Solar Eclipse on 12th, august 2026

Visible from western Europe on the same date NMS launched (on PC) 10 years ago at sunset.

Yes you read that right.

Alignement. It’s written in the stars.

Please, purchase your SPECIAL solar glasses for this event from your local drug store/pharmacie rather than on the internet.

DO NOT USE TRADITIONAL sunglasses.

You need your eyes to play NMS (and LNF) 10 more years!

So, i won’t be online next hours to fight the odds of clouds, and have a chance to see it near sea-side. Enjoy!

Typical Scottish weather for me, cloudy and a bit wet, after all the heatwaves too.

So at least we will see it go a bit dark.

And probably hear in the distance, the cries of the Wee Nack Mac Feegles ..

“Oh waily waily waily, WAILY WAILY WAILY, whats tae become of us”

(nod to Sir Terry Pratchett).

I’m literally looking at topographical maps to find a suitable hill that I can reach (without a car) with a view of the horizon without all these silly European castles and palaces blocking my view.

And I’m using the SkyView app to pre-calculate in which direction and height the sun will be… might be right out of sight, I don’t know how precise it is (will re-calibrate tonight).

Watching on TV, where we are following the eclipse from several locations. I noticed an airplane fly through the view in The Netherlands  where we are passed the max now.

It was very strange in the twilight golden light, the light isn’t scattered into reds and oranges in the same way as a sunset. It’s getting lighter here for the next hour then it’ll get darker all over again.

And I managed to trick my phones exposure level.

I did not expect to be seeing anything with my phone. However, it is is interesting all my images have the eclipse shown in the red spot. The below is probably my best shot for that matter (used zoom too).

Some of the others with the same effect.

Front door, colander, phone

I did have a better colander one, but I think I accidentally deleted it in the Great Crap Phone Shot Purge.

It was a cool moment. From where I was we couldn’t see the true total eclipse, about 94% but was beautiful.

I was not as crafty as some of you with my phone (as in, I didn’t charge it for 2 days :joy:) so no pics…

I also have only bad mobile pics. Without glasses, people didn’t notice the eclipse because it was only partial and too close to the horizon.
