel to panel across the machines. The terminal shows the time and date appearing to flip back and forth, advancing into the future and retreating into the past. Sensors indicate something called a white hole has been activated within the factory’s heart. The terminal presents numerous options. |

SCENARIO: Multiple contacts have occurred between the Traveller [HOST] and individuals claiming to have arrived from a future location in time. The phenomena is typically preceded by electromagnetic distortion consistent with a white hole anomaly. No lasting effects seem to occur. ANALYSIS: Something or someone is attempting to deceive the Traveller [HOST]. There is no such thing as ‘time travel’. Older universes might contain elder beings, but such multiversal transportation, even temporary, is impossible. Even the Atlas is incapable of rewriting its own causality. It is bound to a purpose, as am I. |
Now the interesting thing with white holes, is the fact they are theoretically the opposite of a black hole. White holes can not be entered from the outside, but matter and light can escape from it.
See:
So I was thinking that IF this is some kind of multiplayer hub, you automatically start from it when joining multiplayer, to only be able to ‘escape’ or exit from it. There is no physical entry within the game itself, just the ‘menu entry’. This would make total sense to me, although I am not sure about the ‘time travel’ part that supposedly comes with white holes.
A White Hole Anomaly …
Oh well, more speculation. Don’t believe anything I say!
I had 3 thoughts (IF these were multiplayer hubs):
- That they may have a new multiplayer storyline that leads you to one of these things in your region…rarer like a black hole
- That you automatically start in one with a multiplayer game start and that you gain the ability to call this new anomaly (or a portal to it) from your quest menu while in that mode.
- These are a new findable building type (space port) that you can claim for your guild and the white light is just the light differential with the outside.
I like that 2nd/3rd idea, (even though I’m not into multiplayer).
Some sort of customisable space station in a claimed system where multiple players can come and go and interact, sort of like a Capital. With the hub idea having become such a huge thing, it does make sense for HG to create the ability for multiple players to create such a location.
If it is something like this, I hope there is something that the solo players can utilise as well…
One of the things I’ve loved about what Hello Games has done when adding new lore is draw from their/our real-world experiences. The entire traveller story arc is strongly derived from those first attempted player “meetups” that revealed we were in separate instances, unable to see each other. HG drew from that and made it a core part of the new lore, in the very update that made the actual first major step into multiplayer.
They’ve done this in a number of places, and at this point I’d more surprised if they didn’t continue the trend. It’ll be fun to see where Beyond takes it.
This actually fits well with the appearance of the other Anomaly…good stuff!
I’d forgotten about the orange colours. You’re right the video does have accents of colour, possibly gold, which might hint at a traveller hub, like you cleverly suggest.
My guess is that place allows travellers to jump between the online world, and the single player simulation.
As I am watching the video again… we are talking about a New type of Sentinel… but does it really make sense to place a chill room just next to it? (chairs and plants)
In the lore, there is talk of a pet sentinel - Laelaps. You can own him, and he assists you. Just a thought.
Oh, and enjoy your cake.
Could definitly be!
My 37th cake so far hehe, thank you!
I love that idea! A little sentinel buddy, that goes with you on your travels! Yes please!
You’re alive! Glad to see you ‘up and about’.
I had forgotten about the sentinel buddy. Perhaps it is part of the cartographic tools spoken of in the Lore.
With NPC being given the ability to walk around, I thought that they may go with bipedal sentinel opponents.
However, I do like the idea of having a pet or assistant…as long as they don’t get in the way of building or fighting.
errr… We already have those?
I meant humanoid bipedal . I thought that the Synthgek would be a good precursor for these types enemies (similar to BSG.)
Of course I’m alive. How could I die without your permission?
Here are some slightly cleaner images from a Playstation blog post. Didn’t see them posted here yet. Speculate away.
I wonder if this is the room ATLAS resides in . If we were to exit the simulation somehow that’s surely where we’d end up. (probably not, with the emergence of a new power in the universe – they probably want to expand on that. Just thinking outloud.)
The entire room looks like a massive computer’s motherboard. You can see large cylinders on the ground that kind of look like capacitors.
There seem to be hydraulic rams around the outside of the well or whatever it maybe. Perhaps they animate robotic arms building stuff. Perhaps the device could be a 3D printer. Printing new ship parts with things we find in game, dial in and hey presto we have a custom ship part to add to our star ships if we wish or trade it to others. Just another wild thought. (Watching too much of Tony Stark building Iron Man’s latest tech!)
