yep. I find myself just standing and looking and forgetting what I came for. Can’t wait for the expedition which will take us on a tour of the new stuff.

Ohh good.
So it’s not just me

I took an Archaeological dig mission from the space station and it sent me planet hopping for each of its guidance steps.

A small purple system just off the upper half of the Starchain.

The floating islands also had floating islands

Clever photo and punny caption. Ah, my day is complete!

Multiple suns were dimly reflected before Worlds-1, but the bright specular highlights were rendered based on the lighting direction (which separates from the main sun during dusk-dawn). Worlds-2 finally fixed the highlights to track the actual main sun position, but the additional sun reflections have been missing since Worlds-1.

I took a similar picture

I’ve been wondering for a while now but afraid to ask out loud in case it makes them go away…

Is the permanent double rainbow a bug or a feature of purple systems? I haven’t been outside of one in a week to check but since the update dropped it’s been nothing but double rainbows.

Took a quest to find a missing person in a purple system and let the game decide again what planets I’ll be visiting while in the area.

It sent me here…

I could tell the informant was nervous as they made an attempt to look busy on approach. I don’t even think they realised there’s no keyboard there…

They demanded a gravatino ball for the information and sent me the coordinates for a starships distress beacon, seems our little runaway got into a spot of bother.

They seemed genuinely relieved to have rescue and a little bit crest fallen their big adventure came to an end so soon. I’m still not sure what they were running from but I got the impression they were in no danger in going back.

I forgot to take a photo but it was a little eloping gek.

I think these are actually planets and their atmosphere. At least, that is what it was on the planets I have seen them on.

I have a rotating wallpaper folder that’s just all no mans sky photos and pretty sure more than half of em at this rate are photos you guys have posted.

The other half are Sean’s reposts.

Worlds Part 1 mentioned night time darkness can vary on planets. I came across two last night that proved to be particularly dark, I actually had to whack the brightness and exposure up after just to make out anything in the pics I took (HDR on console certainly helped during gameplay).

Look out behind me? Like I’m gonna fall for that one…

Met some friendly Autophage on a ruin littered ice Giant, they seem more at home under the light of a purple star

This sandy titan was full of piles of severed ears :neutral_face:

Another ice giant, it turned a beautiful monotone shade of blue at night

Misc giants

Trying to find a lush giant to start a new settlement on, I thought this one might do…

…but the sentinels would not leave me alone

I have since found two prime candidates, a rainy giant and a bountiful giant, one has jungles and both have friendly sentinels. Forgot to send pics of them through PS app :pensive:

One settlement is on its very own large island surrounded by large ocean space visible from any point in space (cloud coverage and correct side of Titan permitting), so I think that’s the settlement I’ll go for, it’s on the coast of the island which has it’s own large mountain at the centre.

I’m going to shop around the ETARC Starchain for a few more locations for my lush giant settlement just in case, but I don’t think I’ll find better than that.

I’ll make sure to share the lush giants from my short list that don’t make the cut :ok_hand:

No wait, come back, HELP!

Looks like a tunnel/canal project was taking place here

In love with the new stony gravelly irradiated ground texture.

Rare seeing one of these without the two prefabs

Expedition 17 was fun but I’m excited to get back to exploring more purple systems in my primary save. Here’s some snaps from the vacation at Titan

This trade post was between two winding river formations, was hard to get a good photo of it

A new adventure

So, after Worlds II dropped I started a new playthrough on hardest survival difficulty without permadeath - don’t want my progress to be deleted just because of most often stupid mistakes.

Setting up

The world I started on was a toxic one I did not spend much time on. I searched for a more hospitable planet and was lucky - in the same solar system I found a planet with no storms, only defensive sentinels and no predators: Veganyun Tau in the Iyanql V system.

Needless to say, I immediately started building a home there. As location I chose a large, flat plateau of significant height, to have a beautiful view on the surrounding ocean and rolling hills. It started as a small, functional outpost featuring refineries and essential machines, in the span of a few days it has been expanded to a sprawling farming complex with enough plants to construct 4 of each craftable trade items. Also three geobays for each a Roamer, a Nomad and a Colossus and three landing platforms for my starship and two visitors.

It goes without saying that such a huge complex hogs a lot of power that can’t be provided by a meager 6 solar panels, so I had to look for an alternative power source. I found it as a an electromagnetic power hotspot of class B, not the best, but not the worst either. The problem - it is over a kilometer away from my base. I wasn’t sure whether building a second base to provide my first one with power would work, so I did the only thing that came to my mind - I built several pylons to increase my range of base enough to reach the hotspot. As aesthetics are the most important thing (to me) in the game, I of course made sure that they resembled actual pylons, connected with two power lines each. It was a pain, but the end result made up for all the effort.

A downside of having a base on a high up platform is the question of how to get your exocraft down to explore the surrounding lands. I simply created a tunnel, plopped down a few roof panels ramps where I could safely drive down to the bottom of the platform. What about getting up? Three superpowered S-Class engine upgrades, no problem. Well, there is a problem - weak brakes. I had to set up a tall obstacle to prevent my exocraft yeeting off the platform into the ocean (which happened more than once).

Ocean exploring is done via Nautilon, for which I created a floating bay. To get down to it, I connected a teleporter to the outpost on top. Easy and convenient.

Now, you might ask yourself: “Didn’t he say that he plays on the hardest difficulty setting? How did he build up such a huge base with the lowest resource yield possible?”
The answer is: Rusted metal. Thousands and thousands of units of rusted metal. I easily spent several tens of thousands of units of ferrite dust to build it. So: Always take the rusted metal with you. Always.

And after each day of building, I can relax in the evening / night on my balcony, enjoying a drink during a mild, pleasant night at 22.6 °C / 71.6 °F.
A relatively cool night after quite hot daytime temperatures of 38.0 °C / 100.4 °F.

The adventure continues

Now that I’ve set up a base capable of making a lot of money, my foundation is secured for continuing my adventure - in the Eissentam Galaxy.

Edit: I corrected the sentence where I said that I didn’t want to create a second base to provide the first one with power - I wasn’t even sure whether this would work in the first place. Apparently it doesn’t. Sorry for the confusion.
