It looks wonderful there! TravelEcho would be so pleased, as am I. And I am very grateful you shared it here. It means a lot to me.
In addition to the delightful pheasants and wall sculpture, I really like the vine carving on the face of your mantle piece - a very pleasing baroque touch.
In the background you can see the chairs I currently have, which I bought 6 of about a year or two ago for only €50,= total. These are quite ok actually, but I had other plans, so I knew these were likely only going to be temporary.
I have decided to go with a faux leather, which actually looks like cloth. Of each pair, one seat is planned to be purple, the other orange. So I will end up with a fun colourful mix
Still have to purchase some additional materials, but I should be able to at least get started soon enough. It will be a while before it’s all finished, but I’ll update here
Oh and I also got an itch to paint again. I still have a canvas lying around (1.15m x 0.75), but I also bought myself 5 new 100% cotton bed sheets (2.25m x 1.50m), which I have used before. I used to paint with acrylics and still have quite a lot, although some was gifted and may not be of great quality. For the canvas I was missing primer to get started. Today my purchase of Gesso (1l) by Royal Talens got delivered. I was also happy to find a few online shops selling the acrylic paint I am familiar with (Daler Rowney - System 3), although I may give Amsterdam or Amsterdam Expert a try as well, which are both actually Royal Talens rebrands.
Here are some old pictures of works I made before. Sorry for the bad quality, I should make some new shots after having created a proper way to frame/hang them.
These look great with UV-A (black light) and these pictures don’t do them justice.
I do still wish to actually paint a mural in my living room, but I figured I might as well get some of those sheets again due to being similar in size. Would at least allow me to change it up whenever I wish
Hope to soon get to making some sketches to begin with before actually getting to paint again!
I don’t know how it is in person, but when I first saw the Eye of the Beholder image here I thought "That is a very cool abstract, with an intriguing use of simple forms and color. " Then I looked closer and saw the veins and got this frisson of recognition and thought “That is a very cool abstract that is slightly creepy and I want to keep looking at it.” So, yeah, a whole lot of beholding going on.
I have the dining chairs stacked in a corner of my bedroom. The arm chair is in the living room with a blanket over it to hide the destruction, regularly used by one of my cats. I have a fairly spacious 2 bedroom apartment, more than enough for me alone.
A little project. Putting together a sputnik light. Not ready to hang it because it will weight about 17 pounds and I want to be sure the mounting in the ceiling is secure. Will hang over my dining table. Every time I walk by, I put another piece in.
Crochet is definitely a ‘learn from your mistakes’ experience. I spend more time pulling apart than putting together. Finding the correct stitch to work in is a challenge. Not bad for day 3.
Blocking mats.
I am crocheting a lap blanket/wrap. Because yarn is scrunchy I pin it to the blocking board at the end of the day then steam it to help shape the yarn. Then let it dry overnight. When I unpin it next day, I have a nice flat blanket to resume work on.
Interesting coincidence, I decided to use yarn with a fade and just luck, the green started dark and pink started light so they are opposite each other. I like it, though it would have been interesting for them to get darker and lighter together. Either way, so far, I am pleased. It is currently twice as wide now. Will try to add another 5 rows today. I need one more mat… Bad weather and extreme cold moving in here. Will have lots of time to work on it.
I see the weather has been rotten in your direction.
I have another blanket started in bottom right corner of pic using bulky yarn but, I need another color…and I have to travel 70 miles for supplies since the wal mart here is useless for craft supplies.
I wondered about the color changes, but, knowing almost nothing about crocheting, wasn’t sure what to make of it. I have seen variegated yarns before, but didn’t know they could be colored as a gradient. I like it!
My daughter’s fiance crocheted some cute little octopus critters when TravelEcho was in the hospital - one for her, one for me and several to give to favorite nurses and aides. The ones he made for TravelEcho and me are now part of the shrine I keep for her. Here they are separately…
And now that I look at these more closely, I guess they were also made with a kind of gradient colored yarn!
He was just learning at the time and has since moved on to more intricate projects, like a hat he gave me for Christmas.
Yes, the weather has been a bit all over the place here - like most places I think. I was visiting my kid in North Carolina over the holidays and ended-up postponing the return trip by a couple of days because of a snowstorm moving through the I-81 corridor. That’s a pretty typical hazard for travel at this time of year, but there does seem to be a lot of ping-pong between 50+ degrees one day and snow and ice the next.
Those are adorable!
I bet they brought a smile to her face.
Prepping for extreme cold here so there will be lots of practice time. Been working on some flowers which I plan on using on various things. Would love to do some hats.
