Ugh…so sorry about the clot. I have a friend that had one from her groin to the ankle. Painful. I hope it dissolves.
So glad you are back to working magic on canvas.
Hang in there!
At one point in life, I really wanted to be an architect. Takes so much training and then you must establish yourself so I passed up the opportunity. However, I still love seeing what others have done. How did I miss this?
And how did they get this tree to do this?
Did your friend ever get rid of it? Was there a special procedure? That is one long tube of clotted blood! Are they ok now? o.O
Cancer treatment–>tamoxifen–>blood clots–> blood thinners–> possible bleeding in the stomach–> ? Maybe I should have gone the chemotherapy route after all. ::
I ordered six frames for my 12x16" paintings yesterday, walnut with a gold filet. And tomorrow I will be ordering six more in black/gold. 12 frames costing me over $800.00 US. Good thing there is free shipping. lol
Mostly. She still has a 2 inch clot in her groin. It causes her pain. The only solution is a stent and that brings its own complications with it so she just lives with it.
The price of frames is ridiculous. I never have understood it. I purchased frame-making equipment a number of years ago. Never did much with it because of the price of trims and lumber. The only way to make any profit from it is to router and mitre your own trims which requires a lot of work and a good place to set up. I could do it but just have not pursued it…I get lazier with each passing year,
Well if you see her thank her for me. I don’t know how she got rid of most of that clot, but it gives me hope that I won’t immediately die of it. lol
I’m just about to put the finishing touch (I hope) on that blasted abstract I’ve been fighting with for weeks now. Below are some of process photos taken as the piece developed. The camera sucks.
I have ordered some black frames in this same style with the same gold filet, and I will be moving this piece into one of those. I believe the stark black/gold will suit the brighter colours better.
I surely know that feeling. If not for that, I’m sure you could have been an amazing architect.
I like! It is fascinating to see the evolution. Black should make it ‘pop’ (been watching too many decorating shows)
Very nice. Truly.
I think I shall bid on it when it comes to auction.
Auctioneer: “The bidding shall start at 1.2million”
Me: sadly lowers hand
Huh… So it started out as some kind of “planet in a nebula”-thing and ended up as “alien landscape” thing? That’s quite a process. I know very much zero about painting (handing me colors and a brush is a recipe for having to replace the tapestry of the room…), so this is actually pretty interesting to watch. I had no idea you could paint over things so much…
Oh, no!! I recognise that photo! The bastages! Grr!
Have you posted the image other than here?
What recourse do you have?
That made me laugh out loud! Thank you! I have not been in high spirits lately.
That painting by size from my price list which is pre-covid inflation, would sell for $1152 USD, unframed. The frames for that size cost me about $50. each, and the collector pays the shipping/insurance.
So you may want to keep that hand down. ::
And thanks for the lovely compliment! ::hearrt::
Not only that, but this painting started out as a previous painting that I put aside years ago because I hated it. I gessoed over it to start this painting.
Acrylics dry super fast so it is easiest medium for working in layers in layers. The fast drying time can be a liability though when you want to soften an edge and you find it has already dried. Then you have to repaint it.
Oils are a different creature altogether. Some of the newer alkyd oils stay wet for only a few days to a week. But traditional oils can take months to a year or more to dry. That has advantages, too, though. very easy to scrape down an area that isn’t working and repaint it.
That is why the floor in my Studio is linoleum and the walls are covered with gessoed canvas.
Thank you! I still am not completely happy with it. But I do hope that you are right about the black frame. “Pop” is what I’m hoping for.
Oh no. They did not use it. Gallery opens my pics on my device and is trying to sell me a deal on my pic as a canvas. It is not a bad idea but, who am I ordering from and what quality am I getting? It is just odd and the prices seem steep. My sister in law does photo transfers onto small canvases and they look really nice. But I have no idea who this is with.
But, speaking of pics being taken,… many years ago, when my youngest brother was a toddler , I snapped a pic of him in a striped shirt and a diaper, playing with a water hose at my grandparent’s home. When we got home, we did what we all did back then, took the film to a store to get it developed. A few years later, we got more film developed. Remember your pics came in a paper envelope. That envelope had pics on the outside of it…and guess what was on it? Yep. The pic I took of my brother. I remember thinking, how did they get that pic? And no one asked permission. But what could you do? It wasn’t as big a deal back then.
Thanks for clarifying that! Had me worried for a while, there.
The abstract landscape in the new black frame/gold filet:
I’m still not completely happy with it. :`(
I have been playing/experimenting with the Caran d’Ache watercolour pigment sticks in my sketchbooks. Here are a few pieces made mostly in the Grumbacher 5.5x8.5" mixed media sketchbooks during our evening art and story sessions:
Mal calls the first one “The Confetti Tree”. It had and may still have particle effects I can no longer see.
I can’t tell you the pigments I used because the typeface is to blurry on the sticks.
In acrylics, I am working on a textured 12x16" panel and am experimenting with ways to deal with the hard edges in it (as with that abstract landscape above) that my eyes simply do not see anymore. Every edge looks soft and blended to my eyes.
My experiment is to mix a transitional colour or colours that can be laid down along the edge I need to soften (using my phone to show me where those edges are). I’ve tried a test sample and I “think” it is working. Mal says it looks good and I trust his judgement. Of course it will slow the painting process down even further.
Using our old video camera hooked up to the Studio computer and monitor might work better.
Here’s hoping everyone is happily creating one way or another.
Love the painting in the frame! So vibrant and full of movement.
I love seeing the sketches and the start of the process. It is something I should do more of. And I love the confetti tree. I would buy it as is.
Lately, I have an urge to get back into my 3-D pop-up cards. Not sure I have shown any of them here. Basically, a lot of cutting and glueing like 3rd grade art. but so much fun! I collect tons of papers for them. I think it’s really an excuse to buy pretty paper.
Aaannd apparently I have no pics of my cards which is very strange. I always take a pic of things I do. Hmmm…guess I will just have to make some more. Yippeeee! More paper!
Thank you! <3
Personaly I’m still not happy with it for some reason, even though our guests this past weekend loved it. Some artists are never satisfied. lol
If you are serious, DM me. I would sell it to you for fifty USD. If not no harm done. I’m glad you like it so much.
How convenient! I can’t wait to see what you come up with! I admire how you are so skilled in so many creative ways.
Sign it big and mark it sold!
Thanks for the reminder to sign it! I sometimes forget.
I will never get anything done now. I have discovered Diamond Dots
It is basically paint by number with plastic dots
My eyes boggle at the thought! lol
I do hope you enjoy yourself with these. Looks like a kind of 3-D pixel art.
