Anniversary Update Speculation(with spoilers)

If I was a betting man I would say no earlier than the 16th, no later than the 26th. I dont believe Sept,I think they want to release now…can’t…and doing what they can to get it done asap. I think they missed their original goal, did the teaser because they knew it wouldn’t be this week, but didn’t want to ignore the date. So now that they have missed it, are making sure it goes fairly stable since now they have the time.

I feel like 17 ties into the big 16 lore. The allusion to the Beyond trailer, sort of made me felt like we’ll go Beyond the Frontier, that being going Beyond the current iteration, and going Beyond 16, which would mean going beyond the Atlas’ simulation, perhaps into another simulation created by the Abyss? Or perhaps the person with the Atlas by the end of its days is trying to transfer its data to, say, a Loop17?

I believe @unique and @ThatBomberBoi may be right about the 17th. This may indeed be the end of the Atlas. Isn’t the actual Atlas at the center? Which has so far been unreachable…
 I hope this is correct.

Really hope so, this would give HG a lot of space to work, and us lore enthusiasts excited :stuck_out_tongue:
I might not be the best person to quote on this, but I believe that the Atlas had pinpointed the “Glitch” in its system to the Center, and resets the simulation when you try to get there, maybe to stop you from glitching too? But a weakening Atlas may not be able to reset at one point, making the true Centre reachable!

I wonder if there is a reason HG left phantom stars in the galaxy… maybe these were(or are) supposed to be something in the future. Or maybe its just a bug in the game and they decided to leave them figuring that its a rare thing if anyone finds them?

I would LOVE a new universe to explore. But unless it’s a small expansion, a Void or something, that sounds more like No Man’s Sky II. Life After ATLAS. Anything could be possible. I wish we could do anything we want. Build entire communities, small cities, without Sentinels going all crazy and trying to kill us. Romance alien space babes. Save the universe - many times!

But something on that order sounds like Elite Mass Citizen Eve Starfield Sky. Which would be the most epical thing EVAR! But Sean-sensei says it’s “Kind of like just another update,” so I’m going to expect small things while I dream of big things. And as my story demonstrates, I dream pretty big things.

Interesting. Never knew about this…or I forgot lol. Seems like it is a way to allow to add planets easily. Pretty cool.

Yeah. “Beyond 16” is a new frontier.

On the other hand, Frontiers is plural. Plus, Sean rarely gives very direct hints.

[drumming fingers on computer desk while waiting for more teasers and then the drop.] LOL.

My past guess is that these were saved for some scripted story content where players cant spam bases and messages. But considering all this void talk and server issues, maybe these are special Void systems? A place that is disconnected from multiplayer servers(with the exception of those you have chosen to enter into it with)

Probably not, though.

They’re simply artifacts of the procedural generation. We know that HG uses the 3-d position in the galaxy as the seed for a system. It follows that in every place where there is no system, there is none the less a seed, a system just never gets generated there. But if you hack that seed into your savegame, there’s no reason why the proc enginge can’t generate a system out of it. That’s how this stuff works…

The Guardian article about No Man’s Sky is exactly how I felt on playing the game from the get-go…

No Man’s Sky: five years of meteors, mining and metaphysics | Games | The Guardian

"…It was a strange, lonely space exploration sim, giving players a small craft and some laser tools to wrestle resources … You were on your own – metaphorically and literally. "

Perfect for me! I had not over-hyped myself. A relative who bought the game exclaimed after his first day of play, “This game is awesome!”

Then followed Awsomesauce, Amazeballs, Superfantabulous, and more!

I’m almost drooling waiting for Frontiers.

Ah I see. I have a very basic idea of how proc gen works so I am not going to pretend I understand. Lol.

Discovery Services were down for me today. :ear: I hear hammers and saws…oh wait…that’s really clicky keyboards I hear.

That was my reaction too. I pretty much embargoed the last several months of teasers, other than the four awesome Hello Games vids they released on the four aspects of play. But I completely missed everyone whining that space whales wouldn’t be there to eat our ships, no butterflies and the other BS. So my game opening in front of me was my first experience of the universe of Euclid and ATLAS.

I was so in awe, my first exposure to a serious space “sim,” that I explored my homeworld fairly thoroughly for a solid month. My friends playing it thought I was nuts, but I enjoyed every weird vista I saw. Then I found out that I was right next to a barren gold and emeril rich world and could have made three or four times as much money in less time if I’d just got my Pulse drive working. But I didn’t mind a bit. I even wanted to creep my way to the center, though I realized I’d be long dead before I’d gone 50,000 light years. I hated skipping every star system, but I had to be sensible.

This isn’t quite as bad as waiting for the game release. No, really it isn’t. It isn’t… :scream:

Soooo… either they consider the 15th the official anniversary of NMS, or something’s about to drop… Can’t see any third reason to essentially repeat what they already said on their website…

Perhaps. I see it more as a “placeholder” statement. He’s acknowledging people’s interest and support, without actually saying anything.

It looks to me like the sort of statement you make when you’re working on something, but you don’t know when it will be ready. Playing for time.

yup this. Though I hope it will be soon. I really dont think it will be too long.
