News From The Void

The false promise of tarrifs is that it will bring jobs “home.” Yet, in doing so, the increased labor cost drives up the cost of goods and services, even without tarrifs. Then adding a deliberate refusing in immigrant labor drives up costs even more.

This isn’t logical or prudent. It’s all about power and revenge.

That looks more like an eldritch incursion from another dimension than a storm… What the hell even is this?

If you expand the picture, and look closely, there’s a naked Arnold
Schwarzenegger crouching in there.

Good :sweat_droplets: gurggle morning… :ocean: my rain gurggle gauge gurggle :ocean: :ocean: ran over gurggle at 5 inches… :woman_rowing_boat:

Yeah the storm encountered extremely dry air. Remember, I was on fire around here just a week ago. The whole thing stalled out right on I30 corridor. My alert radio had a flash flood warning every couple of hours. Rivers and tributaries are bursting at the seams and there is another round of pouring rain inbound
I have not seen a single car down my road this morning. It floods on both sides of me and has washed out on both sides once before. I may be trapped.

For those who want to experience life in the South, this is a really good taste. Watch the whole thing

Wow. I’ve never actually watched one of these videos before. I love the cute little window wipers they have for the camera. I hate everything else about the tornado.

Sounds like you’ll need to go kayaking for supplies, hope the floods subside soon

Well it’s sunny here, with blue skies. It’s the Grand National today - one of the biggest horse races in the World, which takes place at Aintree, about three miles away. The whole area has looked like a fashion show for days. The main race doesn’t start for another hour, but there are already light planes and helicopters buzzing over my house.

Thunder has already started for the day. Expecting 2" of rain per hour and it will rain most of the day.
My yard feels like it is floating on a river and is no longer solid ground

If it makes you feel any better, my home region & family are on the tail end of much of the same.
Cyclonic winds, over a foot of rain in places, worst flooding in 50 years, massive livestock losses & so many people having their homes wrecked again while still getting over the last cataclysmic weather event. It’s hard to endure.
I’m up on a ridge so flood safe but access was cut unless I took the 4wd & negotiated floodwaters… which I generally avoid doing. Preparation is key followed by patience while we wait it out.
Climate change is making all the natural events much more severe…& its got decades of getting worse to come, probably centuries :eyes:
I’m dealing with roof leaks & on a long waiting list for a replacement roof after repeated hailstorms mashed my area. Leaves were stripped off the trees to the point it was as thick as mulch on the ground.
Yesterday, was my first day in weeks that I saw sunshine. I did my best to try & mow around the homestead yard area as it has become a haven for snakes & I have small dogs.
Going to finish using a brushcutter because its too thick & boggy for the mower.
Sandflies, mosquitos & bitey things are awful at the moment & the humidity is a killer.
I was trying to work on a motorcycle in my shed in the afternoon & I threw a tantrum & scuttled out because I was being swarmed & eaten alive.

Stay safe everyone.

I saw huge waves hitting Sydney. Crazy stuff! We should have sun all next week but of course, the rivers will continue to rise.
My son took a short drive around because he had things he had to check on. Several businesses are blown apart. Homes surrounded by deep water, power outages. This has caused damage all across the state and other states…so ready for this constant thunder to stop.
Try to stay dry! Hope you have lots of buckets for those leaks. :bucket: Thanks for reminding me…mosquitoes… :unamused:

I’m generally easy going but I hate mosquitoes… not so much for the in-the-ear midnight attack or itchy bites but for the diseases.
I had Ross River Fever many years ago & it levelled me. Add to that Malaria, Denghi Fever & all the others & I become a fly-screen draped paranoid recluse
Mosquito coils are burning 24-7 & my first stop going outside is insect repellant.

A serious question about mosquitoes and the places where they live:

There’s billions of them. How can they exist? What do they live on when they can’t get people?

I wondered the same thing about leaches & ticks.

Without Google-cheating, my guess is they are very energy efficient & have relatively short lifespans.
… That or they teleport in from a Hell planet to feed on the meatbag species.

My money is on the Hell planet. Maybe hang some warding symbols around the place too just to be sure.

Also, plot twist. We are the hell planet.

Stay safe everyone, I’ll make sure to feel relatively guilty any time I complain about our moderate drizzle weather going forward

That provided a laugh that I desperately needed. Thanx.

To remind people there’s still things outside of Trump and Tornadoes, a little video of what was going on here yesterday. Some delicious local accents in this clip.

The rain has finally stopped. Now flood warnings as the rivers rise. The sun will be out tomorrow by about 10 am and I plan on being out for most of the day. I need to feel the sun on my skin. :sun_with_face:

Glad to hear you survived. I was starting to worry that your only future communication would be a stream of bubbles.
