Downloading and biting my nails
First impression on PC Steam [did not try cross play]
The game performance/visual experience seems smoother/improved.
Happy cake day!
My game did not crash on 1 out of 8 attempts at landing on the Nexus. Making this update 7 times more stable than most previous ones.
Ok. Really bizarre things are happening in the old etarc starchain.
I moved my ship and a Gek was sitting in mid air. Was he resting on my ship watching me?
Then the on screen notification said I was initializing a mission at the NexusâŠbut I have been building a base for the last hourâŠ
Thank you @sheralmyst! I didnât realize it was my cake day
So apparently NMS is broken on Windows7 again. The game runs fine, but multiplayer is disabled due to âNo connection to matchmaking servicesâ. I saw Experimental testers having this problem, and as feared, it made it into the release. Given HG never addressed the last Win7 discovery server protocol issue themselves (after weeks a player found a MS patch that fixed it), Iâm not confident theyâll do anything about it this time.
Neither would I be. Win7 is a discontinued system. The effort to support outdated depedencies that only a minuscle fraction of your userbase relies on (and for which there is good reason not to rely on anymore) is just not feasible. Iâm making decisions like that in my job myself. I still have to do IE support, and itâs bloody annoying, and the only reason weâre doing it is because our statistics show that 16% of our customers are still using it. If that were only 5%⊠yeah no, weâd save both the cash and the headache.
If you have another drive, you can clean install windows 10 and itâll dual boot. Yes, it didnât break anything.
It does make windows 7 take 30 seconds longer to boot as you have to quick boot to windows 10 first and then choose windows 7 at which point itâll restart your machine (beep) and start windows 7.
You canât boot to an external drive though, because MS doesnât want you to do that.
After a few weeks I removed the win7 partition as never booted into it, but then I only use windows for games so I really only had to install steam and point to my old steam folders to find all the games.
On GOG around the time I play, there is generally like 2-3 people in the Nexus. Yesterday with the new version, it was bustling. Iâll have to get used to that.
The issue has been with Windows 7 where users did not have the TLS 1.1/1.2 default secure protocols installed or not enabled correctly. The update and all info can be found below:
With that update installed and âcorrectlyâ enabled, the issues prior to the current crossplay update should have been resolved. I am not sure Hello Games can even do anything about fixing that if Win 7 users decide to stick with outdated security layers required to work for current standards.
I am however not sure if the âNo connection to matchmaking servicesâ is a new issue or still related to the above. Would be interesting to know for sure, if Win 7 users who have been able to properly connect to the MP servers, are now facing a new issue.
I would however advise not to stick to a discontinued OS and find a current/up-to-date alternative, as the amount of issues will only increase over time.
