Nanite Earnings via Fishing and Releasing

This is all in “normal” difficulty mode. Bait used was bionic lure and fishing pole was the Lost Angler’s Rig. I kept track of everything with an Excel spreadsheet. Fish can only be released one at a time. The planet was toxic in a yellow star system.

I caught and released a total of 344 fish. I feel this is a good sample size. I earned 17636 nanites.

Number of Fish Caught
Class S Fish - 7 or 2.03%
Class A Fish - 51 or or 14.83%
Class B Fish - 98 or 28.49%
Class C Fish - 188 or 54.65%
Total - 344

This means for every 100 fish you catch; 2 will be S class, 15 will be A class, 28 will be B class, and 55 will be C class.

Nanite Range for releasing 7 S Class fish - 160 to 198
Nanites earned from releasing 7 S Class fish - 1195

Nanite Range for releasing 51 A Class fish - 100 to 120
Nanites earned from releasing 51 A Class fish - 5554

Nanite Range for releasing 98 B Class fish - 50 to 90
Nanites earned from releasing 98 B Class fish - 6602

Nanite Range for releasing 188 C Class fish - 15 to 30
Nanites earned from releasing 188 C Class fish - 4285

Here are the final averages:
Releasing an S Class fish will give you 171 nanites/fish.
Releasing an A Class fish will give you 109 nanites/fish.
Releasing a B Class fish will give you 67 nanites/fish.
Releasing a C Class fish will give you 23 nanites/fish.

S Class fish made up 2.03% of the total and contributed 6.78% to nanite earnings.
A Class fish made up 14.83% of the total and contributed 31.49% to nanite earnings.
B Class fish made up 28.49% of the total and contributed 37.43% to nanite earnings.
C Class fish made up 54.65% of the total and contributed 24.30% to nanite earnings.

Conclusion: There are better ways to gain nanites. But if you enjoy fishing, this is fairly decent. The best fish to release is Class A or B, their percent contributions to nanite earnings were the highest. Catching S Class fish doesn’t happen often enough for their nanite contribution to be significant. I would save C Class fish strictly for cooking ingredients, releasing them for nanites is not worth the button press.

Interesting analysis, and nicely done. This seems to fit in quite closely with the quality distribution / frequency of other items - ships, multitools, etc.
