My understanding is that the attack only works if you install a printer driver when prompted.
Don’t install any driver that you did not choose to run the install for.

So Windows 21H1 was just forced on me. It has been optional for ages. I assumed this was a preview of 11…
The latest Win10 update almost killed my PC. It had to run system restore. A window popped up and said something had failed but I was across the room and it was gone too quickly. Did anyone else experience this? I have updates paused for now.
My machine just updated this morning, no issues.
Well I looked again and am trying again. I have been confused by the 21H1 and 21H2 options. Microsoft automatically put me on 21H1 but the latest update was an update for that however, I had an optional update to 21H2 so I went for that one this morning. Hopefully this will work out…![]()
I would jump to Win11 but I am having trouble finding a 2.0 TPM for my motherboard because of the number of pins required…may not be possible without building a new PC…![]()
Now seems to be stuck on my printer…which I really need
My PC is just old enough to not have TPM. So sad. I hunger to replace, but am having trouble justifying it to myself. My Dell XPS 8500, 3.4GHz, Quad 4 i7, 24GB RAM with 2TB HDD still works well and is just too nice to resign to recycling. ![]()
I do lust for a better graphics card, though it’s more $$ , as my NVIDIA GTX 960/4GB can’t really handle Ultra settings. Since my love in No Man’s Sky is xenophotography, a new card with beefed up speed and RAM would be really nice.
I advise caution. When I built my Windows 11 PC, the motherboard (Asus) manufacturer’s information said that Windows 11 would not work with a plug in TPM.
The TPM is now built in to your processor, and has been for some years. According to Asus, this is the only kind Win 11 will use.
Of course, this may only be true for modern Asus motherboards - but it can be an expensive error to make.
Thanks for that info. There are some TPM for my brand motherboard around $20-$30. But, they have more pins than I need. May not be able to find one anyway. Wishing for an upgrade but I am supposed to be on the list for a Steam Deck…cannot do both at once. Kind of hoping the Deck can become a bridge while we wait for markets to stabilize.
My PC is stuck attempting auto repair from the latet win10 update. I am not amused
Bummer. Luckily, I’ve had no such issues in any of my home or client work PCs. I had one issue years ago from a separately installed .Net update, but it was easily fixed.
Of course, I quit building my own computers years ago. My current desktop is old enough that it lacks TPM, so I’m considering an upgrade. ![]()
It finally restored but took 3 restarts…was a nail-biter
