And as a reminder, bokeh differs from a blurry photo, despite its Japanese roots.
“Bokeh is derived from a Japanese word meaning “blurred” or “hazy,” and it’s used to describe the character of the out-of-focus areas in a photographic image.
The word became popular because it helped photographers to define [a deliberately] out of focus area versus a blurry area.” [photographer Brett from Photzy.com]
I snapped this one in RL with a cheap digital camera I have had for years. Lots of moss and shrooms in my yard. Just can’t seem to quite get it right in NMS. It is difficult for me.
Lest we should get too far off topic, here is just a regular pic from the weekend mission. Never seen foliage so dense. It was so difficult to get through but a very nice surprise.
Moon of a ringed planet.
Barren moon; a study in browns of no particular merit. But I need to find a sulphurine gas cloud, so here I am, grinding away, playing the game. But sometimes you just get smacked in the face. I landed just to take this picture.
Couple shots from my new permadeath play.
I just landed, thinking that I was being particularly careful since my last permadeath play went pretty deep and ended in gut wrenching fashion when I casually hopped out on some no account frozen planet that I was just landing on to claim for no good reason whatever and I got one hitter quittered by at least two predators.
No animals here, but I could hear John Madden say "he couldn’t hit the water if he fell out of a boat."
Then there’s this rock. I dunno if this is new development from a recent update or I have just lead countless sheltered lives in NMS, but I don’t remember ever seeing a core like that in one of these.
That’s just origins reminding you that it was one of the best updates ever…
I decided it was finally time to begin a Permadeath game. So I began
and then I began again,
It’s lonely out here
and then I found this
and this
and that attracted this
and that got the attention of this
and now I am here
To be continued…I hope.
i love the trips down memory lane. Cant for the life of me remember what most these were for now, but i collected loads of random, pointless stuff before next which all got turned to other pointless stuff after the update…
now cadmium, indium and emeril
and nanites were an item you had to store.
What is Memorex?
If I understand correctly, the question posed by @temp is used today when companies hype their new, yet to be seen, tech. Is it really that good or is it hype? NMS faced a similar day of reckoning in the beginning but have since proven, it’s real. Take-your-breath-away moments are now a common occurrence in the game.
In the early days of recording tape there was definitely a quality gap. People with a good ear would have to tell you the specifics, but they could clearly tell the difference between “real” audio and a recording. Memorex was a brand name, and at some point they adopted “is it live, or is it Memorex?” as their advertising slogan. FWIW I don’t think they were ever considered a very good brand.
Yes! That was the commercial that came to mind. Still one of my all-time faves.
Somehow, Permadeath makes this much more frightening.
Derelict Freighters now have more reflective water…or whatever that is…
I finally caught one of these guys directing the ships as they come in.
Not what you want to see in Permadeath
This planet has Deadly pressure variations. Whatever that means
Maybe it gets really depressing there?
