The origin of a new wishlist

Still loving the heck out of NMS, but I have to grump a bit. :upside_down_face:

On ship construction dealers, these guys shouldn’t be hard to find either. Who would put a garage in a remote, hard to find location and never advertise? These guys will want to do business, and business doesn’t happen without customers. Scanning for ship build data is a good idea.

Defective upgrades / parts: well, the thing is, there has to be some appeal for buying used / refurbished gear besides being cheap. Especially if it has a chance of breaking down on you. Like, why buy used at that point? I don’t get much of the shady stuff from the clandestine dealers because it’s usually not as good as the vendor upgrades.

Memo to Team Mercury: they should have some really good bonuses if these are jury rigged / hacked upgrades. I ended up scrapping most of the few I bought.

Our scans / searches for Trading Posts, Outposts, Observatories, and to an extent the Colossal Archive towers since some of us think they should remain hard to find, those should have priority over things like Shelters and Save Points. It’s annoying for me to do a search with my tools only to have them report these piddling things, while over the hill sits a Trading Post or Minor Outpost, or dare I say it, a Colossal Archive. And then there is the prospect of flying halfway around a planet to a Trading Post when I know full well that numerous trade locations lie between. The code should determine all the points of interest in our vicinity, and when a scan is done, place these assets as close as reasonable.

Another whine: I don’t think a world should be classed as a Paradise if it has dangerous weather or other serious planetwide threats. Just a thought. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

We’re also going to need spacewalks then, so we can get out and push…

That would actually be a hilariously good idea. Lol.

I can see space walks as a good way to prevent players from feeling stranded when out of hyperdrive fuel. One could exit the ship in space and the game could spawn a single meteor a distance away to be able to gather needed resources to get you going again.

Wing Suits! Imagine climbing to the top of a mountain and gliding back down like a bird. Your scanner and weapons would work while gliding around.

With the taller mountains we have now, this would fit perfectly!

How about grapple hooks to climb the steep hills?

About those multi-seat ships, I’ll be realistic for a moment.

Fighter cockpits are single seater. Here on Earth, we do have two seaters, but that’s always for a fighter with extra tech requiring two people to operate, for fleet defense, special attack craft and that stuff. The Explorers also look like they’re single seaters too, though I could see the as dual seat ships, like for a pilot / scientist and a specialist.

The ones which would sensibly seat four would be the “family sedans,” the Shuttles and Haulers, and the Shuttles can be fairly sporty. Those would be the ones to do the four seat upgrade, to shuttle people around.

I want to transport people like in the old Frontier: elite II. You had to buy rooms in which to transport the people. If I recall correctly these missions were kind of timed (but I haven’t played that game in ages)

Every mission in Elite II and III was timed, so that is correct.

And if these missions would only send you to systems you haven’t been to, it would get you exploring. It’s a bit of a pity that all missions kind of send me to places I’ve already been to. The base missions for example kept sending me to the exact same building in another system. That meant I could use the teleporter of course. But it was kind of boring.

Well, the package delivery missions do send you to other systems, presumably passengers would work exactly the same.
The problem with deliveries is that you can only see where they actually take you on the galaxy map, which means that you don’t know if you’ll be able to trade things from this system there…

As far as I know, my freighter has never been attacked, but I have a feeling that day may be coming. With that in mind, it would be nice to be able to upgrade our freighter’s defenses. And give us more room in our tech window for them. Frigates too, for that matter.

More expansion blocks for storage and tech would be nice. I know we can expand them manually with the NMS Editor, which I have been delving into and using here and there, but some folk want to play the game legit, or don’t want to mess with software editors.

Well we can currently destroy our own turrets. They even have a health bar when they are hit(if im remembering correctly).

There have been other turrets found in the game files years ago but never surfaced again and no one talks about them anymore. They look very different and its assumed to be mildly customizable due to different muzzles found and appear to be craftable. But who knows. Maybe something will happen with it.

My biggest desire is to see Inventory system complete overhauled. Tech Slots Expanded to hold All tech, and restricted to only tech. With General reduced in size and cargo made default.

Would also like to see building expanded greatly. Slotting improved. More variety. Affected by environment (damage), defendable.

Last more immersive options. Water to drink…food required to fill hunger. Sleep or at least the ability to sleep in beds /pass in game time maybe.

More mining and construction equipment, would love a system similar to Fallouts converyer belts or Satisfactory.

They already hold only tech. Or can you put something else into them?

I mean no more using general etc for tech. Just tech…in tech, but large enough to hold all the tech you would need. make the slots need to be unlocked. Sick of using up slots in general for tech only to have it full all the time and having to shove stuff in and out of cargo etc.

I wouldn’t like that, honestly. The trade-off between how much do I want to kit out my ship vs. how much stuff do I want to be able to carry around with me seems kind of the only meaningful decision that ships currently offer…

I am mainly talking about exosuits not ships

I would definitely like to see more room in Tech blocks. I’ve fully expanded my ship’s Tech blocks, and with a fully upgraded Warp drive, a fully upgraded Pulse drive, fully upgraded shields, fully upgraded Launcher, teleporter and star system sensors, I have room for one ship’s weapon and some upgrades.

And all the protections in Exosuits is a bit much. You don’t have insulation, you need heat and cold protection both. You can prance around in a vacuum forever, but you need rebreathers underwater?? And you need fungus protection TOO?? To be able to survive in this deadly universe, I need 30 blocks worth, and probably used it because I have very little room for regular storage.

I know a game is going to have gamey features, but some of this is just grah. Does anyone else say grah to stuff they don’t like? GRAH!! :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

I agree. Some of the upgrades to exosuit aren’t great. Needing protection for different environments seems unrealistic(I know its just a game) and excessive. I mean space suits and space ships currently in the real world protect from both high heat and extreme cold.

I think the space suit tech should be:

  • Temperature insulation/suit material upgrades
Combined for both hot and cold(make survivng on these planets near impossible unless upgraded) can also protect from flame thrower damage and explotions
    -radiation/toxic suit material upgrades
Combined for radiation and toxic planets(again, make surviving on these planets near impossible unless upgraded) and provide some protection from laser fire and damage from creatures
    -oxygen tank upgrades
Increase oxygen capacity(but reduce base oxygen capacity and increase amount used when running and even more while swimming to make upgrading more meaningful)

-exosuit material upgrades

Make suits be able to be made of different materials or add materials that offer protection from different types of impacts(creatures, falls, projectiles, kinetic damage(explotions).
