So…
I never thought I’d see this happen but, HG plans to bring NMS to both Mac and iPad later this year.

You’ll need to scroll down a bit to the gaming section for this.

What? Are you serious? "No Man’s Sky from Hello Games, which is coming to both Mac and iPad later this year. "

Time for another “For real, no joke” thread :stuck_out_tongue:

Why would anyone think this was a joke? Since HG has cut themselves off from all the “milk the current users” revenue streams they HAVE TO expand into every port they can in order to produce new users and revenue.

(also it actually is a way to milk revenues from the existing users, since I for one will certainly purchase an additional copy for my PlayStation VR at some point, and I guess if I had an iPad I might be tempted to get another)

We have to fund their next “impossible even if we had a thousand people working on it” project.

I heard they were piling up rocks just outside Cairo. Perhaps that’s something to do with it.

It’s a natural progression. The newest IPads do not have to hide from the switch when it comes to performance. Quite the contrary. So if you can get it to run on a switch, you can get it to run on an IPad. In theory. The problem is that IOs doesn’t have native Vulcan support. So they’re either running molten, which costs performance (but again, compared to the switch, there’s plenty of that to go around), or they actually wrote a native interface.

Controls are more of an issue… Considering how well they handled VR, there will be some expectations for that port in this regard.

Sean/HG has more chutzpah than… than… uh… [insert analogy here]! I just admire them so much for the way they just keep going!

I have an iPad (actually two!) But too old. NMS won’t run on them, even if I could actually see it on there. Come to think of it, my Mac Pro is probably too old to run t now.

Got a glimpse of this in my Inbox today – Apple ad images for Mac Ventura included…

Well thats super interesting… Looks like a biome swap of the planet they used in the trailer/ gameplay footage here: https://www.apple.com/newsroom/videos/macos-ventura-gaming/large_2x.mp4

Originally I just thought they used clips from the expeditions trailer. Someone suggested that comparing with that trailer, the planets look a lot more saturated. I need to do a side-by-side analysis now :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes. I have seen some talking about the biomes and the colors. Something is definitely up.

Well their latest macs are pretty damn fast, not sure the built in GPU is up to it.

M1 cpu’s have some compute wotsits built in, so looks like, maybe, they are running at low res and upscaling. Maybe only 30fps. Hopefully they will release it on steam so I can run it on my work mac. Might slow compile times down a bit.

If they can make it work on Nintendo Switch, I guess it’s not too surprising they can make it work on an ipad

It depends a bit on the model obviously, but a McBook pro has so much power it’s not even funny anymore…

Well that would be cheating :stuck_out_tongue:

The MetalFX framework integrates with Metal to upscale a relatively low-resolution image to a higher output resolution in less time than it takes to render directly to the output resolution. Use the GPU time savings to further enhance your app or game’s experience. For example, add more effects or scene details.

Oh no, it is cheating! :astonished:

I wonder whether they’ll mark Apple players like they mark console and PC players? Are Switch etc. also marked with an icon? Then we could meet on a planet from different platforms and different continents and we’d be all
“Duuude!” — “Dude!” — “That’s so deep” - “Mac player’s still cheating though…” — “Hey it’s not my fault!” — “Silence!” — “Duuuude”
