I love this too. I can scan and mine without getting out.
Now, if only the critters would get out of the way when I use my horn….

Now if only HG would option the blueish overlay the scanner has.
I once had a glitch where only the HUD occured & not the overlay & now I’ve experienced it I want it as an option in the settings.
I don’t mind the redish overlay so much on the survey scans, but on a walk around & admire the world annalysis scan, I want to see it in full colour…or at least have it as an option. The blue tint messes with my old eyes.
It also makes it difficult in caves to see anything at all
I would very much like to be able to filter the scans. To be able to choose from a list which items appear, both in scans and on the compass display. At the moment it’s just a confusion of information, most of which is irrelevan to anything I’m doing. All too often items overlap each other, so you can’t see the thing you’re looking for, even though you’re staring straight at it. I’d also like to be able to filter out other POIs that appear, even if I haven’t scanned for them - other players’ base markers spring to mind.
Ohhhhh, I’m stupid, “running gear” is just the word for “wheels or spiderlegs” in the UI…

LMAO… Yep. If only! And have them bleat or growl at you as they scurry out of your path.
I saw a meme, “Who would win? Spidertruck or tiny blue triangle?”
It’s true, the mechanical legs stop dead at every piece of dihydrogen… I still like them though. ![]()
Latest experimental patch fixes it so hang on a bit
That was fun.
I do have an observation about expeditions though…something that has sort of nagged at me that I never could put my finger on until this gave me the perfect example.
I got hold of the mag gun, and immediately I wanted to grab a sentinel and punt them. It was so cool I even disregarded my ‘rule’ about staying out of expedition threads until I finished the expedition. I liked it so much I just had to comment.
I understand that part of the purpose of the expedition is to show players the cool new things, and not everyone thinks like me, so of course…prompt people that they can punt a sentinel. The problem is…thirty-two times? That has totally taken the shine off of the most pure fun quick thing to do in the entire expansion.
Yeah. Same thought here. 16 and 16 is 32. Couldn’t it have just been 16 times?
Admitedly I just grabbed one if the little triangular sentinels & ran off, bouncing him like a yoyo the whole time.
32 popped up pretty quick.
For any still trying to find enough industrial waste to unlock everything, don’t overlook these small canisters at the waste dumps. They contain something toxic.
Finally. Everything is unlocked.
During the expedition, my scanner would only point me to one scrap pile, and one recycling facility. I know they were the same, because I placed a save point at one, and a beacon at the other. Through all the milestones, the game just redirected me to the same two destinations. I sduppose it worked, after a fashion.
Towards the end of the expedition, when I got access to my ship, I tried flying half a planet away, summoning my colossus, and scanning from there. It still directed me to the same two destinations.
Now I have finished the expedition, and moved to an entirely different planet. The scanner still directs me to one waste heap, and no other, and one recycling facility, and no other. It doesn’t make any difference how many times I scan, or where I am when I do it.
Weird. I was limited to 2 or 3 scrap heaps and I found another recycle center while driving around so I marked it with a beacon. It wasn’t practical to return to the one the game directed me to.
Back in the normal game, I find the places as I drive while the scanner has a tendency to send me to one further away. I believe the scanner needs some tuning
Each time I find a disposal center, I bring in my ship to mark it then I begin to explore and search for a nearby waste heap. The scanner usually finds one within 5 minutes distance. The disposal centers it doesn’t seem so good at finding
Hoping this is fixed with the patch, it mentions better POI scanning from exocraft. Have you tried since fhe patch hit PC yesterday or does it still suck?
I found the only way to fix it is after moving far away, save and reboot, and it should scan a nearer place.
The way around this on the exedition was they set the RV points to different waste heaps so it could point you to more than one. But it was always the same delivery destination from the start.
Using the save reload trick to get it to scan a new POI (move about 15 minutes drive away, save and reboot game), i was able to map four waste heaps around a delivery zone in my legacy save.
I had a fun one one a world with horrible terrain recently. Was 17 minutes, as the crowlossus flies, from the waste heap to disposal; took me an hour of very slow and careful driving.
I landed on a cold planet by one processing center, after visiting a waste dump I decided to see if the game detected another processing plant that was closer. Well, it did but when I got there, it was on top of a tall mountain…. No wonder the nearby area was covered in trash. Who’d make that trip? XD
I ended up going back to the one I landed my ship at. Definately some hit and miss.
Try to use colour-coded save beacons to mark the waste heaps & recycle depots & then check to see what’s nearby as well. There are sometimes mutiple sites only a few minutes apart.
I generally try to get a full load of ‘special’ which means a weaving longish trip is needed to get a full load. Then afterwards I do an overloaded run picking up metal along the way (often from piles i encountered earlier).
Had some good luck with ‘double’ piles recently.
My current haunt is dissonent planet with wild gravity storms. Punting anything during a storm seriously sends it. Funny but not great if you are at the depot trying to feed the machines because the aim changes not just the trajectory.
Gravity storm equals early lunch break ![]()
Dissonant gravity pockets with the grav gun sounds fun. Still on the lookout for a dead planet with low grav and waste management facilities to test the gun and cargo out in it.
My next objective is to find a ruin with a loose golden sphere near a recycle zone to see if you can recycle them or get anything for it.
I’ve tried bringing some sentinel barrels home for fun or seeing how many I can gather, but they rarely survive the physics party in the back.
Believe it or not, I have actually downgraded the engine upgrades of my Colossus to A class. With S class engine upgrades, fuel efficiency is improved as well as top speed. I wanted to improve fuel efficiency without the speed increase. If you go fast over a ridge, your scrap can spill out. With A class upgrades, sometimes you can get both or only one of them. So you may have to buy an A class upgrade 5 or 6 times to end up with 3 upgrades that only improved fuel efficiency. I thought about dismantling the exocraft boost entirely to prevent temptation from using it, but it is useful when you are not carrying any scrap.
I tried bringing a sphere from a ruin to the waste facility.
You cant put it in the truck bed. It just sinks through under to the wheels and rocks or flips your colossus.
The nearest facility was 13 minutes walk so I decided to go on foot with it.
When i was within 600 u of the facility, the gold sphere despawned from the gravity guns grasp.
I tried a different ruin, this had a closer facility.
Only 3 minutes walk.
Same thing happened, despawned 600 u from the facility.
Guess they dont want us bringing those near the waste facility
It also does not fit in the Furnace Customization
